Chapter 20: The Prey and Predator

Doms Workshop

General POV

The rain kept pouring down without mercy, wrapping the military-grade vehicles in a wet curtain. These machines, armed to the teeth, stood like silent guards in the storm, their menacing forms concealed by the constant drumming of raindrops.

An air of tension surrounded them as the soldiers inside kept a vigilant watch, as if protecting some precious mystery from prying eyes.

The atmosphere hummed with anticipation, much like a pack of predators ready to seize the perfect moment on unsuspecting prey.

However, the boss's command held them at a standstill, freezing their impending clash. Despite the storm, a calmness contradicted the tense atmosphere, with their faces hidden, revealing an unusual ease that starkly contrasted the charged energy surrounding them.

Months of meticulous planning led the mercenaries to this crucial juncture, underscoring their appreciation for the importance of patience.

Their unwavering focus, honed through countless missions, attested to their readiness for this specific scenario. Despite the relentless rain, the soldiers held their ground, patiently awaiting the signal from their enigmatic leader.

Suddenly, the long-awaited signal arrived, and the soldiers shifted their attention. Emerging from the veil of rain and darkness, another seamlessly camouflaged military-grade vehicle glided into view.

The soldiers, executing flawless military precision, surrounded it, their movements harmonized like a wolf pack.

In the forefront of the group, a figure radiating authority—clearly a seasoned leader—commanded attention. In the midst of the relentless rain, this individual moved with purpose, each step resonating with determination and experience.

Approaching the front of the assembly, soldiers instinctively made way, creating a path for his advance.

His face was hidden by the night and a battle-hardened demeanor, approached the awaiting vehicle.

The rain intensified its rhythmic beat on soldiers and metallic vehicles forming a symphony that underscored the gravity of the impending encounter.

Without uttering a word, he signaled to his team, setting off a silent transformation. Doors opened, soldiers assumed positions, weapons at the ready.

Tension heightened as the leader turned toward the vehicle, the air thick with unspoken motives and concealed agendas.

Soon, a man towering over six feet emerged from the car. His face, adorned with battle scars, was complemented by a neatly trimmed beard and hair.

Anyone who laid eyes on him would be intimidated by his appearance, akin to encountering a formidable grizzly bear baring its teeth.

"The target is inside the workshop with two others. Here's the infrared footage."

Enhancing an image of a blue-colored body on the floor, he continued,

"Target B, Yuna Sung, appears to be deceased. An unidentified female is securing Target A, armed with a shotgun, and there's another individual in the opposite room. Judging by height and structure, presumed to be a man."

The man paused, awaiting orders with a confident look.

"Great work, Sam. Send five with me and the rest to secure the area. Make sure no one gets in.

Set up the surroundings to mislead, make it look like Mathew Sung is the suspect."

Moving toward the door, five closely shadowing him, a subtle smirk played on his lips. Casting a final glance at the vibrant upper advertising, he signaled his subordinates with a nod and a hand gesture.

A sly grin hinted at the satisfaction of a well-executed plan.

They activated a device, releasing an electric pulse that sizzled through the circuits, rendering all electronic devices in the entire building useless, causing a complete blackout.

"Come on boys we have 30 minutes"

Haeun Kim's POV:

"Fuck..."

"What?" I asked as I witnessed Ryu suddenly faint, collapsing backward. Was he too drunk, I wondered, moving quickly to catch him. However, he was surprisingly way much heavier than he looked, and in the process, I lost my own balance, tumbling on top of him.

But fortunately, there was a sofa there, so the fall was cushioned. Despite that, my heart pounded rapidly.

When I began working here for my part-time job, I couldn't help but steal secret glances at him while he worked.

He was the hottest guy I had ever seen—tall, cool, and popular, unlike me, navigating a world that felt confined to black and white.

I wanted to talk to him many times, but the fear of being looked at as a creep by him, just like others treated me, held me back.

As I got close, I felt the strong muscles under my touch. My cheeks blushed with heat. Lying on him, the situation got even more intense. I was just in a bathrobe.

His tall frame and ripped body were like a Greek sculpture, and I felt small fitting into his broad chest.

The contrast between his towering height and my petite size was a little too much.

He's sleeping already. How can he do that? He walks through the door, says he loves me... and just knocks out. I stand there, surprised and a bit embarrassed.

It's a mix of emotions — happy he's in love with me, but also wondering how he can fall asleep so fast after saying those things. I smile, thinking, "Well, that's him," and quietly cover him with a blanket, feeling warmth in my heart despite the unexpected situation.

Now, I'm the only one feeling embarrassed.

Honestly, I can't believe it. Someone as cool as him... loves me? Is it because he's drunk?

Feeling his heartbeat up close, I press my ears against his chest, listening to the rhythmic sound, feeling my own heart cool down.

But it didn't last too long.

Clang! Crash! I suddenly got startled, and it hit me—I didn't lock the door. Glancing at Ryu still sleeping comfortably, I mustered some bravery, convincing myself it's probably just a cat or dog.

Grabbing the biggest wrench I could find, hanging on the wall, I tiptoed toward the door, taking a deep breath with various scenarios playing out in my mind.

But the room was filled with the plaintive wail of a newborn, a delicate cry that echoed through the air, capturing my attention.

Is it some ghost? I thought, my mind still haunted by the horror movie I had recently watched.

Nevertheless, the sight I saw was not much different from a horror scene, amplifying as I felt my knees shaking.
