A massive sea of blood and guts...
This was probably the only description that one could come up with once they see what's going on in the city's northern areas. Lifeless bodies were scattered in every part of the streets, as a symphony of screams echoed for all to hear...
The ones still alive ran as fast as they could and hid in whatever spot could provide them cover. Most of them began to repeatedly chant prayers to the gods above to save them from this nightmare. But unfortunately for them, they didn't seem to answer
"Arrrrgggh!"
"Help me, please! M-My mother is-"
"Gaaahhh! Get off me you blood piece of shi-"
"Run you little brats! Run and don't look back...Argh!"
"Please don't! I-I don't wanna die- Gaaaaah! Stop! Please, I-I beg of you!"
The machines of the devil itself were able to find them. They were creatures made up of gears and metal, which seemed to be held together by a core with a lot of magical energy. These creatures had the appearance of normal animals that you'd find anywhere...
Dogs, cats, cows, goats, as well as eagles. They were creatures that one would usually never be scared of at all. At least, if it isn't at a gigantic size and was out to turn them into mincemeat...
These things were ruthless and began to tear off every living creature that they saw into bits.
They appeared out of nowhere once the massive explosion occurred, and it's only been a couple of minutes since they'd begun their rampage, yet the corpses that they made in such a short time were beyond frightening...
And the knights that were sent to intercept them, expert fighters that had years of experience in dealing with wild monsters as well as all sorts of creatures, were now nothing but lumps of flesh...
And at the top of a certain building were two people who were observing the massacre with great interest. From the looks of them, they seemed to be of the dwarven race
"Hehehehe, looks like the Model I-984 also has good mobility. It tore through a knight squadron like it was nothing! Though I have to say, it really needs some improvement with the magical defenses, big bro. One of them was just hit by a mace but I already see a few scratches here and there"
The girl continued to write on her chalkboard before she flicked back her crimson hair with a prideful expression
"You have a lot of guts saying that to my face when I was the one that made the damn thing, Sasha"
The boy with similar features let out a sigh as he sat back at the gigantic hammer that he was carrying. It was made of pure magically reinforced metal which made it far heavier than what any normal person could carry, and yet the boy swung it around as if it bore no weight at all
"Hey, don't hog all of the credit! I was the one that developed the chemical weapons that they used, and my genius brain was also the one who came up with the blueprints for it~"
"You mean this?"
He took a piece of crumpled paper out of his pocket and shoved it to her face
Simply put, It looked like the scribbles of a child
"Who on earth made this piece of crap?"
"It was you! You damn buffoon! Your handwriting was so garbage that I had to redesign the entire thing and make it up from scratch so dontcha dare tell me that MY work was not up to par or I swear to the graves of our family that I won't make all those stupid ideas brewin in your lil head!"
"H-Help me! Please- Gagh!"
They turned to look on a woman who was running nearby. At least, that was what she was before she was slammed by a goat-like animatronic to a wall, turning her into nothing but a mush of red
Upon seeing this, Sasha couldn't help but gasp in horror
"Wah?! What the hell is that, big bro? Look, you're telling me that your work is first-class and all that, but look! The horns were dented from something as meager as that!"
"Of course it'll do that! It busted through a brick wall, you little bugger!"
"No, No, It's because you didn't use the right metal for it. I suggested reinforced titanium but you had to go for cheap steel because it's 'cause effective', my ass..Yeah, I'm taking note of this"
"Lord almighty, I'm having a headache just dealing with you. Anyway, what are we supposed to do here again? Luna told us to cause as much commotion as we could, and then steal...errrr...was it like the artifacts of whatever his name is?"
"The artifacts left by Pope Darius the XI. I think they were tightly secured at that museum over there"
"Hmm, the place looks heavily guarded. What do you say we order these little fellers to bomb-rush the entire building while we just swoop on it from the sidelines?"
"Now that's something we can both agree on. And we better be quick about this, I still have a couple of tests to do, and I don't want Luna to be on my tail"
Saying this, she began to fiddle with a magical diagram which caused all of the animatronics to rush toward the directed spot. And the two of them faded in the shadows...
