"Count yourself lucky Linda that he did not press charges. What were you even thinking?"
"I really don't want to deal with this this early in the morning. I explained everything 100 times last night but you don't want to listen. Your prayers were answered, no one called to ask for ransome money, okay? I am going to take a jog."
I said walking out on them. I knew I would pay dearly for this but they really needed to spare me some crap.
"Linda, come back here. We are not done talking..." I heard his heavy voice fading in the distance.
***
What was I doing here? What was I going to say? How would his parents react? I should really go and leave things as they are. But I need to apologise for all the trouble I caused.
I composed myself and pressed the alarm a bit too long.
Suddenly, a dog started barking. I backed away. I had a very great fear for dogs.
" Calm down Ruby! Sit! Am coming whoever is at the gate."
I heard a feminine voice shout. I turned to ran away.
"Hey you! Who are you and what do you want?"
I turned back to look at the girl.
***
She was a blonde, so unlike Max. Her hair was held up in a messy bun and I could see the mint green, large eyes.
She was short so as I guessed she was around nine.
Furthermore, she wore a dark leather mini - skirt with a hot pink blouse that had the picture of one direction printed on it.
I wondered whether she was not feeling cold. I for one was freezing in the morning breeze yet I had a light cardigan on.
***
"Don't be rude princess. Who is there?"
"I don't know her and I don't care," she bellowed and ran back into the compound.
I stood there amazed. What was her problem?
"Sorry madam."
***
A well - dressed man said as he appeared at the gate. He appeared to be in his late thirties and he was tall, maybe as tall or taller than my dad. And my dad is tall!
He had rich, thick, sleek dark hair that really resembled Max's but his was not bearing as much gel.
He had a regular body, not well-built but not skinny nor plump.
I really felt like I knew him from somewhere.
***
"Morning sir. Nice to meet you. I am here to see Max." I said rather tensed.
"Morning. Am Finn by the way. So how do you know Max?"
"Am really sorry. My name is Linda, the girl who kinda misled Max yesterday."
" Oh it's you. Max didn't mention your name. He is currently grounded. Do you have any business with him?"
" I felt so guilty about what I did so I dropped by to apologise if that is okay with you."
" It's okay. Max was the stupid one to just follow you and try to be a hero. I know he can be annoying sometimes."
He wore a grin on his face. I felt relaxed. He really was cool unlike Max.
"Anyway, am heading out. You can go in. Sophie will show you to his room. By the way, am really sorry for how she acted earlier. She still has issues with the moving."
" It is okay. I feel like I recognize you from somewhere though. It's weird since you are new here."
I looked at him really keenly. I could swear that I had seen him from somewhere before.
"Maybe on TV. I am a journalist. I have been on several interviews. Am Finn Ravier."
Yes! Ravier. I recognized the name. He was actually my idol. He was a travelling journalist who had covered famous events all over the world. I really loved his reports and looked forward to each one. I recalled reading that he was coming to Kenya on vacation with his family. I wonder why he chose to come to Kenya though. He literally could go anywhere else in the world. I secretly wanted to be a journalist like him.
"It's you! You are my idol. I love your stories." I almost screamed. I was really overjoyed at having met him finally. It was like fate.
"Nice to meet you then. I really have to go. I hope that I will get a chance to talk to you some other time," he said as an Uber pulled up in front of us.
***
"Hi Sophie," I greeted the little girl not knowing the reaction to expect from her.
She had a pair of pink headphones on and was dancing around the room as she organised some stuff on their shelf. It seemed like they were not done settling in.
Seeing that she had not noticed me, I went to face her so that she could see me.
She put the headphones down. I could hear the loud music from them.
"Hi there!"
"Hi! Am sorry about earlier. Just not in my best mood. So who are you and what do you want?"
" Am Linda, your next door neighbor. I was the girl with Max yesterday. Can I go see him?"
"Sure, but wait first, your clothes suggest you were jogging. Do you normally have a jog in the morning?"
" Yeah, am an athlete, kinda. I love to start my day with a good jog. Are you interested?"
" Yes please and since we are not conversant with the place we would be more than glad if we could jog with you every morning," she said a bit excitedly.
" Since you said we, it is you and who?"
"Just my charming brother Max. He too loves starting the day with a refreshing jog and workout."
I knew that she was being sarcastic. Max was not even the slightest bit charming.
"It's okay guys. I would love to," I said trying to hide my joy. This was the most of friends I had had in almost a year.
"Nice. You can go ahead now."
I looked at her.
"Will I magically know his room or something..." I said in a nice tone so as not to sound mean.
" Oh sorry! My bad. Just go up those flight of stairs and it is the second room to the right. He is grounded so technically he is in his room all day."
I laughed. How can you ground someone in a totally new place?
Hey splendid people.
