Chapter 1: Chapter 1

It was almost midnight, and slaying vampires was a fucking drag. There were good vampires and bad vampires, as known as rogues. They'd been bad lately, and I had been killing them one by one. It felt good in my soul. Once my boss, Ashton Rylan, had sent me to talk to a ghoul about a vampire, it meant bad news. All ghouls hated humans, especially the ones who were in law enforcement, like myself.

I was just a normal private investigator, until they made me a legal vampire slayer, or huntress of the night. Which was more fun than taking down humans. So yes, I decided to take the job.

As I was saying, I was supposed to talk to a ghoul about a particular vampire, a tall, dark, and not-so-handsome entity. I just assumed that he was ugly, most vampires weren't, but the one I was looking for was unfortunately ugly.

I grabbed my summoning spell book that was hidden in my Nike bag, and a black candle that I needed to lit up, so I can summon the ghoul from its slumber. And as I lit the candle, I closed my eyes as the wind began blowing in the essence of the night. I took a deep breath and recited the short, but brief, summoning spell.

"Lord Krallus, from the Dark Realms!" I called out, "I summon you, and we have unfinished business. Arise, and live again, for this one time!" My voice became an echo as if my voice was like a microphone.

The ground shook rapidly like it was an earthquake, then a spiral of the spirit swirled until it became in a human-like spirit form. Freaky.

"Liliana Harper," he said. "I'm very surprised to see you out here this time of night."

"Cut the small talk, I need to know about one of your people." I said sternly.

"Oh?"

"Don't play dumb with me, Krallus, where is he?"

"I don't know who you're referring to, Miss Harper." I could tell he was lying. Maybe if I can trick him by saying his name, maybe, just maybe, I could find him.

"Don't you dare play coy with me, Krallus," I said, "You might think you're funny, my lord, but you're not, so spit it out."

"Ah," he chuckled. "You're talking about Dracula, aren't you?"

"What? No." I shook my head in disbelief. "I thought Dracula's dead."

"He's still alive, my lovely." His cryptic dead voice was cringeworthy. It made my skin crawl.

"Well, he is not the one I'm looking for. I'm talking about Isaac." I told him.

"Ah, yes. My Minion. What did he do this time?"

"Why should I tell you? The undead are my business, not yours."

Lord Krallus would always ask me what his Minions did. And I always tell him that it was none of his business.

As he glared at me, I grunted in frustration because he wanted an answer from me. It was hard for me to give it to him, but oh well.

"Fine, if you must know, Dante had been murdering a lot of strippers at a local strip club. I'm trying to hunt him down."

"Well, I'm the wrong ghoul to help you. If you want to know, ask my brother."

"Who's your brother?"

"I told you, Dracula."

"Oh really, Krallus?"

He nodded. "We're close friends, almost like blood family."

"Hmmm." I folded my arms across my chest.

"Okay, I believe you for now. I'm still gonna hunt down your Minion even if it kills me."

"Very well."

"You ready to go back to the grave?"

He nodded again.

I opened my summoning spell book, and recited an original spell to make him go back to the grave. "Lord Krallus, I'm sending you back to the grave. Begone, and enjoy your slumber, and until next time, I shall see you again."

His body swirled and spiraled again, but this time, into the grave, the wind blew again, but no rumbling earth.

As I turned around to put my summoning spell book and candle back into the Nike bag, I saw him.

A tall, mysterious, the most beautiful man I had ever seen. His ensemble reminded me of a man back in the eighteenth century. Frilled white shirt, black leather pants, and a black trench coat. His smoky green eyes caught my attention, his pale skin was as smooth as butter. His hair was as curly as mine, but mine was longer than his. As I met his gaze, I knew who he was.

Dracula.

"Liliana Marie Harper," he said in a deep seductive tone with his gaze meeting mine.

I was speechless. "How do you know my name?"

"I'm the king of vampires, I know everyone and everything."

