Synopsis
A family inclined to kindness and charity would grace the descendants.
Thanks to one small act of kindness,
by providence she comes across a grateful friend;
Fortunate that her mother,
has done an unperceived good deed….
Men should rescue the distressed and aid the poor…
Who would have guessed that kindness in this world ultimately would be the road that one must choose, that proverbial fork in the road?
Clouds of rain float on eastern winds as new vines start to blossom.
Though drums of war roar too loudly and their brilliance has been lost,
a green grass carpet greets the sun by the break of morning.
Let us wait for the yellow leaves, a few gourds are harvested.

Write a reviewI have read a lot of CN novel translations and have become jaded by the recurring tropes. This novel is a breath of fresh air with its easygoing vibe and slight undertone of mystery. Reading a chapter of this is a highlight of my day. So Translators and Editors keep up the EXCELLENT Work! I was sad when the previous translators went MIA and was overjoyed when it was picked up. This story is one of the reasons I am grateful that Qidian started on the translating scene.
The novel is good really good i thought this novel is gonna be bad and complicated so i thought i will only read 5 chapters if i don't get interested i will stop reading it...but i only finished reading two chapters and i already liked the novel. This is worthy to read.
I've read until around 40 chapters in English and some raws, but not on Qidian (look up on NU for previous tl). - Only 568 chapters, so it's considered extremely short to invest your precious time. Read it if you have spare time, like the premise, or already read every other novels. - Not a cultivation focused novel, more like political slice of life. - Slow paced, but intelligent story. And by intelligent, I mean, even antagonist have a proper background & course of actions, not just mindless brute. - It is a harem. Not just a harem because someone is peerless beauty capable of destroying nations, but because they have a good character & skillset.
First off, Joy Of Life is a novel. It has the pacing, characterization, and plotting of a novel. If you come in expecting the usual face-slapping webnovel trash, you'll be disappointed. No, lie down, grab a cup of tea, and properly savor this. Characterization is where Joy of Life shines. The enemies feel like real people, with their own goals, values, and interests. Hell, some of 'em go on to become friends! As for plotting and action, it's well done. Fight scenes feel tense, the protagonist gets his badass moments, and generally nothing feels too gunky and overdone. If I have one complaint, it's that Joy of Life's protagonist--it's hard to pinpoint what he wants, really. Who is he? What are his goals? The emotional drive of the story, or at least the protagonist's contribution to it, can seem hollow sometimes. In short, this story is a 5/5 by the standards of webnovels, but as a serious novel...it's good, but nowhere near great.
One of the best authors out there. Brilliantly written (and translated). It follows the life of a young courtier who is from a different world. Watch how he learns and adapts to life in the chaos that is called the royal court. Witness as he adventures towards his goal of achieving and experiencing the joys of life.
Surely one of the best in the novels currently being translated, I have always liked reading Mao Ni's work's, although it seems a little slow paced, but this is exactly the charm of the novel. Looking forward to future chapters
its a breeze of cool spring amidst the hot dessert. Really worth reading as it refreshes you after reading so many novels. I really look forward to future developments. Hope it keeps up the standard. Less fighting, less cultivation, clever scheming, thrilling storyline. Well I am loving it.
Mao Ni is still clever with his plot, and I do love his works greatly. It is not your typical novels with vengeful mc but a likeable and smart young man.
The MC hypocrisy goes deep and the many plotholes despite a good beginning. I just don’t understand why it’s viewed so highly. Though I am big fan of the Author you gotta admit for a one of his first works, it’s quite flawed
This novel is No doubts the best written translated CN novel out there , although there is cultivation it by no means make the MC a one man army . This novel focus more on the interactions between the MC and the Highly interesting and intriguing cast of characters , making it depends more on wit and cunning rather than brute force like most otger CN novels with a very nice and fitting world background. Please take in consideration that this is rather the slow paced novel since story starts out from MC child days . Overall this is a great novel and for those of you averse to the harem tag , Fear not the harem is extremely well implemented and nothing feels more natural nor it is forced with unrivalled beauties wanting the MCs babies left and right.
This story is good with good character development and specially this is realistic novel which i like the most not some let's kill who ever come in our way types please update more chapter 😊
Well, as one would expect from Mao Ni...................................................... This is good.................................................................................................

I have not even started reading this book but I have been looking for it for so long so I am giving it 5 stars. Thanks Ficool. After seeing the movie on YouTube and not been able to complete it I have been on a craze to read the novel. The plot is earth-quackingly amazing if that is a thing. The plot diverts and twists and still has a smooth flow and wonderful transition. After experiencing this I realised that nothing is predictable because this has blown my mind.
Novel is good and if you have time you should watch drama adaption as well though it only has 1 season for now next 2 are planned in following years 2021 for season 2 idk about season 3 but it was announced it would have 3 seasons
Interesting novel. Intriguing. Keeps one glued to reading & curious to sequence of events. The culture is quite intricately described. It gives exposure to another culture, folktale inserts. Thanks.
One of the best novel with out any doubt. This is political novel with great world, character and story development. Also characters in this story, I had found them to be pretty intelligence and interesting at the same time. Everyone must give this novel a chance atleast once. Regardless many may not found it to be slow moving and not their type of story, but still give it a shot. For this is undoubtly a great story none the less.
Unique transmigration novel with unique characters (MC as well as several side characters). I don't clearly understand why everyone wants character development in a novel but I like most of the novels with unique characters and their interactions. By the way this novel has one of the most intriguing interactions.
This story is not your typical "you look down on me so i kill your entire 18 generatiôns" you rarely see the mc fight. This storÿ is more about the political balance and scheming. The character development is the best thing in this novel. (It's TTNH level imo). The world building is 3.5 it gives you what you need to know: No more, No less. The start is slower than TTNH but quicker than ZTJ. If you enjoy visualizing the novels you read this is good. If you enjoy heavy actiôn then this isn't for you. You should try it out either way tbh
