Chapter 5: Being From Another World Has It's Setbacks

"Still, this town sure is huge!"

I said with a wide smile filled with childlike wonder.

The same kind of feeling I had gotten when I visited Paris a couple of years back filled me. It's quite overwhelming when you're used to a mid-sized town and then suddenly travel to a metropolis.

This wasn't quite the same size as Paris from what I could see, though. If I were to compare it to a 'real life' town, I would say it's similar to Stockholm; Without everything being on islands that is.

Maira, as I painfully had to call her, commented

"Of course it is! It is the biggest city in this province after all."

I looked at Maira with an intrigued facial expression and asked

"Really? Could you tell me some more about the town?"

Maira got confused and looked at me, after a couple of seconds, she decided to say

"What do you mean? Don't you know anything about this town, aren't you from here?"

- Problem encountered… What the hell do I say here? I guess I should just say some general direction. -

I laughed lightly and said

"No, We are from the East. We have some business in the capital, so we're currently traveling."

- And this is where my luck and reasonable geography skills come in.

If my hunch is correct, the capital should be to the north-west of the country.

The reason I guess that's the case is that that's the strategically best position to situate your capital in war times like these. If it's too close to the neighboring countries, then it's easy for them to conquer it and pretty much win the war that way.

I'm also guessing that the capital isn't here in the south-west, considering that Koraen already is here. It isn't too clever to situate big cities that close to each other.

But that's just what I guess at least, I mean the aforementioned capital of France is somewhat close to Germany; The country they were in two world wars against.

But that's due to historical and cultural reasons, so who knows if the same thing goes for this country. -

Maira looked at me in suspicion for a couple of seconds, I instantly broke into cold sweat.

-Damnit! I was probably wrong! Damn it all, reasonable geography skills won't get you far I guess. -

Maira opened her mouth slowly and uttered

"East, huh… so you're from something like 'Irasu'?"

I smiled and decided to make my claim even more believable and said

"No, even more East."

Maira thought for a second and then said

"Even more East!? So you're from 'Higashi'?"

I smiled warmly and said

"Bingo!"

Maira thought internally for a second and decided to question my methods

"Why couldn't you just say where you are from?"

- Damn, this sure was a sharp 12-year old.

But worry not, The Girl! I see your worried gaze, gazing through my soul in a weirdly uncomfortable sense. Because I have studied the ways of 'Improv Bullshit'! No seriously, my mom once bought me a book titled 'Improv Bullshit; How to get out of any shitty situation'. She laughed at me when I opened the gift, but jokes on her!

Now I know how to get out of this situation! -

The uncomfortable gaze was still pointed right at my soul, almost making all of my Souls coins pour out.

But still, one has to wonder if they have banks up in heaven where you have to open an account to put in Soul Coins. I mean they have companies up there for heaven's sake.

I made a wink directed at myself after that masterful pun.

But that's not how The Girl saw it, mostly because she couldn't read my thoughts; Thankfully.

She started blushing a bit and reached around Maira's back to pinch my neck. I instantly pulled away and made a confused gesture directed at The Girl. The Girl then returned to her gazing at me.

I just shook my head and answered Maira

"I was just testing your geography skills, of course. Still, I'm surprised you know so much Geography at the young age of twelve!"

Maira once again stared at me in confusion, she then said

"What are you talking about? I'm 14 years old, almost 15 actually."

My jaw got dislocated in a matter of seconds, quite impressive to be honest.

"You're WHAT?" both The Girl and I shouted out in unison after the revelation.

Maira turned her head to the left, then to the right and did that motion for a couple of turns and then innocently said

"What? Isn't that obvious?"

I instantly stopped in my tracks and rethought life for a couple of seconds

-I mean, am I in the wrong here?

Was I supposed to be able to see that?

I almost feel guilty now…

Or not! How the hell am I supposed to know that when she looks like she a damn 5th-grader!-

"NO! No, it isn't! You look like a 5th-grader for crying out loud." I instantly said.

Maira instantly shouted

"Shut up!" and threw a slap directed at my face.

