Chapter 26: Run

Dan gulped, fear running rampant through his mind. His chest ached and itched as Lang worked to heal him while he hid.

It would take at least an hour to fully heal and healing required large amounts of energy.

Fortunately, he had put on some weight in these last few weeks otherwise, this healing would leave him dead due to using up all the energy on his body.

But thanks to that extra few kilograms of weight, he wouldn't have to fear dying just yet.

Dan stifled the groans that threatened to leave his mouth due to the pain. His vision was blurred and his head spun due to the concussion.

The human-like beast's footsteps arrived near Dan and stopped.

"Come out. I know you are hiding here. "A husky male voice said causing Dan to almost cry out in surprise.

"It's a fucking man. "Dan thought as he stayed in the same position.

"Hiding is futile. We are in the wild. Staying here would mean certain death. So come out. "The voice returned, urging Dan.

Dan hesitated, not sure who the man might be. He could be one of the kidnappers. It was almost a certainty.

But what he said was true too. The fire was burning hotter and in a bit, it would reach where Dan was hiding if no rain came. So, staying here meant certain death. But leaving this ship also meant certain death. The cries of beasts were still reaching here but now there was no cries of human. They were all dead. Probably the people from the lower levels of the ship who had survived but no they were dead.

Wild wasn't a place where non-metahumans like Dan had a chance of surviving.

But revealing himself had its dangers too. Who knew what intentions that this man had? And there was a high chance that this man was a metahuman considering that he had survived the crash.

But staying put wasn't a great choice either. The man had already discovered him.

Dan sighed and then yelped due to the pain. He then slowly stood up trying not to make sudden moves.

The man watched as Dan poked his head out and revealed his body.

And as Dan scrutinized the man too, he realized rather than a man, he was a kid with a muscular body. His face was immature with fatty cheeks and no facial hair. He was bald too.

"Were you kidnapped too? "The boy asked Dan as Dan got out of his hiding spot.

The question stunned Dan as he realized that this kid was a victim of kidnapping just like him and had probably been put in a room beside him.

Dan nodded and slowly approached the boy with very cautious steps. He wasn't in the state to fight and his wrists were hurting too because of the ropes that had been used to bind him, which he seemed to have broken free of during the crash.

"Ah. Then we should leave. The ship will attract monsters." The boy said as he started walking away from the fire and the ship.

Dan followed behind and said, "Monsters have already been attracted and anyone that survived in that part of the ship is dead. "

Dan pointed behind him as the boy turned to him.

And then suddenly a screech of a monster reverberated. Dan's eyes widened because of the proximity of the sound. The beast was way closer than the first time he had heard the sound.

"Run. "The muscular boy said as he started running in the opposite direction of the sound.

Dan too started running, trying not to cry out despite the pain. He was disoriented but fortunately, he had a target to follow.

They ran through the wreckage but the cries of the monster got near like it knew where they were.

They ran through the wreckage, trying not to get lost in the thick smoke from the fire behind them. And a bit of running later, the area covered by smoke was finished and they could finally see where they were.

Dan gasped, his head spinning as he saw a humongous forest with trees so big that he looked like he was an ant looking up at a tree.

Even the leaves on the ground were so big that Dan had to walk around them so that he wouldn't be stopped.

Dan's eyes followed the muscular boy as the screech of the monster got closer but he could also hear the cry of a human behind him.

"There's another survivor. "He thought but he didn't stop for a second. The horrifying creatures of the wild were not something that a person could see and remain alive to tell the tale. Dan knew their horror just from watching videos on the internet and didn't wish to experience it live.

"Hey, here. "Dan heard the voice of the Muscular boy call out to him. Dan searched for him and saw the boy waving his hand from a small hole in one of the humongous trees to his left. Dan wasted no time thinking and started running towards him.

As he approached the hole, the sound got nearer causing Dan to run with all his might despite the pain and lack of air in his lungs.

He flung himself through the hole and entered inside as the boy put himself out of the way. He landed on the ground and rolled once to cushion the impact. But even the cushioning didn't help as the pain flared up once again.

But he still stood up. It was a critical time and he couldn't rest just yet.

Dan stood beside the muscular boy and the sheer size of his muscles surprised him. He was incredibly wide and tall, at least 6 feet.

And compared to Dan who was just 5'4", he was a tower.

Dan turned his head away from the boy and looked outside to see a big cloud of smoke covering the ship while it burned furiously.

Then came a cry of a girl and from the cloud of smoke, a girl with short black hair and wearing blue jeans and a green top revealed herself while running with full strength. There was a small piece of metal shaped like a sword in her hand which she grasped tightly while running.

Dan turned to the boy beside him and saw him watching the girl with a blank face like he didn't care about her fate.

But Dan did. So, he poked his head out of the hole which was a metre wide and waved his hands, trying to get her attention.
