Chapter 12: Chapter 11 James Conrad (Part 1)

"James Conrad, who are you?" His intense stare locked onto me, probing for answers.

I couldn't help but notice that ever since I met Izumi in the pocket dimension of the Dimensional Gap, there had been a persistent curiosity about my identity. It seemed as though they were determined to uncover my true intentions and discover if I harbored any hidden secrets.

"What are you, deaf? Can't answer a simple question," Hibiki shouted, his frustration evident.

"Of course not," I retorted, unable to hide my annoyance. What a jerk!

Still, as I pondered, I couldn't think of anything particularly special about myself. Not everything I had done in my entire life was something to be proud of.

FLASHBACK

I found myself in an abandoned building somewhere in town, a place where I enjoyed spending my time practicing parkour with my friends, leaping, and bounding from block to block.

One of my friends ran alongside me, leaping from balcony to balcony. We moved in sync, executing creative spins and flips with each jump.

"Heads up! Narrow wall incoming," he warned, backflipping gracefully from a balcony to the top of the wall.

"Awesoooome!" I exclaimed, filled with awe and excitement. Without hesitation, I sprinted towards the approaching wall, preparing myself for a powerful leap. With a burst of energy, I propelled myself into the air, executing an unbelievable flip at an incredible height. I achieve to land safely

"How's that?" I remarked, my voice tinged with victorious satisfaction.

SMACK

Before I knew it, he smacked my head, his frustration evident. "You idiot! You could have died if you messed things up there."

His words carried the weight of genuine concern, akin to that of a protective older brother. I couldn't blame him for his reaction; his concern stemmed from a deep sense of responsibility for my well-being.

I frowned, lowering my head in remorse. "I'm sorry, I just wanted to do what you do," I admitted, my voice tinged with regret.

"James, when it comes to parkour, there are always risks and dangers that you need to consider before attempting such stunts," he explained patiently. He went on to detail the potential dangers and consequences that parkour could pose to me, and I listened attentively, taking in every word.

"... Do you understand?" he said, his voice carrying a mix of concern and authority.

I nodded, acknowledging his scolding, realizing that he was right in his cautionary advice.

(SIGH) "Shall we grab some food on the way home?" he suggested, attempting to lighten the mood.

"Of course!" I exclaimed, my spirits instantly lifted. Food had a way of brightening my mood and bringing me joy.

"When it comes to food, you really perk up, don't you?" he teased, a hint of a smile playing on his lips, indicating that his anger had dissipated.

As we exited the abandoned building, our hunger took precedence. We decided to head to McDonald's, my favorite place to indulge in a satisfying meal.

Entering the familiar fast-food restaurant, the aroma of freshly cooked burgers and crispy fries greeted us, heightening our anticipation. We ordered our favorite items from the menu, savoring each moment as we waited for our food to arrive.

Finally, our trays were filled with mouthwatering burgers, golden fries, and refreshing drinks. With eager anticipation, we settled into our seats, ready to indulge in the delicious feast before us.

Biting into the juicy burger, the flavors exploded in my mouth, instantly satisfying my cravings. The crispy fries provided the perfect accompaniment, their saltiness complementing the meal. We relished each bite, enjoying the simple pleasure of good food and great company.

As we savored our meal, the tension of the previous moments melted away, replaced by contentment and a shared sense of enjoyment. McDonald's had always been a place of comfort and familiarity, a destination that never failed to bring a smile to my face.