But considering that she was almost more than one head shorter than me, her slap landed on my right shoulder with an underwhelming

*slap* sound.

Silence surrounded the three of us, as we all stared silently at my right shoulder: The victim of the 'brutal' attack that just occurred.

I was the first one to break the silence with a quick smile and a quick

"Puh..."

Maira's face got redder and redder until her whole face screamed 'Tomato...'.

"Curse you!" Maira screamed out, all embarrassed. She ran up to me and slammed her fists at my stomach in a light barrage of attacks. The Girl also decided to break her silence with a laugh, I followed with a full-on laughter attack.

Maira got some small tears in her eyes and screamed

"Shut up! Shut up both of you!"

After 20 minutes of walking, we finally arrived at the top of the hill.

Standing before us was a giant building, in a strange architectural style that I hadn't seen before.

The outside had a bunch of what looked like 'malnourished skeletons'. I didn't think it was possible for a skeleton to be malnourished, but apparently, it is.

I looked at the pouting 14-year old next to me and decided to try and mend the situation by saying

"Hey, Maira. I'm sorry for the mental attack that was unleashed before. It was truly uncalled for, right? I'm truly sorry, it wasn't really my intention to hurt your feelings."

Maira slowly started looking down at the ground and said quietly

"Fine, but you better not do something like that again..."

I chuckled a bit and said

"I'll take that!"

I then turned to the other girl in my presence, appropriately named The Girl, and screamed

"And you, The Girl, Screw you!"

The Girl was pulled back by the sudden attack and instantly screamed back

"What was that for!? I haven't even done anything, have I!?"

I yelled back

"I know! I just had the strange urge to yell that!"

The Girl stared at me for a couple of seconds before screaming back

"That's really strange! But, OK, I can understand that on some level!"

I also yelled

"Great! Thank you for understanding my pain for once!"

The Girl smiled and responded, by screaming of course

"Sure! But tell me… Why are we still screaming!?"

I laughed out loud and said

"Just feels right in this situation!"

Maira had been building up some anger during the whole strange exchange and suddenly burst out with

"Just shut up! Let's just go in already!"

I laughed and said

"Looks like you joined the club!"

But Maira didn't respond, not with words at least. She simply turned around and formed a fist.

I just threw up my hands up in the air and said

"I get it."

We all entered the building one after one, after walking a couple of meters: A woman in her 30s approached us and said

"Welcome to the 'Godly and Goldy' Guild. How may I help you?"

I leaned over to The Girl and commented

"Yo, I'm pretty sure one of those words isn't even real."

The Girl just icily glared into my eyes and said

"Shut up, behave a bit."

Once again, I threw up my hands into the air and turned to face the female attendant. I then proceeded with

"Good evening, I and my friend over here would like to register for the guild. Also, we have a lost girl here who is looking for her dad who apparently works here."

The woman turned to her colleague and made some weird hand sign. Instantly, the colleague approached the little girl and asked her to follow her.

Before disappearing from our field of vision, Maira said

"See you later then!"

The Girl waved her hand at The Little Girl.

- She almost looks like her elder sister now, how sweet.

But wait, that's impossible;

BECAUSE APPARENTLY SHE IS 14 YEARS OLD, IT'S SO IMPOSSIBLE THAT I DON'T EVEN KNOW ANYMORE!

Whew, almost lost my cool there.

No, I definitely lost my cool there.

Although if we're being honest here, she could probably still be her elder sister despite that.

But I can't be sure since I don't know how old the Girl is.

I swear to god, next thing I know, she'll reveal that she's actually twelve years old despite her looking like a girl of high school age. -

The woman who was attending us turned towards us once again and proceeded to say

"Well then, we handle registrations over here. Please follow me."

I smiled and reached my hand out as to say 'lead the way', but that was misunderstood as she grabbed my hand and dragged me to the spot she was talking about.

I looked at our conjoined hands with a puzzled look.

Never in my life had I held a woman's hand, that wasn't in my family that is.

But considering the situation I was put in right then, I had no pleasure derived from it.

Not that I probably would have gotten any in a 'normal' situation.

