Chapter 13: Meeting

"So you share my concerns as well?" Sona murmured, sipping upon her coffee as to awaken her in the early hours of the morning. She may not be as deep a sleeper or as afflicted by the Sin of Sloth, but she was still a Devil.

Across from her, Rias nodded her head. "It's only natural. Kouh is becoming more dangerous. Ragnarök and its connection to Worm. The Fallen and the steady number of Exorcists arriving at the abandoned church. And now, the mysterious being calling himself Mikoto Hyoudou."

"Should we inform our siblings?" The question Sona posed made the room come to a standstill.

Members of the Student Council, individuals she had turned and invited into her Peerage becoming still. Even their respective Queens, Akeno Himejima and Tsubaki Shinra went still. After all, the siblings of the two Heiress's were Satan's, the leading figures for Devil Society and the rulers of Hell.

Rias shook her head after a moments pause. "We already told them about Ragnarök and Worm. They almost withdrew us from Kouh because of that alone. If we reveal everything else that's going on in Kouh then we won't be able to convince them to let us stay here any longer. I don't know about you, but I'm not ready or willing to return to Hell. Plus, I quite enjoy the human world."

Sona smiled slightly. "You like them because they're easily manipulated. Unlike Devils and other supernatural beings, they can't resist the Sins our presence invoke within them."

Rias waved it off, hardly perturbed by the truth of Sona's words. After all, Rias was no saint and while she pretended to be such a thing to the world, she was every bit as devilish as her nature would suggest. She was beautiful with a figure women would kill for, even some Devils as well. But above all else, as a Devil, she was a being of Sin. Humans when exposed to her, they felt the need to give in to the sin within them. It made them so easy to manipulate that it was amusing.

"What do you suggest we do then?" Sona asked, she had her own ideas but she would also like to gain the opinion of her fellow King. "We can't simply do nothing forever and we will eventually have to inform the Busujima Clan and the Tohsaka and Matou Families as to why we are not fulfilling our end of the bargain we struck."

The bargain they had struck was simple. The families would gain a great deal of monetary wealth and also, Rias, Sona and their respective Peerages would handle any supernatural force that entered within Kouh Town. In turn, they would not interfere with the Devils recruitment of humans into their Peerages and to keep any anti-supernatural forces from harming them.

Very simple and one that had been conducted professionally and effectively over the past few months. But the recent forces posed problems.

The Fallen were ways tricky to deal with because until their intentions were identified, attacking them could be cause for war to erupt. Though of course, Rias and Sona had the necessary ammunition to capture them considering they had entered into what was considered partly Devil owned territory without prior permission. Nor had they made any attempt to explain the reasoning behind their presence.

Ragnarök and its connection to Worm was another worrying problem. No one knew much about Worms intentions on the wider scale, but they had been involved in several minor conflicts and skirmishes with dozens of supernatural factions. Nothing too serious, but it was a powder keg waiting to explode and neither Rias nor Sona wanted to be the one to light the spark.

They were the two most worrying facets to the current situation in Kouh.

However, before Rias could respond, the door opened and in strode three figures. At the lead was a young, with a slender yet athletic frame. Her long black hair pulled into two pigtails with her aqua eyes studying the room.

Following dutifully behind her, head bowed low was a much bustier young woman with violet hair styled with two red ribbons.

To the left of the lead woman, head held high was perhaps the most beautiful woman of the three. More mature looking with a busty and curvaceous frame and thigh-length purple hair.

These three were Rin Tohsaka, Sakura Matou and Saeko Busujima.

"Rias, Sona." Rin greeted with a smile on her face. "I'm glad that you are both together. It saves me the bother of having to explain this twice."

As she said that, Rin took a seat at the table, Saeko and Sakura doing the same also. Both Sona and Rias sparing a glance at one another as they did.

"Rin, Saeko, Sakura, nice to see you. What brings you here?" Sona greeted with an equally fake smile upon her face as Rin's was. To call them friends would be a lie, neither Rin nor Sona got along very well.

Rias was prideful, but even she could admit that Sona was smarter than her. Sona had proven that intelligence many times in the past and out of their generation of Devils, Sona had no equal. Yet then she came to the human world and met Rin, a genius that rivalled herself, one that had actually beaten Sona in a chess match on numerous occasions. It was a blow to her pride and one that Sona had not taken well.

"A few things," Rin said, leg crossing over the other. "We are aware of the Fallen that have arrived and are a little concerned that you have done nothing to remove them."

"We are currently considering how to handle them. As I'm sure you are aware, the truce between the Three Factions is not exactly stable. Until we are aware of their intentions, we cannot act overtly." Rias explained simply.

"I see," Rin murmured. "Well, in the meantime, until the Fallen are taken care of, we have taken the Liberty of hiring protection from the Kure Clan. Until a point in which the Fallen are taken care of, they shall remain in Kouh for the foreseeable future."

