Chapter 21: XXII

The following morning I let out a groan at the added weight on my chest. What the? I look down and see Darren and I remember what happened. Akele...

I stroked Darren's hair, hearing him groan and watching him wake up.

"Kal? So last night wasn't a dream."

I shake my head watching him then I checked the time, "It's twelve now. I have breakfast sandwiches from yesterday. It's room temperature."

"As a college student, I don't judge where foods been. Share it." He said making a grabbing motion making me laugh. I grab my lunchbox and toss it onto the bed, "Thank you." he said grabbing a couple of sandwiches. I nodded and took some sandwiches.

We ate in silence until I broke it, "I have some clothes you can wear. If you wear a medium that is." he nodded.

"Yea I do." I nodded getting up to go look for some clothes for him to wear. Pulling out dark gray sweatpants and a gray t-shirt.

"These should be good. You know where the bathroom is you can use it when you're ready." he nodded as finished eating.

"Thank you, Kal," he said grabbing the clothes from me.

"Heres some lotion so you aren't ashy." I joked and he smiled lightly as he caught the lotion and walked out of my room to the bathroom. My poor baby. I should look for clothes to wear.

I get up and looked for something to wear when Darren called me, "Kal can you help me with the shower."

"Coming!" I leave my room and enter the bathroom, Darren was shirtless, but he had his pants on and I felt blood rush to my face as I struggled to turn on the shower. With one final grunt, I got the shower going, "Sorry about that, it gets stuck sometimes." I said turning around to look at him, I was trying to avoid looking at his exposed chest.

"Thanks for helping me." I waved him off as I turned to the door to head back to my room. Looking in my closet I found a dark gray thin strap jumpsuit. I noticed a black leather jacket out the corner of my eye and shrugged.

"Kal I left the lotion in the bathroom for when you're done," Darren said as he came into my room. The shirt fit him like a glove and I couldn't help but stare at him before shaking my head and grabbing my clothes to shower. Why does he always have to look so good? I pouted as I walked into the bathroom.

I showered and changed then walked back into my room to see Darren holding my scrapbook. Thank Goddess that hid away my notebook. Darren looked up before closing the scrapbook, "Sorry I shouldn't have looked through without your permission, I just got curious."

"It's just my scrapbook, don't worry. Let me grab some candles and we can go to his memorial."

Darren opened his mouth like he was going to say something but then closed it, only nodding in agreement instead. We left my room and out of my house to his car. I texted my parents to let them know where I was going.

Darren took off after I sent the message. I looked over at him, his jaw was clenched and his grip on the steering wheel was tight. I slowly tiptoed my left hand toward his right hand and intertwined our fingers together.

He squeezed my hand tightly and brought our joint hands to his lips, placed kisses to the back of my hand, and rested the back of my hand on his cheek. His grip loosened greatly on the steering wheel as we continued driving to the memorial.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Darren and I were still holding hands as we walked to his house. Darren was holding my hand tightly as we walked up the parking lot of his home (it's apartments with a designated parking lot for the residents, with a bench in the middle of a brick wall.) (A/N: My description might be a little ass. I am so sorry.)
I'll be real honest I was never close with Akele like Darren and some of the other people from school, but he was a junior I respected. He was a great role model for his younger brother and younger student, you could always hear his laugh from across the school and you could always hear a staff remember yelling at him to go back to class, he was literally going to graduate right after my class...he was working so hard to get his family out and whoever did this took that away. They fucking took Akele away.
I'm pulled out from my thoughts when a tight squeeze on my left hand grounded me. My eyes widen at the two women in front of me. Akele's mom and girlfriend.
"I'm so sorry." I immediately blurt out.
"Thank you." His mother said weakly, " And thank you for coming."
"I just want to be as supportive and helpful in any way I can for anyone who needs it." I glanced at Darren from the corner of my eye as I felt his grip tighten slightly.
"Thank you." His mother said as she walked away from the three of us.
"Thank you for coming Kal and Darren. I know Akele would've been happy to have you guys here and dating nonetheless." Amelie said glancing at our intertwined hands with a small smile, "Akele's always been rooting for the two of you to get together, I'm glad it happened." She said smiling brighter.
I couldn't help myself and pulled away from Darren and grabbed Amelie into a hug, "I am so fucking sorry."
"We almost made it. Please make it with Darren. Please." Amelie begged in my ear as I hugged her tightly. I only nodded at her request as we pulled away, "Thank you again, Kalina." I nodded as we pulled away and Darren took my left hand within his own once more.
Darren and I walked up to the brick wall and placed our respective candles on it and lit them before going back to the crowd of people to talk to our friends and just interact until it was time to release some balloons for Akele.
Akele's mother and brother sat on the bench as a new set of candles were lit up to spell his name out, we said a little prayer, and everyone started slowly going their separate ways, "Darren can we stay out together a little bit longer?" I didn't want to look up at Darren and I didn't have to.
He led me back to the car and when I buckled up he grabbed my hand once more, "We can spend as much time outside as you'd like." I could only smile and squeeze his hand as we took off to who knows where.
