When Susan entered the room, Freya directed a surge of aura energy towards her. The aura pressure was strong enough to crush the will of some S-rank psykers.
Freya was a psyker who was ridiculously talented at core energy control. She was superior in this aspect compared to other prominent psykers such as Chairman Ford, Paul Lancelot and many others.
Therefore, only a few psykers could withstand the pressure of her aura. However, seeing how Susan who was just a youngster and a rookie S-rank psyker maintained her composure despite the overwhelming pressure and even felt comfortable accepting the challenge intrigued her a lot.
Previously, her intentions were just to confirm how strong Susan really was, but now it was a matter of defending her dignity as one of the finest psykers in the State.
Freya replied honestly, "This has nothing to do with challenges, but with my personal curiosity about your talent."
Freya could have denied it if she wanted to, but she didn't want Susan to misunderstand the situation.
"Then have I satisfied your curiosity?" Susan asked with a glare.
"Of course, you did much more than that, but why stop there when it could get a little bit more exciting?"
Suddenly, Freya released another aura burst that was even stronger than the first one. Susan was taken aback by surprise. Her knees buckled as she almost fell to the ground.
It was undeniable that it was indeed a domineering force. Nevertheless, Susan was not willing to back down easily either. She managed to take a couple of steps further.
However, due to the increasing force of the energy, she struggled to take another step until she finally succumbed to the pressure and dropped to her knees.
Freya chuckled,"Impressive child, you are indeed as talented as they described."
The people who could normally endure Freya's aura were psykers with a lot of experience and they also possessed devastating power that could destroy a city.
However, Susan just broke the treadstone that had been set. It was commendable to see that a rookie that recently became an official psyker could withstand her aura to a certain extent, especially when most psykers in the same level as Susan would have fainted.
Susan ignored her and stood back up on her feet with a look of disappointment on her face.
Freya consoled with a broad and victorious smile on her face. "You don't need to be so angry about it, but you should commend yourself for what you just did. There are not many people that could endure my aura to that extent."
"It was splendid indeed, take a seat Susan. Even I must admit that Madam Freya was a little bit rough with you for a moment." Chairman Ford who had been silently observing the altercation between the two ladies beckoned.
"But you didn't try to stop her.... I just wanted to pay my respect to my new boss, so I won't be taking any seat." Susan said.
"I am sorry and I won't make any excuses about that because I was also quite curious. I'm also aware that since today was your arrival then you must have a lot of tasks to complete. However, have something very important to discuss with can't be postponed due certain circumstances."
Susan shifted her attention to Freya that was casually drinking her wine and looked back at Chairman Ford who quickly got the message behind her stare.
"Don't worry, its not secret from her so you can feel comfortable."
Susan nodded before taking a seat." What is the situation you want to talk about?" She asked with impatient tone.
"I've heard about your remarkable accomplishments in New York and it was the very reason we requested the support of you and your team. In just a couple of months you managed to increase the authority of the Psykers Association in New York but I'mafraid that the situation has changed and it would be as easy to do so here."
"Are you still doubting my capabilities?" Susan was totally irritated by the way she was constantly been looked down on.
"That's not what I meant, I'm only saying that the battle field had changed drastically."
"What do you mean?" Susan was now intrigued by what Chairman Ford said.
Chairman Ford explained the entire situation to Susan who patiently listened. While Freya was silently observing Susan's expression, she could see that Susan was genuinely concerned but wasn't convinced.
"I want offer you a position in that is similar to your current official rank in this new division that we're about to establish in order to have your full support. This way you can help the government to grow its strength much more faster." Chairman concluded his explanation hoping that Susan would agree to his condition.
"I am really thankful for this generous opportunity sir, but I humbly refuse to accept this offer." Susan responded frankly.
"What..why would you reject such an opportunity. Incase you're misunderstanding something, every members of this new division will be receiving better exclusive than you're receiving now.
Moreover, you still get the opportunity to serve you country." Chairman Ford said with a hint of shock in his tone however, he tried to hide it.
"I think you're the one getting this all wrong sir, I am not a patriot that is desperate to serve her country. The relationship between the country and is only beneficial one with no strings attached, I'm given the opportunity to hunt beasts and grow stronger by absorbing crystals of stronger beasts while the country authorities skyrockets because I kill a huge amount of beast." Susan revealed.
"So that's why you didn't hesitate to accept the transfer request when you heard that there were stronger beasts here despite our previous attempts to recruit you which you ignored." Freya suddenly interjected into the conversation after the understanding the realization of the matter.
"Exactly, I won't to hesitate to take another transfer if I find another place with stronger beasts to kill. So I'm not interested in exclusives or getting involved with political matters." Susan said straightforwardly while focusing her gaze on Freya.
"Hahahaha.....this is really hilarious. Everyone thought that you were loyal to the government but you were only looking after only yourself." Freya continued to laughed hysterically as she continued speaking, "No wonder you refused the offer of many clans and guild, it's because you knew you would only be hidden as a wild card and you wouldn't be able to achieve your goals.....You truly are a monster and I am liking you more, child."
"I'm not your child, grandma." Susan immediately retorted back as she could no longer stand the way Freya was messing with her.
"I see that we have actually misunderstood you perspective all this while. However, if you should change your mind then I request that you should come to our side." Freya said.
"That won't ever be happening anytime soon" Susan said bluntly and looked at Chairman Ford."I sincerely apologies to you sir and I'll take my leave now." Susan declared and neither Chairman Ford and Freya tried to stop her.
As soon as Susan left the room, Freya said. "Well, that definitely didn't go as we expected."
"Yes, who would have thought that the so-called S-rank rookie called Monster was just a young lady talented enough to endure your aura, but it's a shame that we can't recruit her."
"I agree, we should also be glad she won't be a problem. While she has no greed and no ambition for authority, her quest for power is unfathomable, so others won't be able to approach her easily. Paul Lancelot is my only concern because he won't give up until he has a talent like her by his side."
Despite the fact that Susan turned down their offer, Freya was deeply concerned that Susan would end up embroiled in this political battle.
"Then we just have to keep her as a secret from the clans and guilds." Chairman Ford reasoned.
"You of all people should know that we can't pull that off for a very long time." Freya argued.
Several clans had spies that had infiltrated the Psykers Association, and some have been caught, but many more are still hidden in the organization. Therefore, many information was always stolen from the association and leaked to the clans.
Meanwhile, they were unaware that the moment the secret they were planning to hide had already been leaked.
Patriarch Paul Lancelot was in his car when he received a phone call from one of his spies that was informing him about Susan's arrival.
"Do everything you can to find out what they discussed" Patriarch Paul ordered before hanging up and hurriedly dialing another number.
"Hello sir, everything worked out as you informed me."
"Do you have everything ready?" The voice asked.
"Yes sir, it has all been prepared." Patriarch Paul responded immediately.
"Good, you can start the first phase of the plan." The voice instructed and he hung up the call.
"There is huge chaos coming to California."
