I was walking back from university. My headphones blasting music into my ears, isolating me from the rest of the world. I was alone in the park that was the shortcut to my place, the sun had already set. It was always dark when I went back home after my extra classes, it must've been 6:30. I checked my watch and sighed. My eyes returned to the path in front of me and then I bumped into something. I fell to the floor and then realized what had happened. There was nothing when I looked up, there was nothing around me, I should've been alone. I heard something growl. My eyes darted around the park, aside from the dim light of the few park lights, nothing caught my attention. The growl came again, I turned off my music and stood up. My heart was pounding, chills run down my back. My hand felt something unseen in front of me as I reached out. The growl again. I took my hand away and slowly began to back off.
"Am I going crazy?" I asked out loud. The growl turned into a shriek and a figure appeared in front of me. 'I am definitely going crazy.' It was a creature, taller than I was, with four visible teeth, two going up from the bottom jaw bone, two going down from the top one. It had four long, colorful feathers on its head that stood out from its dark green hair. It wore clothes made from plants. Its large, purple, beady eyes stared at me. I noticed a tail wagging behind it. It lowered its head and tilted it, questioning what I was.
"What are you?" It tilted its head to the other side, "Are you one of those things that the government has been talking about? Those entities?"
Entities were creatures that the government had warned the country about. They were often rare creatures that, in their words, needed to be reported to be captured and studied.
While I was thinking, the creature had moved around me and was smelling my backpack, it poked it and then I turned around to face it, it jumped back as I did.
"Hungry?" The creature watched me open my bag and pull out a half eaten sandwich, "hungry?" I asked again. The creature sat down like a dog and its tongue hung out, answering my question. I moved forwards and placed my sandwich on the palm of my hand, approaching its face. At that moment, I felt like an idiot, my hand had scars on it, five teeth marks from me as a kid doing this with a dog. It had bitten my hand along with the food. The creature didn't lunge at my hand but instead tilted its head as it looked at me, "it's, um, for you," it tilted its head again. I sighed and took a bite from my sandwich and then held it up again. The creature slowly moved its large hands to the sandwich and then hesitated. I nodded my head and it took it and nearly swallowed it whole, "you must be hungry," it nodded, "wait, you understand me?" it nodded again, "were you just scared?" it nodded once more, "you haven't eaten anything in some time?" it nodded, "well, that's too bad," I sighed, I didn't know what to do, I felt bad for this creature, I didn't want to report it, but I couldn't hide it at my place, "do you sleep here?" it nodded, "are you fine here?" it nodded again, "um, I can bring you food if you want," it seemed happy and let out a little shriek, "I guess that is yes, um, can I call Lady, so I have a name for you?" it nodded, "I have to go home, I'll see you later, and with some more food, okay? Just wait for me to call you, when you hear my voice, and me calling Lady, okay?" it shrieked cheerfully, "you're cute," I pet her head lightly and she wagged her tail.
Time went by, I went to see her everyday, talking to her, feeding her, watching her grow, until one day, at the end of my years in university.
"Lady!" no one responded, no one was around,"Lady!" I called and called but she never came. I sighed, at the edge of tears. 'What happened?' I thought as I walked around the park. Having given up, I went back home. I had a small T.V. in my room. The screen came to life on the news channel as I began to make my dinner, the news anchor spoke: "an Entity found in the middle of the city," I turned to the screen "the government officials confirmed the presence of no other Entity and have moved it to a secure place, as a reminder, if you ever spot a Entity, report it, it is for the safety of our country," I broke down in tears, I felt like I had lost everything, but maybe this was fate. I spoke out loud, "I'll find you, Lady, I will, don't worry, I'll come get you, I'll be with you, I swear, just trust me, once, more..." I wept as the news anchor babbled on.
