"Sit down here. It's time for you to become a proper Spirit Emperor, grandpa."
Al grinned as he walked to old Jack's back, and placed his hands on his back.
"Are you ready? This won't hurt, but it will feel really uncomfortable."
What he was about to do, was a method which he had already confirmed the usage of with Ella. Of course, there were certain conditions to be met, and there were certain disadvantages too, but compared to the result, those were quite inconsequential.
"Uh…yes?"
Old Jack replied unsurely, and the next moment…
"Ooof!"
His body stiffened and shuddered as he felt as though an explosion happened inside him.
'The first thing to do is make his Soul Ring…'
Yes, 'make' his Soul Ring. Considering the rather ridiculous Soul Ring configuration that old Jack had, the obvious choice for the sixth Soul Ring would be a 100,000+ year old one. But 100,000 year old Soul Rings, especially for plant spirits, are really, really rare. Almost impossible to find, in fact.
And it isn't simply because plant Soul Beasts are normally weak, and hence, never live up to 100,000 years before they are killed for their medicinal properties, but also because, those that did survive, are usually the ones that are experts at hiding.
Besides, making a custom Soul Ring practically guaranteed near-perfect compatibility between the Spirit Skill and the Spirit, so it was a win-win in all cases.
"Ai dear, help me out please."
"Yes! Papa!"
Ai perked up as she heard her papa ask for help. She quickly skipped forward on her tiny little feet, her face having an expression which said she was ready to do anything for him.
But then, as she approached him, she paused as an adorable, clueless expression appeared on her face.
"Um…papa, what should I do?"
"…"
'So cute.'
Her cuteness almost distracted Al from his work, nearly making old Jack's heart skip a beat as his intuition told him he just barely missed a greeting with death. Gulping fearfully, he put the thought aside as he tried his best to keep the overflowing life force being pumped into his body inside, and use his Spirit Power to force it to flow along his entire body.
"Come here my little cutie."
Ai blinked her big eyes as she approached her papa, who began explaining what she must do.
"See this grandpa here? He's my grandpa, which makes him your great-grandpa."
"Oh, hello, great-grandpa! Nice to meet you, Ai is Ai, papa's daughter!"
Ai still recalled how her papa had told her introducing herself to those she met for the first time was important. Since she was a good little daughter, she had to follow her papa's words, right?
"O-oh…hello dear, you can simply call me grandpa Jack like everyone else does."
"Oh! Then, nice to meet you grandpa Jack!"
Al smiled at the scene before him, almost forgetting to keep his work going.
"Right, Ai, what I want you to do is…"
What happened next was Al explaining a bunch of boring information to Ai, which made her cute head soon in confusion. Sighing, he instead gave each and every instruction as concisely as he could, making Ai nod her head seriously.
"Don't worry papa! I will do it!"
"Yes, I believe in you, Ai."
He smiled as Ai got to work, his soul quivering as parts of it split off, the missing parts recovering to completeness in but an instant, as the broken parts coalesced into pure Soul Essence.
Combining it with large amounts of Spirit Power, and adding even more Life Force to mix just because he could, Al sent the large sphere of currently serene, yet extremely dangerous and volatile mixture of energies to his daughter, who promptly opened her mouth and…
*gulp*
Gulped it down, as though it wasn't a pokeball sized nuclear warhead.
"Yummy! Papa, can you give me more like this later?"
"Of course darling, anything you want."
"…"
Old Jack felt speechless as the father-daughter duo behind him were talking like he wasn't about to lose control and end up dead from having too much life. The irony.
Ai nodded cutely, before her face took on an adorably serious and cutely solemn look, warming Al's heart in the process.
"Eiii!"
Her cute shout was followed by billowing waves of Spirit Power and loads of other things Al couldn't make heads or tails of at the moment, and soon, a bright yet illusory crimson ring appeared before her.
"Grandpa, you ready?"
"Yes."
Old Jack nodded seriously as he closed his eyes and prepared to make history with his grandson.
And so…
"Well, here goes nothing."
…the first artificial Soul Ring, which would later bring about an unbelievable era to the world of Douluo Dalu, this occurred, the historical event being done by an old Spirit King stepping into the ranks of Spirit Emperors, his young 6+ year old grandson, and said grandson's pseudo-Spirit daughter.
((Somehow I have this feeling I am being ignored even though I'm doing most of the complicated work keeping these reckless idiots alive…or rather, how come I didn't get any lines this chapter?))
Ah, yeah, sorry, I kinda forgot about you for a moment.
Oops.
