“Are you going to show me some of the sights of the city or not?” Rachel asked Arthur.
It had taken them over four hours to get to the city. He realized that he had not meant to, but he had done it again. He had hurt her feelings. He believed he was genuinely starting to feel for this young woman, however. If only he could stifle his rudeness and abrupt manner; if only he could feel that letting this beautiful woman into his life would benefit, not hurt him; if only he could figure out why he directed his anger towards her.
He did not feel like he could be the best possible tour guide, but he did love the city; the more places they went, the more comfortable he felt. The more comfortable he felt, the more even tempered he remained. This was the friend zone and he was able to navigate these waters better than the more real and romantic unchartered territory with Rachel.
