It has been a day since his future wife, Rhaella Targaryen, was born, and Aerys didn't step away from her, forcing Shaera to take action and shoo her son away.
"You can play with her every day, sweetling. But now you must go back to your quarters." She said as she convinced Aerys.
But, much to her amusement, her firstborn returned early in the day, all ready to spend more time with her and her sister.
….
'Hmm, grandfather and grandmother should visit us today, maybe in a couple of hours,' Aerys mumbled inwardly as he played with his sister. Which mostly included him flailing his hand about so that he could retain her attention.
'I haven't met them in a while; I should spend more time with my grandmother as well…' he mused.
Aegon V was a lost cause who was obsessed with making the dragons return. So he decided to spend time with his grandmother.
But then he frowned as he tried to recall information about his grandmother: 'Not much is given in the books, only about how she sought many alliances for the house by trying to marry her children, but failed spectacularly as everyone of her children except aunt defied her wishes.'
'Well, it's not like she married Aegon out of obligation, as she loved Aegon before marrying him.'
Aerys then turned toward his mother; she was sitting in a chair beside the bed, watching her two children with a small smile on her face.
'Even her death is unknown…' Aerys muttered inwardly.
'I should change a lot of things…'
Most of his family dies in the Summerhall incident, which will happen about thirteen years from now.
'But Uncle Daeron will die about five years from now.' Aerys frowned as he thought about his drunkard of an uncle.
Although he too lives in the Red Keep, he didn't meet him much. 'I think the last time I saw him was about three months ago.'
But just as Aerys was continuing with his thoughts, the door to the room opened, and a middle-aged man, along with a woman, walked in unannounced.
Shaera immediately stood up from her seat when she noticed them. "Father, mother." She greeted as she looked at the king and queen of Westeros.
The woman nodded her head; she seemed to be in her forties but still held her beauty. She had long dark hair that complemented her dark eyes.
Beside her was Aegon V; he was tall and slender, with his silver-gold hair coming down to his shoulders and his deep, dark purple eyes that looked like they were deep blue.
Betha quickly walked toward her daughter's side as she said, "No need to stand, dearest. You need to rest as much as possible."
She held her daughter by her shoulders and made her sit back in her chair.
Aegon looked at his two grandchildren; his eyes glinted with anticipation and disappointment when he looked at Aerys.
'He couldn't hatch the egg, huh?' he thought to himself.
Aerys, noticing his grandfather's looks, quickly understood what he was thinking, but stayed silent. He can't do anything about it now and decides to deal with it later.
Aegon then turned toward his granddaughter; his eyes softened when he looked at her as he asked, "What's her name?"
Betha, too, turned to her daughter, her eyes shining as she waited for her response.
"Her name is Rhaella," Shaera answered, to which the monarchs nodded their heads.
Bethany walked toward the bed and sat beside her granddaughter; she lifted Rhaella into her arms, observing her as she said, "She has Jaehaerys's nose."
Aerys watched with intent as his mother nodded her head with a small smile.
He stayed silent to let Betha take a good look at her granddaughter. Betha played with Rhaella for a few minutes before turning toward her grandson. "Oh! Aerys seems to like his little sister!"
Aerys smiled as he hugged Betha. "Grandma!" he called out while Betha laughed.
Shaera smiled when she saw this and said, "I think Aerys likes her a lot. If not for me, he would stick to his sister day and night."
'Of course, she is going to be my wife!' Aerys thought inwardly while Betha asked, "Really? Aerys, do you like your new sister?"
"Yes! She's cute!" Aerys answered as he nodded his head, which made the three to chuckle.
Betha smiled as she kissed him on the cheek and added, "Yes, my grandchildren are the cutest!"
Aerys giggled as his grandmother smothered him with kisses. But then, Aerys suddenly stopped giggling and pouted at his grandmother.
Betha tilted her head in confusion and with a smile tugging at her lips, she asked, "What happened. My sweetest?"
Aerys pursed his lips for a moment before he said, "Grandma doesn't play with me…."
Betha and Shaera were dumbfounded by his words for a moment before they let out a laugh.
Aegon looked at his grandson curiously, his disappointment from before fading away.
"I am sorry, my sweet child. Grandma is the Queen, so she has a lot of work," Vatha said as she kissed his cheek. "Tell you what, whenever I have free time, I will come to play with you, okay?"
Aerys stared at his grandmother for a moment before he nodded his head, "Mm-hm."
The group chatted lightly, with Shaera and Batha talking to each other and Aegon chiming in once in a while.
A smile stayed on Aerys's face as he looked at the scene, 'This is my family!' he muttered inwardly; of course, his two uncles and aunt weren't there, but still, 'I will protect them and lift the house from the ashes!'
Just as Aerys swore inwardly, the door to the room opened once again, and a small man walked inside.
The man was short but had a well-built body. He had silver-gold hair and purple eyes, traits of a Targaryen, dressed in regal clothes and a playful smile adorning his face; he looked like a charming yet playful prince, ready to swoop maidens away with his charm.
Aegon's smile vanished when he looked at the man and the woman behind him, while Aerys's eyes lit up and his smile widened as he called out, "Uncle Duncan!"
