Adam stood before the flourishing garden filled with beautiful flowers from all over the world. Colors so vibrant giving a sense of warmth in the environment. He walked down the lush grass and found his eyes softening when he found Eve's favorite flower: Marigold.
He remembered a time they were travelling and had pulled over the side of the road to look at the fields of marigolds. Eve looked beautiful surrounded by the flowers, as if it were only her that they bloomed for.
Letting out a short laugh, he touched the soft petals of gold before pulling away.
Crossing his arms and closing his eyes, he wondered where Gabriel was. He wanted to ask him about the mysterious angel who was causing trouble. The question was why was this angel involved? Did Father know about this? Was this the plan?
Deciding to himself, he headed over to the palace where the highest level rested their Father, their holiness. Nodding and greeting his brothers as they passed him, he headed through the large golden arches. Adam walked down the white marbled floors, pristine as it reflected the glass chandeliers above.
His footsteps echoed as he continued up the curved stairs adorned in golden swirls and designs. Adam thought about the agreement and wondered if one of his brothers, his fellow angels, were upset. Did someone decide to stop the agreement? Were they angry that Father agreed to work with the demons?
He needed answers. Eve needed answers.
When he arrived at the door of his Father, he could feel his heart shaking from anxiety and nervousness. Taking deep breaths to calm himself down, he recited what he wanted to ask in his head clenching and unclenching his hands. When he felt ready, he let out a deep breath and knocked.
Adam stood there for a moment before knocking once more.
He heard footsteps nearing the door and he stood taller ready to face his Father. The door opened to reveal Michael: God's best warrior.
"Adam," his voice was a deep baritone that he could hear vibrating against his ears.
"Brother Michael," he bowed to the righteous angel, "I would like to speak with Father."
He stood up to see Michael staring at him with cryptic hazel eyes piercing him in his spot. A beat, two beats and the door opened wider as the warrior angel stepped to the side. Adam looked to the center to see him, his creator.
Reminding himself of the reason he was going to confront his Father to ease his nerves, he inhaled and exhaled slowly. Step after step he took nearing the ethereal being, he paused two feet away. Falling to one knee and bending his head to bow, he greeted his Father.
"Father," Adam started, "Thank you for having time to speak with me."
"My child," voice fitting of a God spoke, "What is on your mind?"
Adam inhaled as he stood up, exhaled as he kept his eyes steady on his Father.
"There is a situation on Earth," he spoke in a straightforward tone and waited to see if He knew.
"A man was killed," God spoke and Adam nodded, "You wish to know why I have not interfere."
Adam furrowed his brows curving them to look like dips and valleys.
"I wish to know if you are aware of the culprit."
"The man was killed with a demon's weapon."
Adam found his eyes widening, "What do you mean, Father?"
"The sword of Samael's was used."
"Are you… certain?" Adam found himself questioning.
Was Eve wrong? Did she saw what she thought was an angel? Was she trying to pin him against his brothers?
'No, she wouldn't do that…' he told himself feeling less sure than when he walked into this space.
"You question our Father?" Michael stated holding an air of challenge.
"I am, Adam," his Father stated, "I am aware of trouble brewing."
Adam took in the information and wondered why they all have not been informed. Why haven't his Father done something about it? Why were they waiting?
"Then should we not-" Adam was interrupted by the rapping against the door.
Turning to look as Michael went to the door. The creaking of the door echoed loud as it opened to reveal the angel he was looking for: Gabriel. Gabriel was known to be bright, caring, and calm. However, the angel looked distraught, upset, and worried.
'What happened?' Adam wondered as his nerves shook.
"Father," his voice, once soft and calm, was now haggard and filled with worry, "The items are missing. Something is amiss!"
'Items?' Adam questioned as he thought about what they were.
"Be calm Gabriel, my child," their Father said in a soothing voice, "I have already been informed."
There was a quiet, a stillness in the air that made the hairs at the back of his neck stand. What did He mean when He said He had already been informed? Father knew about the missing items, the killing of a man, and have done nothing but sit in His throne in the sky?
He glanced at Gabriel to see his soft face set in stone.
"What is going on Father?" the Angel of Man questioned with his lips thinned, "Why have you not informed us?"
"I have my reasons," God stated as he stood, "Do not worry children. In time, everything will be revealed."
"Then you know," Gabriel folded his arms, "They wish to overthrow Morningstar."
A beat.
"I do."
"Someone is killing his demons."
"Mm."
"A war between the demons is likely to occur."
"State what you wish to know Gabriel," his Father stated.
A beat. Another beat. A third beat.
"You've been planning this. What is your endgame?" Gabriel stood tall waiting to hear what he already knew.
Adam was curious as he stepped to Gabriel and stood by his brother waiting for the response. This was their Father's plan? What was the plan? He was so confused.
"My endgame?" their Father smiled, "That is not my decision."
Adam found himself scowling as he fisted his hands. What did his Father mean by that?! He is so confused with this mind games that he was starting to feel the pounding of a hammer against his temples.
"Then whose?" Adam found himself asking.
"You already know who," Adam heard, and he felt his heart drop before speeding up like a losing race car.
"Eve."
