Chapter 1: The sudden descent

I can only assume that this is the beginning of my sudden descent into insanity, I cant possibly be THAT bad of a navigator, and yet I have been trapped in IKEA for two days, I haven't seen another person the entire time I have been here, I thought it was a prank at first turn the place into a maze, get all the other customers out, and see how long it takes me to get lost. I realized that wasn't the case when I tried to backtrack, everything had changed instead of the exit it was just row after row of shelves.

-The journal-

I was walking around IKEA aimlessly, to be quite honest I had forgotten why I was there, but as I walked I would occasionally pick something up that caught my eye after examining it I would out it back down thinking that if I wanted it on my way out I could just come back for it (feel free to laugh at the irony of this). after a certain point I guess I realized I was lost but I'm not quite sure when it happened for some reason things were hazy and I had a hard time keeping track of things that just happened, in a way I felt like something was wrong like I had forgotten something important but for the life of me I couldn't remember. I decided not to let it bother me and instead kept moving forward I was after all lost and I knew a staff member must be around here somewhere right? weird, this place seems bigger than it looked on the outside.

DISCLAIMER: I have no intention of following SCP lore or the loose "canon" that the fan base holds true this is my own interpretation of the SCP-3008 as well as some fun "surprises" along the way (you dont really need knowledge of the SCP universe to read the series) I would also like to Inform you that the characters used in the story will be a mix of my own OCs and characters that I took a liking to that deal with SCP-3008 but altered slightly. Though the story will mostly be a survivors tale of the life within featuring fights between both human and "Staff" (aka SCP-3008-2) it will also feature horror and gory scenes and stories that will often be unpleasant at best if you plan on causing a scene in the comments please find another story to read. The story will also feature a mystery element that will actually affect the MC in many ways and will be a focusing point for the series. keep an eye out for references if you point one out I'll let you decide which "surprise" I bring in first. anyways thank you for at least picking up this novel it is my first real attempt at a series and I hope you enjoy it.

Chapter one

The sudden descent

Zack dashed into IKEA his earbuds blasting heavy metal, his eyes still red from the tears. He had no idea where he was going to go or how he was going to get there "at least I had the common sense to pack a bag" he thought to himself as he ran further into the store surprised no one was following him wondering why a sixteen year old kid would be running into a furniture store with his hood up "maybe their just used to runaways taking shelter in their store" he mused as he sat down behind a shelf to catch his breathe. Zack sat there panting trying to calm his breath and once he finally managed to settle his lungs he peeked out from his position behind the heavily stocked shelf he had to be sure "he" hadn't followed him, a sigh of relief passed his lips when he saw the isle behind him was completely empty, Zack stood and brushed off the dust the had gotten on his hoodie and pants as he went to pick up his bag, which he had placed on the shelf when he sat down, Zack noticed the dust on the shelf looked like it hadn't been cleaned for years there was so much dust in fact that when he wiped his hand across the shelf his whole palm was blackened by it "so much for cleanliness" he muttered as he brushed his hand clean on table clothe that had been folded and placed on the shelf by him. He had grabbed his bag and made his way as stealthily as possible back to the register he was hoping to look out the glass entrance to see if it was safe to leave but after a couple dozen aisles he wondered if he had gone the wrong way after all he had only passed five or six on his way in, after a few more rows he decided he made a stupid mistake and had gone the wrong way so he turned back and walked for almost 20 minutes in a straight line before he realized something was definitely wrong he thought maybe he should call out and ask for help maybe a staff member was nearby but quickly thought against if a staff member did find him they would probably be curious as to why a sixteen year old boy was shopping in a furniture store of all places alone, or maybe he would just get caught by the very person he just outran, no not calling out was the safest bet he could find his way out of a regular old normal IKEA no problem.

