Chapter 28: Trap and Consequences
I slowly crept my way through the basement floor, cautious of any traps that might be there. Slowly I started to explore, but to my surprise I didn't see anything. Most of the area was just boxes of regular items. Finally, I arrived at where the thickest concentration of demonic energy was coming from. I peaked into the door and before I could react a hidden magic trap pulled me into the room, restraining me in the center.
"Who would have though someone with such a paltry amount of strength, like you would have such pure mana. Did you really think that I didn't sense your mark on me? Master is going to love using you as a test subject, who knows maybe he'll finally be successful." The voice echoed from all around me, and I wasn't able to pinpoint it. What I did know though is that, one my mana was sealed, two I couldn't move, and three the formation around me was activating. After he finished talking the formation activated, at this moment I lost consciousness.
'Crap, it was a trap,' I thought to myself, berating myself for my naivety. 'I was naive to think that people wouldn't be able to notice my mark. Now I can't escape,' Thinking up to here I put my mind into overdrive, trying to find a way out. The first thing I did was open the system, but was met by two unfortunate messages and an additional new quest.
*Captive status applied: When you are under captive status you are unable to gain additional strength, even if you level. Points cannot be spent, and you are unable to use the messaging function.
*New Mission: Expose the Perpetrator
-You discovered that the one behind the Demon Core incident was the biggest auction in the capital. Find a way to expose them and participate in their destruction.
-Reward: 5 Ingenuity points, 2500 points and bloodline upgrade.
*New Mission: Escape the Lab
-You have been captured, from what you heard you will be experimented on. Most people have weak bloodlines and would die, but due to your potent bloodline you will survive. Find an opportunity to survive and escape the lab and you'll be rewarded.
-Reward: Second Ingenuity Ability Slot, 2 Ingenuity Points, 1000 Points.
'Well ****, I should have looked at that first quest right when it came up. I wouldn't be in this situation if I did.' Thinking this I realize that I should always look at notifications right when they come. Looking around the room I see that I'm in a fairly spacious cell.
Trying to circulate mana through my body, I realize that though I can do it there was no effect. A good thing is that I can still enhance my senses. My guess is that since it's such a small thing it still works. This is good because I may be able to get information and I'm still able to practice my control.
Sitting down on the hard before I sat in a meditative position. Emptying my mind of all thoughts I solely focused on practicing my control over my mana, being as intricate with it as possible. Then remembering the award from the first quest the bloodline upgrade I activated my elements to see if I could trace them to its origin. Unfortunately, it seemed to be much harder than just that and I made no progress. After practicing for a while I activated elemental senses with my hearing to see if I could find out something.
Outside my expectations instead of hearing nothing, I heard the sounds of light crying from the cell next to mine. Not sure what to make of it, I decided to call out to the girl crying in the cell next to me. "Hey, are you okay?"
