"Emberlynn"
I jerk awake from my nap, a sound of footsteps near the cave entrance. I stand on all fours and huddle at the back of the cave keeping my claws retracted so whatever's out there wouldn't hear me, I even hold my breath. I silently, slowly inhale, guess what I feared what I would smell, that's right, humans, or oddly one human by the sound. Why would humans, a human, be here, I thought this place is abandoned, I thought no one goes here, I've been here since I was 14 in human years. Why would they come now? As I back up to the wall, I accidentally scrape my scales against the stone wall and freeze, keeping my eyes and ears sharp for anything. Unfortunately, footsteps come closer to the entrance and by the sound of it, it was a male. The proof is when I hear his voice,
"Hello?! Who's there?" I stay as silent as I can while slowly sneaking towards a large boulder slightly larger than my lizard-like body and crouch, like a cat ready to pounce, as I hear his being coming inside the cave. My heart starts to beat frantically, will he find me? What will this male human being, a little smaller than me, do to me, kill me?
His footsteps stop slightly to the right of the boulder, and I slowly breathe to make sure I don't make the slightest sound. I'm still as a stone figure. He stays there for a few minutes, which feels like a few years, and slowly, quietly leaves the darkness of the cave and disappears into the forest. My heart slowly returns to normal and I ease out of the frozen state my body's in and silently peer around the boulder towards the entranceway. He's thankfully gone.
As I cautiously step out of my hiding place, keeping my angular head towards the opening, Silently hoping he doesn't come back. That was a very close encounter. Too close for comfort, not right now but soon, I'll need another home… again.