[---]
And in the southern area of the city, there was a play that was being acted upon the sea of flames. The actors were the poor souls that were trapped in the wretched and scorching hell-fire, and all of them were literally on each other's throats like a bunch of savages
They didn't know why they were killing each other like this, especially considering what was going on right now, but their bodies wouldn't obey their will. It's as if it had a mind of its own, and right now all it wants to do was to mercilessly slaughter anything and everything...
"Behind you, watch out!"
"Gaaaah! I-I have a knife, watch it! I-I can't control my body!"
"M-Mommy...P-Please stopp..."
"My boy, S-Someone please stop me! I-I'm strangling my boy!"
"I got you!"
A knight swooped in and knocked the woman out cold. He gently placed her body down on the ground and looked at his surroundings in horror. Ever since the explosion started everything has gone to shit
Communications were nearly in shambles
They had no idea what was going on
And it was chaos everywhere...
His squad had been dispatched first to rescue those who were closest to the flames, but how can they do that when the victims themselves were killing each other like this?
"Hey man, you alright over there?" One of his fellow knights asked as he jogged towards him
"Yeah, I'm fine, but what about the others?"
"They're trying to restrain as much of them as they could. But we'd need reinforcements to fully calm everyone down, as well as support from the other squadrons to rid them of this curse..."
"Shit, what the hell are the higher-ups doing in a time like this?!"
"I wouldn't put too much of the blame on them. I've been hearing from others that the entire city is experiencing its fair share of troubles right now..."
"What?...Damn it, who the hell would do something like this?"
"I dunno, and that's not for us to find out. Right now, all we need to do is to restrain everyone and make sure this fire doesn't spread to the-"
All of a sudden, the knight stopped at his own words and fell to the ground, like a marionette with its strings cut. His eyes widened at the sight of something that looked to be a kitchen knife that was pierced at his back
How something like that could penetrate through a well-made armor, he could not tell. But the fact remained that his once loyal comrade was now dead in the ground
And behind him was a black-haired figure who seemed to be a woman. Her hair was so long that it stretched down to her legs and covered most of her face, but her crimson eyes which were glowing with animosity were something he couldn't help but notice...
"Were you the one responsible for this?..."
The knight asked as he slowly took out his sword and prepared his spell
"This is the prelude...the beginning of a saga that will be remembered for all eternity. A tale that would surpass even the ones that were created by the Great gods. Even before we were born, this world was already nothing but a novel in which we are nothing more than static characters that are meant to die like worms"
The woman explained passionately as she looked at the night sky with tears in her eyes
"But rejoice, for I shall make you die with purpose. I shall give you an end that is befitting of someone like you. A melodramatic end with a dash of irony in it. Fufuf, I'm sure that my lord would be happy once he sees my creativity improve like this"
"Shut your mouth you crazy woman!"
He was about to draw his blade and strike, but before he could even do so, a hand came from the shadows and grabbed his face before smashing it towards the ground...
"Sorry bud, I know you're pissed but I hope you let it slide just this once"
He heard another voice of a woman gently whisper in his ears before he was shoved back to the ground. He also couldn't make out anything of her due to being covered by a cloak and an ebony mask...
While his mind was sent into a panic, the lady from before then walked up to him and pricked him with a quill. Afterward, she began to write down something in a black book. And before he knew it, his body began to spasm out of control before it seemingly calmed down...
It stood up, much against to his will, and grabbed his sword...
Instead of bearing it on those who destroyed his city, he began to act wildly and slaughter anyone that he could see. Innocent or guilty, young or old, no one was spared. He was once a noble knight that vowed to protect his people from all harm, yet he was now causing it...
And he continued to act like a rabid best until he was stabbed to death by his fellow knights
Truly, it was quite an Ironic end...
"That power of yours really is something" The cloaked figure muttered under her breath as she removed the knife from the previous knight
"This is a gift that I could've only possessed with the guidance of Lord V...Ahhh, he is truly magnificent"
The woman spread out her arms and basked upon the heat of the raging flames. And the cloaked figure could only look at her in worry as she headed back to do her mission
"Right...Well, I'll be looking at a couple of things here that Luna asked me to get. Make sure you keep the distraction wild, okay?"
"...Yes..."
"Yes, what?" The cloaked figure stopped in her tracks and glared at the woman, who immediately sensed her bloodlust
"...Yes ma'am"
"...Sheesh, we're really going a bit too hog-wild recently"
The cloaked woman muttered under her breath as she jumped from building to building
