Stay Out of My Way
" BUCKY! BUCKY! WHAT'S YOUR LOCATION?!" Sam yells into his ear piece.
" 1573 REED STREET! WHERE ARE YOU SAM?? THERE'S TOO MANY OF THEM!" Bucky replies fighting off the armed men flooding into the four-story building. "SAM! I'm out of ammo!"
"I'm almost there! Hang on" Sam responds.
Suddenly, a shot is fired from below. Sam falls from flight and hits the ground rolling into the street. He groans but rolls to his knees- "Damn it, I dropped the shield." He tries to take flight, but his wing is to damaged. The attacker runs out of the dark alley and tries to fire at Sam. Sam charges at the assailant and a fight begins between them.
"SAM! I'm in big trouble here!" Bucky screams.
"I'M COMING! KEEP IT TOGETHER CYBORG!" Sam finally subduing his attacker takes off running.
Bucky, hiding behind a counter fires his last round. A silence falls briefly before more shots pelt the wall above him. "NO! NOT NOW!" Bucky places his hands over his ears but it's to late- the flashbacks flood his brain. Images of the night of his capture, the torture, the pain, Hydra. Bucky fights to regain his composure, but it's no use. He can't get out of his own head. Out of frustration, he screams.
The shooting stops. Bucky opens his eye's, confused. Dark blue smoke begins to fill the room. Slowly but swiftly engulfing the armed men. Bucky can hear them screaming. Some are shooting- but not at him. There's something in the smoke. Flashes of what he mistakes as lighting appear quickly in the mist.
Bucky, distracted by the enigma surrounding him fails to see the heavily armed individual approaching from the side. The armed would be attacker points his weapon at Bucky just as he turns to the sound of footsteps beside him. Time slows to nearly a still- and the shot is fired.
A loud bell like chime is all that is heard. It's nearly deafening. Bucky opens his eyes. A cloaked, small figure kneels in front of him. He brings his focus in. The attacker falls backwards. He can see now- this person- they have THE SHIELD. The figure turns their attention to Bucky and shoves a loaded weapon into his hands.
"On your feet, zimniy soldat" the feminine voices shouts.
Bucky's heart drops- He recognizes that voice. "It can't be.." He thinks to himself.
The woman jumps over the counter and draws out a Iron Spear. The spear is beaming with the same eerie blue hue that hovers over her hands. Taking out man after man. Bucky finally out of his nightmare, jumps into the mix. The two dance around each other, perfectly timing each hit. Never tripping the other. Moving fluidly and passionately. Even in all the chaos Bucky, knows every move the mystery woman is going to make.
"It can't be.. They told me she was dead." He keeps repeating over and over internally.
Bucky realizes that Sam has been yelling at him through the ear piece.
"BARNES! Answer Me!" Sam shouts.
"I'm a little busy right now Sam!" Bucky exclaims as he continues in the fight.
But something happens. The cloaked figure stakes her spear into the floor and Bucky's instincts tune in finely to hers. She rounds herself around the spear like a pole vaulter and Bucky covers her six. Her hood has fallen and they are brought face to face. Bucky is in disbelief but doesn't say a word. He knows this woman.
"We're surrounded!" She says. Bucky is still into much shock to reply but turns his back and stands parallel to her stance. Quickly, the woman takes out a wire like tether.
"Tie yourself to me!" she says
"WHAT?" Bucky proclaims
"DO IT!" she shouts
Bucky quickly helps to ties himself back to back with her.
"Do you have a plan?", She remains silent. Tying a firm knot in the tether. "HELLO!" Bucky yells "We're going to die here!"
"When did you become such a talker, Barnes?" She replies.
Armed men start filling into the small open room. Bucky is still trying to figure out what this mad woman's plan is. The woman closes her hazel eyes and hold out her hands. The dark blue smoke reappears and forms a circle around them. Bucky realizes- he's levitating. They slowly float higher off the ground and the smoke spins faster. The armed men can no longer see them through the mist. The woman opens her eyes- and they glow fiercely blue.
Bucky looks down and sees the floor open. Space. Bucky is looking directly into open Space below him. The smoke spins like a tornado. The armed men are pulled into the vacuum of the open rift.
Screams fill the building. The men try to run but it's no use. The smoke is spinning faster and faster. Bucky is in awe. As the men are drawn towards the rift, they no longer are pulled into the void. But begin to disintegrate upon impact in the smoke tunnel around them. He had only seen something like this one other time. The night his regiment was captured. With one final war cry- the woman releases a wave of energy pushing out the mist, eliminating anything in it's path. Closing the rift, they are lowered to the ground.
The woman cuts the tether and Bucky falls on his behind. The woman walks over to the Shield and kicks it up. Bucky stares, awe struck. He had only seen Steve handle the Shield in such a way. The woman kneels before him, placing the Shield in his lap.
"I know you're tracking me soldat." She says calmly
She brings her eyes to his "Stay out of my way Barnes. Or I'll cut that pretty face of yours."
In a flash she's gone. Bucky is left sitting on his rear in the middle of a war torn bar room. Sam finally comes running in. He slows down and surveys the room.
"Barnes! Barnes, what the hell happened here?" Sam asks.
Sam looks at Bucky's lap and sees the Shield he dropped five blocks back. He looks at Bucky with shock. Bucky smirks and simply says "Iris.." Sam gives a confused expression.
"You say that like I'm supposed to know who that is! Who is Iris??" Sam replies.
Bucky looks up at Sam and responds "...Hydra's Glorious Mistake."