Almost an hour had passed and Zack was starting to lose confidence "how fu**ing hard can it be to find your way out of a furniture store Zack" he grumbled aloud as he walked along not deviating from his path, his idea was if he walked in a straight line he would eventually come to the wall and then just like that he could follow it untill he found the exit, however that being said Zack was starting to get a bad feeling about this he had been walking for a long time now "just how big is this store?" he wondered. But that wasn't Zacks only worry after about 30 minutes he realized he hadn't seen or heard a single person since he started his quest to find the exit amd actually he just now remembered he hadn't seen anyone on the way in either "great the stores closed and im lost" he said his voice barely a whisper but the thing was he didn't really believe it deep in his bones he felt a unease that was telling him to run as far and as fast he he could, to find the exit even if it took days, he did his best to push this unease deep inside him he had to remain calm it's just a IKEA outlet not the shadowy woods or some underground cavern the place was a freaking furniture store so what if he couldn't find the exit he had probably made a turn without thinking about as he was lost in thought. Satisfied with that explanation he continued forward with renewed efforts and not a second later he spotted a ladder that was used to stock those huge shelves they have at IKEA just sitting there abandoned, he smiled thinking he luck was turning around as he went to climb the ladder he looked up at that he could see the prongs for his hands to grab and as he did he stumbled backwards in fear, it took everything he had not to call out for help as now he was genuinely afraid to, the ceiling wasn't there not to say he could see the sky almost someone had just taken the roof off like a doll house no this was different, random support beams shot up endlessly stretching up and up untill at the very edge of his vision the appeared to be swallowed by a white mist perhaps a cloud of some sort. He sat on his butt his necked craned back so he could stare at the ceiling or whatever you would call what he was seeing, his mouth was opened in shock and suprise and he sat there for a long amount of time before he quickly jumped up and grabbed the ladder climbing quickly to the very top, Zack was crouching on top of the shelf at first as he was afraid to lose his balance but after a second he managed to stand and as he took in the surroundings he felt his heart pump in his chest like thunder cracking the sky "what the hell" he muttered as he looked out at the endless horizon of shelves and aisles. The occasional clearing or little workers stations that appeared abandoned dotted out the rows here and there but Zack couldn't see a single person in the crazy landscape "am I hallucinating" he wondered aloud his voice stuffed with fear, for years he had worried about snapping he knew that a normal person wasn't meant to deal with everything he had to so he figured it was only a matter of time but what shocked him so much was that it happened only after he managed to get away. as he thought about this he lost his balance and fell on his side with a hard *thump* "definitely not a hallucination" he said happy he wasn't insane but upset he now had a bruised his arm. After standing Zack walked around aimlessly not really sure what to do, he passed aisle after aisle and shelf after shelf his weariness growing with every step, time seemed irrelevant here and he walked for a unknown amount of time before eventually stopping to lay down on a bed that had been set out on display his fatigue gettingtye better of him, Zack clicked his phone on to play some music as he lay there and to make sure he still had no signal, he had checked his phone countless times and although it worked he couldn't get a signal and to add to the weirdness it didn't seem to be losing battery either which was strange on it's own but compared to the situation he found himself in he didn't really think much of it.

As Zack laid their a sudden *kethunk* sound bellowed through the building as the lights all at once went out, the loud sound and sudden darkness made his heart race once more as he ripped the earbuds from his ears and glanced around in a panic, he eventually decided there was nothing to be afraid of and pulled the covers back climbing into the bed, but because his nerves were fried and because he was embarrassingly afraid of the dark he covered himself completely from head to toe with the thick comforter. He had taken most of his clothes off with the exception of his underwear and stuffed them along with his bag under the bed hoping this would help conceal him, as he lay silently and still a thought crossed his mind that maybe he would wake up to find this had all been a dream he smiled for just a second before he immediately regretted the thought anywhere was better than "there" even this place. As Zack quietly sobbed in his commandeered bed he drifted into a calm sleep oblivious to the presence of things lurking in the dark who were also oblivious to his slumbering presence, and this was the beginning of his sudden descent into the world of the unknown.
