Chapter 2: A Happenstance
I sat down by the tree in my backyard all alone with nothing to do and sad. My mom saw me and came to me. "What happened my dear child? Why are you sad?" She asked in her sweet voice as she sat beside me. Out of tears I replied, "I have no one to play with. Everyone hates me. I don't have any friends."
She smiled at me and gave me a tight hug and said "My dear angel, always know how to be happy alone. Today you have friends but tomorrow they are all gone. But you know which friend stays with you forever? Its the friend inside you." "Friend inside me?" I asked her out of curiosity. "Yes, a friend inside you. You are your own friend. All you need to do is think about her and she will appear before you in your mind. And you know what's the best thing, she is just like you!" she said to me as she got up and went back to the work.
My 6 year old self couldn't understand everything she said but all I understood was that there was a friend inside me and she will appear if I think about her.
That day I sat under that tree, with all my imaginative power I thought about a girl of my age, like me and she appeared! I laughed so hard and ran across our backyard with tears of joy in my eyes. It was like a dream come true. That was the first time I saw Jun Kokoro. She wore a cute pastel blue dress with a white ribbon on it. She had a very sweet look.
I said to her 'hi' and she replied 'hello, my dear best friend'. It was the first time someone ever called me a beat friend. I was soo happy that I wanted to hug her. I imagined hugging her and she hugged me back! That day I spent all day and night talking to her about me, my life, my dog, my mom, my dad even my clothes and shoes.
She listened to me with keen eyes, sweet smile and a beautiful aura. That day for the first time, someone listened to my thoughts and didn't think I was weird.
That was the best day of my life, when I found my friend who always lived inside me. It was just a happenstance but that incident left a major influence on my life. Having someone to talk to anytime, anywhere about anything feels so good.
Everyone has that someone inside themselves. Try it! You will find it!
