Dan sat on the bed, hand on his chin, deep in thought.
Whatever he was experiencing was one of the most absurd things he had ever of. He had only heard of it happening in movies back in his world. A man sleeping in his house had woken up in a completely different room in a completely different body in a completely different world with a new set of memories in his head of a kid named Ian.
Ian was a fourteen-year-old boy living with his parents in a city called Zyron. But that wasn't the most significant piece of information that the new set of memories contained. It was that the present year wasn't 2092 AD which was the current year in Dan's previous world but 2068 A.D which meant that he had travelled back in time. Or so he thought but after some more digging on Ian's memories, Dan realized that this world wasn't even remotely similar to Dan's Earth. It was a new world.
Here, the technology wasn't as advanced, the sole reason being The Monsters. Where did they come from? They were here all along.
It was the year 2029 AD. One day, suddenly, every animal and plant experienced a sudden growth. The plants grew to double or triple their size but their growth didn't affect the human population as a whole except for some light destruction of buildings and roads.
The real destruction came from the growth of animals. Ten feet tall elephants were scary but a hundred feet one was a nightmare. And that was what happened. Every nightmare became a reality. Zoo animals grew ten or even twenty times their size and just as much in aggression.
They feared no small human weapons and only weapons of mass destruction could kill these animals. Deaths increased in numbers as the forest became too small for the oversized animals. So they started entering cities causing massive destruction.
Casualties mounted and safe areas shrunk causing humans to live in walled cities while the abandoned cities were reclaimed by nature.
And now, 39 years later, the world was almost the same with only a bit of technological advancements and a slight increase in the human population.
And after learning all of this, Dan was contemplating whether he was in a virtual reality world or not. But his brain had been stuffed with memories which weren't possible even in Dan's previous world so, that was very unlikely. And Dan was back to square one with absolutely no fucking idea what was happening and why it was happening.
"Ian. Dinner's getting cold. "The soft female voice returned but this time it was a bit stern which Dan now recognized as Ian's mother, Emma.
And now a problem presented itself to Dan. Talking to Ian's parents as their child while being a fucking 36 years old man. He was probably the same age as them.
"Fuck your mother whoever is responsible for this. "Dan cursed and got up from the bed. His eyes met with a boy who he now could identify as himself.
Dan glanced below at the small table with a laptop on top. The laptop had a brand name that Dan did not recognize and it looked old as fuck. He used to be a gamer and now his equipment was this. He didn't even want to imagine the specs.
"It probably has eight cores or something like that. "Dan thought and turned away from the shitty-looking laptop with the computing power of his watch.
The room of his predecessor looked as boring as his face. No decorations on the wall and funny-looking figurines made it even more boring. The walls were plain white and a three-handed piece of metal hung on the ceiling. But as he stared at it, he realized it was something called a fan, an antique piece of electronic equipment.
"Fascinating. "Dan muttered and tore his gaze away from the fan.
Dan then reluctantly opened the door and walked outside. He had stalled for as long as he could. It was time to face Ian's parents with a small hope that it would go smoothly.
