Chapter 1: The Mysterious Voice
"Humans! Selfish humans! I'm tired of seeing you destroy one of my planets. Starting today, I, God, shall punish you. Everyone of you will struggle. Only those with courage and strength can survive. Shall we begin?! In 3... 2... 1... LET THE KILLING BEGIN!!!"
"That dream again..." Keith gasped.
"Hey bro, are you alright? You were screaming a while ago. Were you having a nightmare?" Luis asked.
"Nah, it's nothing, just an annoying dream. Anyway, what time is it?" Keith replied.
"It's already 8 am. Do you have your part-time job today?" Luis said.
"Damn it, I'm late again. I need to go now. See you later, Luis," Keith responded.
I, Keith, am a freshman at Lumia University. I live alone in the city of Red, while my family lives in the countryside. Since our home is not yet developed, I had to move to the capital to study. Today is Saturday, and I need to go to my part-time job. I'm a cashier at a convenience store. On weekdays, I work there at night, and on holidays and weekends, I'm there all day long.
"Good morning, Boss!" Keith greeted.
"Good morning, my ass! You're late again! Hurry up and change; we already have a customer," the Boss scolded.
"Yes, Boss. Got it," Keith replied.
"Thanks for coming. Please come again," said Sarah.
"It looks dark outside. I wonder if there's a typhoon coming," Keith remarked.
"Oh... our little Keith seems scared of the rain?" Sarah teased.
"Boss, it's not like that. I just don't have an umbrella if it rains," Keith explained.
"Then why don't you sleep here with me in the back room if it rains? We can enjoy our private time together," Sarah suggested.
"Stop teasing me, Boss. If you really want someone to accompany you, go and find a husband. You're starting to get old," Keith retorted.
"Oho~ seems like you want to die today? Don't you remember it's taboo to say that in front of me?" Sarah warned.
"No, no, no, Boss. I just want you to be happy. You're so beautiful. I'm just wondering why you're still single. Some of our customers really like you. Some of them only come here to see you rather than to see what we sell," Keith said.
"Oh well, never mind. Back to work. Here comes a customer," Sarah replied.
Sarah, my boss, always loves to tease me, but she never answers when I ask why she's still single. She's in her late twenties but looks like someone my age. Her figure is petite, curvy, with a voluptuous chest and a sexy bottom. She has healthy skin and exquisite features. Despite all this, she's still single, and I'm really curious why. If she were ten years younger, I'd already court her.
On my way home, I received a call.
"Hey Keith, wanna hang out? I'm with Bryan and our club members," said Ryan.
"Ryan, I'm sorry. I still need to finish my homework, and I'm already tired, so maybe next time," Keith replied.
"Oh, it can't be helped then," Ryan said.
Bryan and Ryan together with Luis are my dormmates at Lumia University. Every student is required to stay in dorms, but some of the rich kids don't want to because they value their privacy. So the university divides the dorms into three types of rooms:
Deluxe
Premium
Regular
The Deluxe room has a single bed, a small kitchen, and a bathroom. The Premium room consists of two beds and a bathroom. The Regular room consists of four beds, and it's so small that we place our things on or under our beds. What's more, you need to go to the public bathroom before you can take a bath.
Since I come from a poor family, I can't afford luxury, so I can barely afford the Regular room. The monthly cost is $500, while the Deluxe room costs $50,000 per month. $50,000! That's more than enough to cover my rent and food until I finish my studies here. Luckily, I have a full-time scholarship, so my only problems are rent and food.
When I finally reached our dorm, it was already night, and most students were either asleep or hanging out outside. As I was about to open the dorm room, that unknown voice echoed in my head again.
After the voice disappeared, a blinding light appeared out of nowhere. When I checked if something was wrong, I noticed I was holding a stick.
Novice sword Attack: 2-5 Durability: 100/100 Use it wisely, and you have a high chance of surviving the game.
Keith, Male Level: 1 Job: None Title: None Health: 1 Energy: 100 Mana: 100 Damage: 15-18 Strength: 5 Stamina: 10 Intelligence: 10 Endurance: 10 Agility: 10 (1 strength = 3 dmg, 1 intelligence = 10 mana, 1 stamina = 10 energy)
Keith was amazed as strange information suddenly flowed directly into his head.
"AAaaaahhhhh..." The moment he regained his senses, a scream could be heard to his left. A girl was being cornered by three other girls. The first girl managed to bite a huge piece of meat from the girl's neck, while the second girl bit another mouthful from the girl's stomach, causing her to scream for help non-stop. The last girl bit her in the throat, silencing her screams as gurgling sounds came from her mouth, with blood gushing from her neck. After a few moments, she stopped struggling and slowly collapsed on the ground. The three girls continued to bite and eat the corpse, enjoying the feast in front of them, ignoring Keith, who was watching a few steps away.
The scene was so gruesome that it made Keith want to vomit. "What in the world is happening?" he said to himself. "And those girls, they don't look normal. Their eyes look like the eyes of the dead, and they seem to enjoy eating that girl."
Keith was paralyzed by the gruesome sight. After a few seconds, he snapped out of it and quickly entered his room, locking the door. Inside, he thought again about what was happening outside. "Those girls eating human flesh, slow walking, dead eyes—one thing can explain it: ZOMBIES!"
Just then, he heard a noise inside the room.
"Luis, are you there?" Keith called out.
Growl
The room was too dark; he forgot to turn the lights on. While finding the switch, the noise got closer.
Growl Growl
When he turned on the lights, Luis was just a few steps away from him. Keith noticed that Luis looked like the three other girls outside.
"Hey, Luis, are you alright?" Keith asked. Instead of answering, Luis charged at him. Luckily, Keith managed to dodge, but Luis crashed into the door. The door budged a little but held the impact. However, Luis had a dislocated arm and was slowly trying to get up.
"What should I do..." Keith trembled as he remembered the wooden sword in his hand. "That's it. Sorry, Luis, but I must do this."
While Luis was still trying to stand up, Keith rushed towards him and smashed the wooden sword over his head. After being hit, Luis's body trembled and collapsed. Simultaneously, a white light entered Keith's body, and a book and coin fell on the ground. Keith picked up the book.
Gift of Darkness Level: 3 (Passive Skill) Description: When night falls, gain an additional 20% movement and attack speed. Vision at night is highly increased, and reflexes also improve. 1 skill slot is required to learn. Do you wish to learn this skill?
"YES! I want to learn it," Keith replied.
"You only have 5 skill slots. A skill slot is available every 5 levels. Are you sure you want to learn it?" the system asked.
"YES!" Keith confirmed.
Keith immediately learned the skill, thinking it would increase his survival rate, especially since it was nighttime. He checked if the effect was working.
"My body feels so light. I can also swing the sword faster. I hope it helps me survive."
While Keith was busy checking the effect, a loud bang was heard on the door. After a series of bangs, the door collapsed, and three girls simultaneously entered the room.
