Chapter 35: Inter-marriage

"Has this child always been this impressive?"
Uzumaki Mito set down the documents in her hand and leaned toward Uchiha Jiri, softly asking the question.
"Yes! Once he has figured things out, this is the result. Impressive, right?"
Uchiha Jiri chuckled lightly and nodded, a hint of pride in her tone as she subtly showed off.
"Impressive indeed! I'm envious. If Nawaki were even half as smart, I wouldn't have to worry so much!"
Mito shook her head helplessly, then handed two documents to Jiri. "Let's leave them to their discussion. We should finalize the alliance first!"
"I've already signed and sealed it. Just waiting on you!"
"Alright!"
Without hesitation, Jiri signed her name on both copies of the alliance document and stamped her handprint on them. Each of them took a copy, and with that, the agreement was officially sealed.
"Here! This contains the Flying Thunder God Technique, Tobirama's Water Style techniques, and various scrolls on sealing arts. Check them over," Mito said, handing over a stack of scrolls.
Jiri simply waved her hand, sending the items into her dimensional storage space. "No need to check. If something's missing, I'll come back to you later. After all, you can't exactly run away!"
Mito's eyes narrowed slightly as she witnessed Jiri's spatial technique, curiosity and surprise flashing across her face. She chose not to ask further, knowing Jiri wouldn't answer.
After a brief pause, Mito asked, "Have the Uchiha received any information about the situation in the Land of Whirlpools?"
"Oh?"
Jiri raised her brow slightly, a playful smile tugging at her lips. "Of course we have. The Uchiha's information network is quite effective."
"It seems the other four great ninja villages are planning to attack the Land of Whirlpools, aiming to seize its bloodline and sealing techniques in their pursuit of Jinchūriki and power."
"So? Are you seeking our help?"
"Indeed."
Mito didn't deny it and nodded affirmatively.
Jiri responded bluntly, "That's not part of our alliance agreement. An ally of my ally is not automatically my ally."
"If you want our help, there will need to be additional terms."
Although preserving the Uzumaki clan would benefit the Uchiha, nothing comes free.
"That's fair."
Mito wasn't surprised or offended. "Name your terms!"
She understood that the Uzumaki's troubles were separate from the Uchiha-Senju alliance. Unless another formal agreement was reached between the Uchiha and the Uzumaki, their aid couldn't be assumed.
"Hmm..."
Jiri pondered for a moment. "After this event, it'll likely be impossible for the Uzumaki clan to remain in the Land of Whirlpools."
"Otherwise, the four great villages will never stop targeting you."
"When the time comes, I imagine the Uzumaki will have to relocate to Konoha and officially join its ranks, correct?"
"Indeed," Mito confirmed. "I intend to personally see to it. Even if Uzumaki Ashina objects, I will make it happen. I can't constantly shield the Uzumaki from every threat."
To the major ninja villages, including Konoha, the Uzumaki clan was a prime target, a 'feast' too tempting to ignore. Only by joining Konoha could the Uzumaki ensure their survival and secure the best path forward.
This would also benefit the weakened Senju by bolstering their strength with the Uzumaki's alliance, creating a mutually advantageous situation.
"In that case, my terms are these: first, I want a copy of the Uzumaki's sealing techniques that don't involve bloodline secrets. Second, I propose that our three clans—Uchiha, Senju, and Uzumaki—establish a system of intermarriage going forward."
Mito was caught off guard. The first condition was within her expectations, but the second came as a surprise. Even Tsunade, engrossed in her discussion with Kaito, turned her attention to the conversation.
"Why?" Mito asked, puzzled. "As I recall, the Uchiha don't forbid marriage outside the clan, but they don't encourage it either. Why push for intermarriage with the Senju and Uzumaki?"
Was this simply to deepen the alliance between the three clans? Mito was skeptical.
Jiri chuckled knowingly and exchanged a glance with Kaito before continuing. "This touches on a little-known secret about our clans."
"From ancient texts in my clan, I've found evidence suggesting that a thousand years ago, the Uchiha, Senju, and Uzumaki all descended from a single ancestor—none other than the Sage of Six Paths."
Mito and Tsunade were stunned. "What? Are you serious?"
The idea that the Senju and Uchiha, who had warred for a millennium, shared a common ancestor—let alone the Sage of Six Paths—sounded like a legend, or perhaps a joke.
"More or less," Jiri nodded, turning to Tsunade. "Have you ever studied the blood or cells of the Uchiha and Senju?"
Tsunade shook her head. "That's more Orochimaru's area of interest. But I get what you're implying—that their genetic makeup overlaps or complements each other, which could point to a shared ancestry."
"Exactly," Jiri affirmed. "If that's true, doesn't it make sense that combining our clans could result in children with enhanced potential and abilities?"
Mito remained skeptical but intrigued. "And this idea is based on…?"
"In the ancient texts, it's said that the Senju and Uzumaki inherited the Sage's body, while the Uchiha inherited his eyes. Over the centuries, these traits have weakened due to bloodline dilution. But if the three clans intermarried, it might restore some of that lost power."
The notion struck a chord with Mito. If true, this would benefit all three clans. However, she suspected Jiri had deeper motives.
Still, she chose not to question further. Even if Jiri wasn't entirely forthcoming, the potential advantages of intermarriage were enough to warrant consideration. After all, it seemed like a win-win for everyone involved.
