Chapter 62: Chapter 62: Sports Festival Part 10
[Third Person's PoV]
After Mei's ad break, it was Izuku Midoriya vs. Togaru Kamakiri, a student from class 1B. His Quirk "Razer Sharp" allows him to produce large blades from any part of his body.
As Midoriya and Togaru stood in front of each other, Present Mic shouted for the round to begin.
"Full cowling: 10%" Midoriya muttered as he was surrounded in green arcs of energy. He shot off with a burst of speed and appeared to Togaru with his fist aimed at his face.
Togaru crossed his arms on time and shot blades from his foot to stay in place, but was still pushed back heavily. He only stopped from the borderline thanks to his quick thinking.
Togaru grinned, revealing sharp teeth. "You're strong, but let's see how you handle this!" He lunged forward, blades extending from his arms and legs, slashing at Midoriya with rapid, precise strikes.
Midoriya dodged and deflected the attacks, using his agility and quick reflexes to stay ahead of the blades. He aimed a kick at Togaru's side, but Togaru blocked it with a blade sprouting from his forearm, pushing Midoriya back.
"Full cowling: 15%!" Midoriya muttered, increasing his power. He moved even faster, landing a punch on Togaru's shoulder. Togaru staggered but quickly recovered, spinning around and slashing with a blade from his elbow.
Midoriya narrowly avoided the slash, feeling the blade's wind against his cheek. He focused, realizing he needed to end the fight quickly. "Full cowling: 20%!"
With a burst of speed, Midoriya zigzagged around Togaru, confusing him. He appeared behind Togaru, delivering a powerful kick to his back. Togaru stumbled forward, his balance disrupted. Midoriya seized the opportunity, charging forward with a powerful punch aimed at Togaru's chest.
Togaru tried to block, but Midoriya's increased power was too much. The punch connected, sending Togaru flying out of the ring. He landed outside the boundary, disqualified.
Present Mic announced, "Winner: Izuku Midoriya!"
Midoriya took a deep breath, relaxing as the green arcs of energy faded. Togaru got up, rubbing his chest with a wry smile.
After Midoriya's victory it was Momo's match, and she was up against another member from Class 1B, Sen Kaibara, who's quirk Gyrate allows him to make any part of his body rotate at high speed like a drill.
Present Mic then announced that they could begin.
Momo opened her hand and used her quirk to pull out a metal bow staff, she spun it around her body before charging in.
Sen Kaibara watched Momo with a focused gaze, his hands beginning to rotate rapidly as he activated his quirk, Gyrate. "Let's see how you handle this!"
Momo, undeterred, advanced swiftly, her bo staff spinning skillfully. She struck out with a quick jab aimed at Sen's midsection. Sen blocked with his rotating arm, deflecting the strike with ease. Momo used the momentum to spin and aim a low sweep at his legs.
Sen jumped over the sweep, countering with a drill-like punch aimed at Momo's shoulder. She parried the punch with her staff, the impact causing a loud clang. Sen pushed forward, rotating his other arm to follow up with another strike.
Momo backed off, her eyes narrowing in concentration. She adjusted her grip on the bo staff and switched to a defensive stance, waiting for an opening. Sen came at her again, his rotating fists a blur.
As Sen lunged forward, Momo sidestepped, using her bo staff to redirect his momentum. She struck out with a rapid series of blows, each one precise and controlled. Sen managed to block most of them, but Momo's speed and technique began to wear him down.
Seeing an opportunity, Momo created a flashbang grenade with her quirk and tossed it at Sen's feet. The grenade went off with a blinding light, causing Sen to stagger and cover his eyes.
Momo didn't waste a second. She closed the distance and delivered a powerful strike to Sen's abdomen with her bo staff, followed by a sweeping blow to his legs, sending him to the ground. She quickly pointed the end of her staff at his throat, signaling her victory.
Present Mic's voice boomed over the arena, "Winner: Momo Yaoyorozu!"
