Chapter 1: Introduction

Pink peach, apricot powder and plum white. The spring branches are full of flowers swinging in the wind, and the begonias are blooming freely.

It's February, and the spring flowers are all over the mountains and fields. It's the excitement that has been brewing for a whole season. In the wasteland, a lonely tomb is buried under the spreading spring flowers. There is no monument, but it is not deserted.

A man stood in front of the grave with a horse whip in his hand. He was wearing dark clothes and a silver-white robe. An apricot-red sachet hung quietly on his waist, emitting the fragrance of dried rose flowers. A tall white horse was eating grass not far away. Outside the apricot forest, farther away, a handsome young man led the horse and waiting quietly, occasionally casting an uneasy glance inside.

The man raised his hand as if he wanted to touch something, but then put it down stiffly. A complicated and unspeakable look appeared in his eyes, which was immediately replaced by a strong anger.

"Woman, is death so easy for you?" He smiled, suddenly raised his hand and slapped the lonely grave. For a moment, the flowers swayed and the branches broke, and the yellow flowers fell like butterflies.

The young man saw it from a distance and was so frightened that he ran over in a hurry. However, in this moment, the man had already struck with his palms one after another, causing the soil to fly everywhere and flattening most of the grave.

"Master..." The young man wanted to stop him, but he didn't dare.

The man ignored him and slapped a few more times until he saw the woman's body that had begun to rot inside. There was no coffin, not even a tattered reed mat, just a rag, lying quietly in the dirt, with countless insects and ants crawling away from her body.

The man's hand tightened, and the palm that had already accumulated enough strength could no longer be released.

"What's going on?" He asked, his voice low and unpleasant, looking at the woman's unrecognizable face.

From the young man's perspective, he could see the man's eyes turned red, whether because of anger or something else, and he couldn't help but shudder. Suppressing the chill in his heart, he hurriedly explained: "My Lord, it was Miss Mei... Mei Lin's intention before she passed away. She said..." He glanced at his master carefully, and seeing that he was not impatient, he continued, "She said that instead of being confined to the coffin and straw mat, it would be better to blend with the soil and nourish the spring flowers on this ground, so that she could also benefit from it."

No one said anything anymore, only the slightly cold wind gently blew over the surface of the corpse with the fragrance of flowers, making people unable to smell a trace of rot.

"What else did she say?" After a long time, the man asked in a low voice, and the hand hanging by his leg was trembling.

The young man did not notice, he thought about it carefully, and then shook his head, "My Lord, that's all she said."

The man's adam's apple slid up and down, and then suddenly grinned a smile that was uglier than crying, "No...nothing? She didn't even..." He didn't say anything to him, even if it was hatred. He still swallowed the rest of the words back, waiting for them to rot in his stomach, and then suddenly swung the horse whip in his hand and rolled the corpse out of the pit.

"Master!" the young man exclaimed, and knelt down in front of the man, begging, "Master, Master... Even if Miss Mei Lin has done something wrong, death is like the end of a lamp, please let her be buried..."

The bloodthirsty eyes like a wild beast made the young man involuntarily hushed his voice, and he swung his long whip and whipped the corpse fiercely.

"You want to die with spring flowers, but I won't allow it!"

Another whip, and with a dull sound, rags flew up.

"You want to live in peace here, but I won't let you!"

The vicious oath was choked with imperceptible sobs, and a silver-white robe fell down, covering the rotting corpse stained with mud. The man suddenly bent down and picked up the body, jumped on the horse several times, and then rode through the apricot blossom forest toward the place where the clouds and the sky met.

In February, the peach blossoms turned red and the apricot blossoms turned white, rapeseed flowers bloomed everywhere, and willow leaves looked like blue tailors...

In a trance, he seemed to hear a woman singing softly in his ears, just like in the remote mountain village last year. He lay quietly on the bed while she was drying laundry in the yard. The sunlight penetrated the worn window paper and danced in front of his eyes like a butterfly of light.