The Girl tagged along by half-sprinting besides us, she was staring at the conjoined hands with the same puzzled look that I had. She then looked at me with a slightly irritated expression, I made a gesture and said quietly

"I know right? Super weird."

The Girl sighed and sprinted past me and to the side of the woman. I simply shrugged and zoned out, thinking about all the Anime that I was going to miss. A small, but significant, tear rolled down my left cheek at the thought of it.

We then arrived at the desk, where the woman let go of my hand and went around to the other side of the desk.

Another one of the woman's colleagues led The Girl to a desk neighboring ours.

The woman started talking

"Before we get down to business, I am inquired to tell you a bit about our guild and how it works, does that work for you?"

I simply nodded to show my understanding. Although I was contemplating saying something, in case my gesture was misunderstood once again. The woman seemed to understand that at least and continued to speak

"Well then, I shall start explaining then.

The Godly and Goldy Guild was created about 14 years ago by the Chosen Empire defect General Torishi Jakku in pursuit of a space where adventurers of all different classes could gather and have a grand time together and go on adventures.

The classes range from Wood-level up to Emerald-level, with Wood being the lowest.

We are estimated to currently be the biggest guild in Ouest Heskia, although there's no proper way to measure that.

Upon entering, you have to pay an entrance fee of around 4 Pamau. There's also a 3% fee that the guild takes for every mission you complete.

Moving onto the missions, they're set up on the main board in the front every morning at 6 AM. Every mission has a 'recommended' level, but unlike other guilds, you can actually accept missions that have higher recommended levels than your current level: but with conditions of course. You're able to accept any mission that's a maximum of 2 levels higher of you.

So for Wood adventurers, you're able to accept missions up to Iron-level.

That's pretty much it for the very basic explanation.

I'm sorry for it being lengthy, if you have any questions, please do ask me."

After letting the information settle in, I shook my head to indicate that I didn't have any questions. The woman then nodded and said

"Well then, I do ask that you pay the entrance fee before we start filling out your application."

I suddenly started sweating

- I don't have any money! This is quite a problem… About that, do we even have our belongings from our previous life? I didn't think to check before… -

I looked over to my left and said

"Ey, The Girl! Do you have your belongings left? You know, like your cell phone, wallet or anything?"

The Girl shook her head and had the same terrified face that I was displaying.

I turned my head towards the woman at the desk to try and figure out a solution, but I was met with the same terrified face staring at me.

-What? -

She then looked behind me and did some weird gestures once again.

I looked at the woman in a puzzled state, but that staring didn't last too long.

Since after a couple of seconds, I was suddenly dragged away by some guards.

"What!?"

I let out before they silenced me by placing a towel in front of my mouth.

I was violently thrust onto a chair in some cold room.

The whole room seemed to be made out of iron.

The woman from the desk suddenly walked through the door, with two guards by her side.

They were holding The Girl and threw her onto a chair in a similar fashion to what they did with me.

The woman suddenly approached me and yelled

"How do you know about that?"

I was at a loss for words, I had no clue as to what she was referring to. I said

"What the hell are you talking about!?"

The woman grew visibly frustrated and said

"Don't act innocent, tell me how you know about it? Are you a spy!?"

I was suddenly drawn back out of surprised and instantly said

"I honestly have no clue what you're talking about!"

The woman viciously smiled and said

"Oh really!? Does this refresh your memory?"

She grabbed a stack of papers and threw them onto the table next to us.

Out of a desire to know what the hell she was talking about, I slowly moved my gaze to the stack of papers and checked out what it said.

The line that was proudly stated on the first page was

"Project Cellular Telephone."

CREATORS' THOUGHTS
Orange_Omega Orange_Omega

Whew! I'm back!

Feels like it was quite some time since I wrote something for this story, but I'm finally back, just like I'm back with my other story as well.

Honestly, it feels like every time I write something for this series, it just gets weirder and weirder. This is no exception. Not that I dislike it though...

Well, see you next chapter then!

And yes, "I laughed out loud and said" is as bad as you think.
