Chapter 17: Chapter Sixteen
"If you kids killed my fucking girlfriend I swear to God, I will have all of your heads mounted on my wall!" Billy shouted as he sped towards town.
"She's not dead!" Max shouted back. "She's exhausted!"
Lila's eyes fluttered open. Her head was in Max's lap and her feet in Lucas' lap.
"Ouch." Lila mumbled.
"See, she's alive, asshole!" Max yelled.
Billy slammed on breaks, throwing the car in park before turning around. Relief washed over his face as he saw Lila's eyes open.
He exhaled before driving again. Lila sat up, leaning her head on Max's shoulder. "I didn't kill it."
"No, but you hurt it pretty bad. We are going to get supplies to kill it." Max said patting Lila's head.
Lila's reached into the front, pmacing her hand on Billy's shoulder. He placed his free hand ontop of hers, rubbing his thumb against her skin.
They pulled up to the store and the kids got out of the car. Lila attempted to but was too weak. Billy got out of the car, helping her out the backseat before picking her up.
She leaned her head on his shoulder as he walked towards the entrance. Nancy had broken the glass and reached through, unlocking the door.
"Okay, Mike, Lucas, Will. Go get fireworks. Lots of them." Nancy pointed.
"Max, we need to figure out how to repower these girls."
"Food and water?" Max suggested.
"Sugar." Lila mumbled. "I want candy."
Billy looked at Max. "You heard her. Get the candy."
Max scurried away as Billy sat down on the ground against the check-out counter. He held Lila close to him, kissing her forehead.
"I love you." Lila whispered.
"I love you, babydoll." Billy sighed. "We're going to get you better."
Max soon arrived with a bag of Pixi Sticks, Pop Rocks and a bottle of water.
Lila sat up against Billy, ripping open the Pixi Stick and pouring it in her mouth. One after another, Lila had nearly finished the whole bag.
She chugged the waterbottle before sighing. The sugar was only a temporary fix, but she had enough to continue fighting.
"Alright! We got em'!" Mike shouted as he appeared with a arm full of fireworks.
A static voice was heard through the store. Lucas picked up his walkie-talkie before Dustin spoke.
"Let's go." Jonathan said as he and Nancy ran towards the car.
Lila held onto Billy's hand as they ran towards his Camaro. Max and Lucas climbed in the backseat before they sped off towards the mall.
They pulled up almost to the doors before they ran inside, toting the fireworks. Dustin, Erica, Steve and Robin ran towards them.
"We have been trapped underground in a secret Russian operation all day!" Dustin shouted.
"The mindflayer is back!" Mike shouted. "And in flesh form!"
As the group shouted, Hopper, Joyce and a bald man appeared. Lila had never seen him before.
"Hop!" Lila exclaimed as she and Eleven ran towards him.
"What are you two doing?" Hopper sighed in relief as he hugged them.
"The mindflayer is trying to kill Lila!" Eleven cried.
"We closed the gate!" Hopper exclaimed.
"Yeah, well there's another one!" Dustin shouted. "Right below us!"
"What?" Hopper and Joyce said at the same time.
"The russians." Steve explained. "We've been down there all day. There's a key to close the gate."
Hopper looked at Joyce and the bald man. "We gotta go."
"I can help." Lila gulped.
"You're too weak." Billy said as he walked up beside her.
"No." Lila shook her head. "I'm fine."
"No, no one is going to close it but me." Hopper stated. "You kids are to leave. Billy, take them to Joyce's."
"No!" Eleven shouted.
"Yes!" Hopper shouted back. "I love you both very much but you need to go."
Lila nudged Eleven before winking at her. "Okay. We will go."
"Thank you." Hopper sighed. "Now show us how to get underneath."
Dustin and Erica led them towards the door they'd come out of. Hopper blew a kiss to the two girls before disappearing.
"Let's go." Billy said as he grabbed Lila's wrist.
The same thumps were heard from earlier, this time from above. The group looked up towards the glass ceiling. The mindflayer was there, screeching.
"Get upstairs!" Nancy shouted as it fell through the ceiling and onto the ground.
The group took off running. Except Lila. She stood face to face with the monster. Billy glanced behind him, stopping as he saw Lila. And Heather. She was running towards Lila, full on sprinting.
Lila screamed as Heather tackled her to the ground. Lila's head smacked against the floor, leabing her body limp as Heather dragged her towards the monster.
The sound of explosions could be heard from all around. The kids were upstairs launching fireworks towards the monster. It did damage but not enough.
Billy ran towards Lila who was now inches away from the monster. Heather stood there, grinning evily.
"Now, lie still."
The arm reached out, grabbing onto Heather and lifting her in the air. Blood flowed from her torso as her body went limp.
"Lila!" Billy shouted as the arm reached out to strike her. Just in time, Billy grabbed the arm of the monster, pushing it away from Lila.
Lila's eyes fluttered open and she sat up just as the monster latched onto Billy's sides.
"Billy!" She cried out trying to scramble to her feet. She crawled towards him just as the monster dropped him.
The monster then fell to the ground causing the mall to shake. It was over. They'd closed the gate.
Blood streamed from his chest and sides. Lila cried out as he held onto him. He reached up grabbing her hand one last time before his eyes closed.
"I love you!" She shouted as she squeezed his lifeless body.
As the kids rushed from downstairs, Lila's head spun.
"Bring him back!" Max shouted.
"Come on, Lila. Do something!" Eleven exclaimed.
The idea of healing him and bringing him back to life seemed impossible. But she could try.
She squeezed Billy's entire body, shutting her eyes and focusing.
"She's, she's doing it." Max gasped as the blood began disappearing from Billy's chest.
Just as Billy gasped, coughing up blood, Lila's eyes shut.
Darkness surrounded her and she was soon in the never ending void.
