All right, listen, I don't wanna hear it, okay?! Nooo! What do you mean boys shouldn't be afraid of the dark? Ahaha, that's where I got you. I'm a girl now! So my fear is one thousand percent excused. What was that? Oh yeah, you mean I claim to be a previous man when it's convenient? What are you talking about? I have never done that or would do that. I don't know what you're on about.
Tonight, my parents were at it again; just out of curiosity this time, though, I tried going to peep on them, but it was then that I realized I was utterly terrified by the dark. It's too mysterious, too scary, cut me a break, will you?! Just because I know there's nothing there doesn't mean I just stop feeling spine chills.
Nevertheless, I made some new exciting discoveries with Master today as well. Turns out the appraisal skill is considered top tier and basically impossible to max out. It's said that the people who have appraisal maxed out on this world can be counted on 2 hands, not including the gods, of course, because they can do everything.
Turns out, though, I might possess one of the most broken skills in the whole world, but there is one downside to the appraisal that I must tell you about right now: every time I use it, my head hurts; after the 3rd use I just get a headache, maybe it's because I didn't work for this skill so, my body is punishing me for using a high caliber skill that I didn't really work for, dam it!.
Returning to my fear of the dark, I have been paying attention to this world and its ancient style of doing stuff. They don't even have hand-held candle holders and talk about not having the basics. I'm talking the very basics here: no pulleys or knowledge of levers either. I thought for sure they knew about them since they do have wheels, but no, I haven't seen a single of those things. So, since I'm about to become 9, I have to start thinking about my future. Fast, since this is a very small town, even if I get trained by a professional mage who teaches me how to write and read, at age 15, I will have to find my path or have a plan since that's the majority age here, so I got 6 years until adulthood, dad, of course, says I can stay home until he finds me a good man. Still, I'm not fond of the idea.
I have to become someone like an inventor to attract the attention of some noble who will sponsor me. However, using my knowledge of modern human inventions that weren't my ideas feels cheap. Still, oh well, in this world, someone will eventually discover these inventions sooner or later. What's a little head start going to affect, uh?!.
I woke up the next day after going through all those thoughts last night, and then in the middle of the lesson, I started a conversation with my Master just so I could start my plagiarism. I'm so sorry, Mr. Sicilian inventor, I'm so sorry!!.
- Master Ron, can I ask you a question?
- yes, you may, sweet Yui.
- Do philosophers exist? Is that like a real job?
- Oh, yes, of course, where did you hear that?
- I read it in a book.
- if you read it in a book, why did you ask me? You know books don't lie.
- I just wanted to be sure, because I want to be one of them!
My Master couldn't hold back a little giggle after I said that it did make sense, though, since I'm a girl and all, especially in this kingdom where the old matriarchy was taken down by force, the thought of any female being a philosopher would be preposterous.
- You know you can't, Yui. I'm sorry, but you're a girl.
- and what? I'm also smart. You're well aware of it.
- that is true.
- at least follow me to the water well. I want to show you something.
Intrigued by my arguing, Master, with a great deal of patience, stood up and followed me to the water well in the house's backyard. I proceeded to show him the improvised pulley I had been working on for several days prior, which was very rustic as it was a wooden one made with low-level carving magic and some actual hand carving. I then installed the pulley up to a stick above the well, later putting the bucket rope on it. The last step was simple. I simply proceeded to load the bucket with water from the bottom of the well to then easily pull it up with the help of the pulley!
- Impressive, you know. I have seen this before, not long ago.
- what?
- yeah, I have seen it in the research institute of Enginheim. I'm amazed at the fact that you came up with this. Goddam, I have been fighting with the facts about you, but you're truly above my league already in intelligence.
- oh please, Master, don't be so humble!- it is true, though, soon, there will be little I can keep teaching you, and it has only taken you about 4 years. It took me nearly 20. Once you surpass me, though, please do me a favor and don't forget about this old man, okay?
I just giggled at his request, and at the same time, he just laughed back at me, and then we just continued with the magic lessons for the rest of the evening.