In my head, his beautiful, pale face was going to make me moist, well, just a little. I mean don't get me wrong, he was a good looking vampire, but I kill them for a living. I didn't know if I can trust him or not. The way he looked at me almost felt like I'm under his spell, as if he's controlling my mind to feel some type of way. We'll see.

"Do you want something, Mr. Dracula?"

"Well, I heard you are looking for Dante, I'm looking for him as well."

I cocked an eyebrow. "Oh?"

"He stole from me and he's cursed."

"Cursed?"

He gave a nod. "It's hard to explain, but I do need your help."

"You need my help?" I laughed hysterically as I continued to be cautious. "Why would a king of vampires need my help?"

"Well you're the slayer, the huntress of the night, and I've seen you around; you can fight, luv."

"Gee, thanks," I said.

He gave another nod.

As we paused for a moment, I didn't know what to say, to be honest, I thought Dracula was a bad entity, but I guess he wasn't. But I also didn't want another vampire to trick or manipulate me.

"So will you help me?" He asked me, as his eyes caught my attention again, especially the way he looked at me. I was getting vulnerable and the answer I would've gave him was a no, but since that he's innocent and wants vengeance not on humans, but others entities, so I had no choice.

I sighed as I took a deep breath and exhaled.

"Okay, I will help you," I said.

He took my hand and pressed his lips on my knuckles. I blushed as I snatched my hand back after he kissed it.

"Meet me at Lafayette Cemetery tomorrow night, we can discuss details then." He told me.

I nodded. "Okay, sounds good."

Then, Dracula dematerialized in the essence of the night.

After Dracula left, I grabbed my phone out of my back pocket, and attempted to call Jane Holloway, my best friend. Unfortunately, she didn't answer so I left a voicemail.

"Jane, it's me. Girl, you cannot believe who I ran into. Call me back. " I hung up the phone and ran out of the graveyard as quickly as possible.

****

The morning seemed kind of slow, and I didn't know why. As I made French Roast coffee, slowly brewing in the coffee pot, a knock at the door startled me.

As I opened the door, my friend, Jane Holloway, came in, and she was absolutely curious about last night, especially the voicemail I sent her.

"All right, Lily. I just got your message. Who'd you see?"

"Dracula," I said.

"I thought he was dead."

"That's what I said!" I raised my voice in excitement as my eyes widened, "I talked to one of the ghouls, and he basically said he's still alive, and the best part is, he wants my help."

Jane shrieked. "Oh my God, Lily, so did you say yes?"

I looked down at the floor and then at Jane as I nodded my head.

She shrieked again, but this time, I interlaced my fingers into hers and jumped up and down. And it kind of felt good.

"When are you going to see him again?"

"Tonight," I told her.

"It's time for you to put on your best outfit yet. The Leather."

"Why the Leather?"

The truth behind the Leather was supposed to be a girls night out look, but since I'm a legal vampire slayer, it attracted vampires easily. The outfit came with a leather jacket, a skin-tight catsuit, and a silver crucifix, to protect myself.

"Because, it's an outfit that would change your life," she said with a wink.

I just gave her a nod, even though I'm very comfortable and confident in my clothing. "I don't know, Jane."

"Okay, you have a choice. You could wear the leather and get the attention from men, or you could wear decent clothing and get no men. It's up to you."

I hated an ultimatum, especially when my friends came up with one. Oh boy.

I scoffed at her, because that decision was a difficult one to make. "Fine, I'll wear the Leather."

"Yay!" She sang, then looked at her watch. "Oh girl, I have to go, my husband is driving me off insane. He wants me to pick up a box of condoms and marijuana."

I chuckled. "Have fun with that.

Then she had left my house.

After she left, my phone rang, suddenly. As I answered the phone, Ashton was on the line telling me that there has been another mysterious murder at a local strip club. The way he described the murder was outrageous, and I didn't know if that was possible. He said there were throats ripped out and blood drained from the body, he also said that the body itself had shriveled up like a raisin.

"Okay, I'm on my way," I just told him.

I got dressed in my normal clothes, grabbed my car keys and went out the door.
