Chapter 1: Class dismiss!
"The World's End' became the most hyped and downloaded game so far this year!" it's was the front cover of many magazines this month's edition. The game got downloaded for over a hundred million times in its first week of release, after two months it past the billion download mark and still not stopping since a lot of top streamers, YouTube gaming channels and even celebrities are into it.
"Hey, Joem! You have internet now?" Fred said, this guy is one few he wants to punch in the face. What really got into his nerves is being bossy around and treats him like his secretary whenever there's group task. He did most of the work but in the end, Fred gets credits and higher grade than him.
"Uhm... Yeah! Need to search anything?" Fred pushed him off his seat, then sat on it for a while to download this popular game right now in the internet.
"Please don't download anything for now, my computer is currently updating and it take me a long time to reach 90 %, Dude!" but this guy paused it, download this game and his data were used as result.
Fred stood up after finishing the download, eject his USB in Joem's laptop and return to his seat w/out saying thank you to him. Joem's took a long breath to calm himself and clicked to continue the update.
Thankfully it was successfully updated several software and it needed to be shutdown to complete the process.
"Beeep!!!" the bell rang, the prof checked the attendance and class ends for today.
"Next group be ready to report on Monday! Before i dismiss the class, we have to clean the room" Arch. Mar Ferio said, as head of the Architecture dept. he wants maintain the cleanliness of the rooms used by his students and break the bad image of the dept. of having messy and dirty rooms.
After the professor went out first and the rest followed one after another. Joem last one to go out since help cleaning the room, he turn-off the breaker and close the room after.
This became a habit since elementary days, then he brought it on his 1st day of college and he always the first to come in the morning class as well.
After 30 minutes, the room was clean and he closed it. On his way out, there are several classmates that haven't gone home and waiting for him. During his first day, he got close w/ four male classmates and the female class president and they become closed since then.
His happiness was a cut short; the group separated when two other decided to drop and shift to another course. By next semester, they changed school after the first semester.
While, the other two went to other group and he left alone since then. It's hard for him to adopt or be comfortable w/ newly known people. This personality really puts him at disadvantage and one of the reasons to fall from the school top rankings.
This hit hard his emotional area, he mostly spend his time alone in the library. Reading history of architecture, Frank Lloyd Wright's related books and painting stuff. Sleeping in the library also became a habit after lunch.
He lived in w/ his Aunt's family while studying in the city since his family stayed back in their island province.
At earliest, he went home by seven pm. and eight pm. when it's rush hour. This was after he failed all his two math subjects and re-enrolled it w/ at least five failed students.
They got a lot people signed on calculus but only him w/ trigonometry so he has wait until next year to enroll it. This delayed him even longer and was scolded by his parents after informing them about it.
The night class started from six to eight pm and he always goes home tired already w/ all the schedule of the new semester. The math class became the way for Joem and his classmates to be close then form new groups.
His new friends were Jai, Hana, Bert, Switz, June and Tyron. Having this group made him less stress and looked forward the next day of school.
"Let's go eat something together before going home!" Hana said, she's a regular student unlike the rest of us are irregular. Hana's also the girlfriend of Jai since last sembreak and has the qualities of a leader among us.
"I'm also hungry after that long reporting, standing and reply to questions." Bert said. Today's class was scheduled to have two groups to report and Bert's pair are last to do it.
"I have twenty pesos here, guys!" Joem said.
They went to a bakery in front of the school and sat to a table for six people. He put the money on the table and everybody started to chip in their extra allowance today.
"Okay, two liters of cola and the rest is pancho bread" Jai said. Along w/ Hana, they took in-charge food and left the other four in the table. Jai has an elder sister, who also studies in the same but different course. He's really good in using charcoal as medium in drawing portrait.
Hana has an elder sister who's already working and helping w/ her studies. Like Tyron, she's also really good in art competitions and she's really good watercolor painter. Jai and Hana started dating after the sembreak and this two became inseparable since then.
"Hey, Joem! Any trouble w/ that guy, Fred?" Switz asked.
"You know that dude and his antics so no need to worry about it!" Joem replied.
"If I was the one being pushed around? He'll eat my first right away and no questions ask!" Bert said, while rubbing his knuckles. Joem looked at this troublemaker and gestured its fine to let this incident slide.
"Calm down, guys! It's not yet time for that and that will get us into trouble." Tyron said. The gifted artist in the group, he's all-rounder in painting different kinds of medium. He even became a finalist in his first ever major art competition in the country and he was featured on TV for his sculpture entitled 'Injustice'.
"Any of you guys played the game 'The World's End?" Joem asked.
"I played it last night at home!" Bert replied. The shortest among the group, he has an elder sister who works as singer/entertainer in Singapore.
He able to buy a second hand desktop computer, after his mother got a commission from selling a property near the old domestic airport in city. That place became a business hub w/ hotels, mall and a lot more since the government started to reclaim the near the river bank and turned into esplanade.
"Not yet!" Switz replied. The eldest among his sibling of four and he's staying w/ a relative in a well-off subdivision. He was among in the waiting list to be enrolled and his last name is similar w/ the dept. head. He's currently a student assistant in the department's office due to money problems and recommendation of class president.
"Me too!" Tyron said.
"Here's our food, guys!" Hana four different breads, while Jai is holding the plastic cups and the two liter cola.
"Peeesh!!!" the cola was opened, Switz pour it one by one and tried to make evenly shared to all. Jai raised his glasses and everyone followed him then said.
"Cheers!!!" they said.
"I heard you're talking about this new game! I have not also played it yet. I'm more into sugar crash, tetris and plants vs. zombies." Hana said.
"Call of duty and LOL for me." Jai said.
"Need for speed, counter strike and Dota are my all-time fave!" Bert said.
"Subway surfer and clash of clan are games in my phone!" Tyron said
"Most of games are FPS and I'm not into RPG games like Dota, Lol and this new game.
"Burrp!!!" Joem accidentally burp after drinking his cola.
"Hahaha!!!" everyone laughed while waiting for bus and they went home after done eating.
