"Finally, good to see you, partner," I said, while relief washed over me like a tidal wave. "Why were you not answering? Where did you go? I was unable to wait for the system's answer before posing the questions that were eating at me with rapid succession.
[There was a need to check what the goddess was planning, as Gods can't affect the mortal plane; they need other means to deal with unsavory people.] The system answered everything calmly, like a parent speaking to a child, and that pissed me off. I was here worrying about what happened to my friend, and she was just checking something. "Why didn't you answer then? I was worried about you; I thought something happened." Before I can even think, my mouth moved on its own, my voice sobbed and it carried the hurt I felt.
[I apologize for not giving you a heads up, but May, you must understand that it was for our own good. I had a chance to see what she was up to, so I took it. I acknowledge that it was wrong that I left without informing you but this was a nanosecond window of opportunity, I needed to take it.] The system answered this time, more anxious almost pleading .
"I-I-I" I shut my mouth to stop myself from saying something stupid that would make me seem like a child throwing a tantrum.

I take in a deep breath to calm down and think more clearly. "Just don't go off on your own without informing me beforehand. Now tell me what you managed to find." I pose my inquiry
As I am waiting for the system's reply. I start to think about what to do with the corpse of the sheep, and my need for survival wins over my disgust, so I have decided to skin and gut it, so that I can have meat that doesn't taste like it came from the back of a KFC.
[The goddess realized we were alive, hence I needed to find what her plan was. That was why I left; I needed to see what has changed in the world from our survival. "I see that b**ch is really making my life difficult," I answer while dragging the giant sheep away from my cave. "Now onto more pressing matters. How do I skin an animal?" I ask the system with uncertainty in my tone. [I will formulate a step-by-step guide just a moment.] As the system finished, I have reached a sufficient distance away from my cave to begin my work.
[Step 1: Place carcass, belly up, on a slope if available.
Step 2: Remove genitals or udder.
Step 3: Remove musk glands at the knees.
Step 4: Split hide from tail to throat. Make the cut shallow so you do not pierce the stomach.
Step 5: Insert your knife under the skin, taking care not to cut into the body cavity. Peel the hide back several inches on each side to keep hair out of meat.
Step 6: Open the chest cavity by splitting the sternum. You can do this by cutting to one side of the sternum where the ribs can join.
Step 7: Reach inside and cut the windpipe and gullet as close to the base of the skull as possible.
Step 8: With the forward end of the intestinal tract free, work your way to the rear, lifting out internal organs and intestines. Cut only where necessary to free them.
Step 9: Carefully cut the bladder away from the carcass so that you do not puncture the bladder (urine can contaminate meat). Pinch the urethra tightly and cut it beyond the point you are pinching.
Step 10: Remove the bladder.
Step 11: From the outside of the carcass, cut a circle around the anus.
Step 12: Pull the anus into the body cavity and out of the carcass.
Step 13: Lift or roll the carcass to drain all the blood.
Step 14: Remove the hide, make cuts along the inside of the legs to just above the hoof or paw. Then peel the skin back, using your knife in a slicing motion to cut the membrane between the skin and the meat. Continue this until the entire skin is removed.
Step 15: Most of the entrails are usable. The heart, liver, and kidneys are edible.]
"That is so disgusting, but I need to do this. I really need the meat; I can't continue to eat corrupted meat."
"Okay, belly side up, yeah, okay," I start talking to myself as I am reading the system's wall of text.

"System isn't skinning; usually, it's done with a knife?"

"Good point."
[5 minutes later]
"Annnnddd done, now just to put it into my inventory and skedaddle. God, now I'm starting to sound like my old man," I say as I start putting the meat, bone, and fur in my inventory.

"Great, that's a lot of meat, and I even got a new skill. Now it's time to go back."
[Yes, it's getting dark; it's better to go back.]
Following the system's advice, I go back to the cave. When I return, the first thing I do is clean my new home by removing the blood, which is surprisingly easy. I just need to touch the blood and will it into my inventory.

When I am done, I take out the fur and put it in the corner, and voila, my new bed, which is depressing but the best I got. At least it is very fluffy.
[10 minutes later]
I am laying down, talking to the system and thinking about what to do tomorrow.
"Let's get my level up first so I can get some emergency status points."

"Yeah."

"I don't like calling you system."
[If you would like, you may give me a more appropriate name.]
"Nah, I don't want to name you." Before the system can misunderstand, I correct myself.
"I don't want to name you because that makes me feel like you only exist because of me."
[But it is the truth that I only exist because of you.]
"I know it's just how I feel, when you're ready, give yourself a name, and I will gladly accept it."

[Amira.]
"Yes?"
[Amira, that's the name I chose.]
"Great, Amira, I love it," I reply, unable to stop myself from smiling.
