The X-rays had been transmitted via satellite yesterday afternoon from Malaguay and doctors had been reviewing them. Last night she and Craig had sat with those doctors to discuss the procedures they would take. The cheekbone fracture beneath her left eye wasn’t bad but hematomas around the eye were creating pressure that must be relieved before anything else. After that, they’d take MRIs to determine what steps needed to be taken. Until then, all they could do was wait.

Maggie paced in front of the stairway. The cup of coffee in her hand had long been forgotten and was cold. She watched the tarmac and the dozens of military personnel that had assembled there and were milling around waiting.