Neither Rias nor Sona looked overly pleased by that. After all, the Kure Clan was one of the few factions of purely human forces that could pose a threat to a supernatural being like themselves. Their presence alone was a threat to them and both knew it.

"I see, well there is no need to worry, the Fallen shall be monitored heavily. We shall know of their movements before they can do anything damaging." Rin nodded her head in response to Sona's words. "Is that all?"

Rin looked to Saeko, an indication that she would be taking over from here. That was a good thing, Rin was quite politically astute whereas Saeko and Sakura were not. It made them the easiest to deal with.

"We would like for you to leave Mikoto Hyoudou alone," Saeko stated firmly and despite saying "we," it was obvious she really meant "I."

But that was not something they could just let go of easily. "He is an unknown individual who could pose a threat to us. We don't even know if he is who he claims to be. After all, Mikoto Hyoudou is supposed to be dead."

"I understand." Saeko acquiesced, but her eyes became firm and sharp. "However, you do not need to worry about him. I shall be dealing with him myself."

'There's a history there.' All in the Student Council Room concluded instantly. They couldn't tell what kind of history it was and they were curious to know what it was.

-X- Line Break -X-

Resting my feet up on the table, I frowned up at the ceiling. I don't know why, but for a while now I had been feeling a little shiver go up my spine. It felt like someone was talking about me, which I always thought was a lie made up, a superstitious saying.

I didn't really know what to think.

Though I suppose, that was becoming a common thing for me recently. I was an asshole, plain and simple. I'd always know that, but I never really thought of myself as the villain. But looking back at my actions, besides saving Rebecca back in the Inside and giving Issei a little bit of instruction, I hadn't really done anything good in my life.

I could blame it all on my need to survive, that I had to be cruel and monstrous to get stronger, but that's just a lie. It was an excuse I tell myself to feel better about all I had done.

Sure, I always wondered what it was like to be a villain. I think at some point we all found ourselves rooting for the villain to win, to break the mould of the world and defeat the villain. Yet ever since returning to Kouh, I found myself questioning that. Being around my 'family' had forced me to open my eyes to the cruelty of my own actions and what I had done.

I knew full well that in the future I would have to be cruel and I was prepared to do that. But at the same time, I didn't want to be the villain. People would view me as the villain in the future, I know that much. However, being the villain was not something I wanted to become, just like I didn't want to become just the hero.

I wanted to be me.

I wanted to survive.

I wanted to win.

Just being the hero would put me in more danger than I would be ready for. I'm not the main character of some anime, films or books. I doubt very much I had some unseen force that was plot armour protecting me at every turn.

I didn't want to be the hero.

But being the villain, that would only leave me facing more and more heroes trying to kill me. People who fought in the name of justice attempting to tear me down before I could do anything monstrous.

Neither option would be good for my health.

"What are you thinking about?" Megumi asked, moving around to stand directly in front of me. Her jumper zipper was pulled down even further revealing her bust straining against the small fabric that I struggled to call a bra. "It must be pretty serious if you haven't even noticed that we're finally alone."

As she said that, Megumi slowly sat herself down upon my lap, breasts squishing against my chest as her hands rested upon the couch, either side of my head.

"If you had the choice, between being the villain or the hero, which would you choose?" Megumi pulled away from me a little, bewildered at my strange question.

"What?"

"It's a serious question," I replied.

"No, I'm just surprised you're asking questions over than trying to fuck me," Megumi responded and I chuckled. Yes, I was horny and yes, I wanted to fuck her. And I would, I just needed an answer.

"Would you just answer the question?" As I said, that I trailed both hands up her legs, eventually reaching around and grasping her ass, pressing her crotch against my own.

"I-I don't know. Neither." She murmured. "Who the fuck gives a shit anyway. They're not real anyway, they're just in stories."

That was a dangerous outlook on life, believing everything to be just fantasy. I had done that and I was now left reeling trying to figure out how to deal with people that didn't act like anime characters.

But I suppose that if this was real, then that meant that heroes and villains didn't exist either. In my old world, some people did good things and those that did bad. Each to varying degrees, but I suppose there weren't people you'd classify as heroes or villains.

There were tyrants and monsters, serial killers. But no one ever referred to them as villains. And those that did good, they were more often good Samaritans or those that did their jobs to an extreme degree, going above and beyond the call of duty.

Heroes and villains existed in fantasy, I know now that this isn't fantasy but reality. The people were real and so, I just needed to do what was necessary to survive.

Now just to let you know, that this is where Mikoto's character starts to truly develop. On this site, people haven't appeared overly bothered though there have been a few. But on FanFic there have been a lot of complaints about Mikoto being more of a villain than anything else. And that's true, but this is where Mikoto starts to walk the path of being a morally grey character. Someone that is purely driven by the need to survive and therefore restrains himself. He'll be cruel when is necessary but won't go out of his way to act that way as that will only bring about more and more enemies. On the other hand, he will be kind but not to the extent that he'll help people without expecting anything in return. Neither a villain who makes everyone hate him, but not a hero that helps people selflessly