After Momo's match, it was Ochako Uraraka vs. Koji Koda. Once Present Mic started the match, Koda summoned a group of birds to swarm Uraraka and push her out of the arena. Uraraka charged ahead and, with a quick touch, was able to make Koda float and push him out of the ring, ending the match quickly.
Following Uraraka's win, the final match of the first round commenced: Mina Ashido vs. Shoji Mezo. As their match began, Shoji tried to grab Mina with his multiple limbs, but Mina was too quick. She surrounded herself with slippery acid, making it nearly impossible for Shoji to get a good grip on her.
Mina didn't just stay on the defensive. She attacked back, using sticky acid to try and hold Shoji in place, but Shoji's strength allowed him to break free, though he was injured. Both fighters were tired and hurt, but ultimately, Mina won in the end.
"AND THAT'S WHAT I CALL A GOOD END FOR THE FINAL ROUND OF THE FIRST MATCH EVERYONE!!" Present Mic announced.
After a short break, it was time for the second round of the tournament. "NOW THEN FOR THIS ROUND OUR LUCKY CONTESTANT WHO WOULD MOVE ON IS EIJIRO KIRISHIMA! WITH THE LUCKY CONTESTANT FROM THE PREVIOUS ROUND TAKING HIS PLACE!!"
Kirishima felt a bit disappointed that he wouldn't get to participate in this round but was glad to place higher in the tournament.
"NOW THEN EVERYONE LET'S GIVE IT UP TO OUR TWO FIRST ROUND CONTESTANTS: ANTHONY STARK VS. ASUI TSUYU!!! YOU MAY NOW BEGIN!!"
"Sorry," Tony said apologetically.
"For what, Rabbit?" Asui asked.
A compartment opened up from Tony's shoulder, shooting out an electric charge towards her.
Her eyes widened as she hopped out of the way just in time, nearly getting hit. "Cheap trick," she glared.
"That's why I apologized," Tony said, raising his hands. "Now I would kindly ask you to give up. You have a 0% chance of winning."
"I wouldn't forgive myself if I quit without even trying," Asui croaked before charging ahead with determination.
"This is why heroes are so annoying," Tony mumbled.
Once she got close, Tony shot a repulsor beam at her stomach, sending her flying back and skidding across the ground out of bounds.
"AND THAT'S WHAT I CALL ANOTHER QUICK ROUND FROM ANTHONY STARK. YOU CAN'T DENY THE CHARM IN OUR CONTESTANT FOR TRYING TO WIN!" Present Mic exclaimed.
The next match was Kyoka Jiro vs. Bakugo Katsuki. It ended quickly as Bakugo charged ahead without giving her any chance to attack. Despite her efforts, Bakugo's superior fighting techniques and abilities overwhelmed her.
Following that, it was Mineta vs. Melissa. Mineta tried to keep Melissa in place with his sticky balls, but Melissa ruptured them with her repulsors before sending an electric charge that hit him. Mineta could only spasm for a bit before plopping down unconscious, leading to Melissa's victory.
The next match was Shoto Todoroki vs. Tenya Iida. As the match began, Shoto froze the entire arena, making the terrain difficult for Iida to move on. Still, Iida used the ground as a skating rink and charged ahead towards Todoroki. However, as he got closer, Todoroki froze his calf engines, making them unable to move.
Todoroki then calmly placed a hand on Iida's chest, signaling for him to stop. Iida had no choice but to agree, conceding the match to Todoroki.
The arena was buzzing with excitement as the next match was announced: Momo Yaoyorozu versus Izuku Midoriya. The crowd was eager to see how the two would fare against each other, given their different strengths and strategies.
At the start of the round, Momo immediately conjured her Vibranium Shield, a formidable defense, and held her bo staff in the other hand. Midoriya, aware of her capabilities, activated Full Cowling at 25%, his body crackling with green energy.
The match began with Momo taking a defensive stance, her eyes sharp and focused. Midoriya, knowing he had to be careful, decided to test her defenses first. He dashed forward with incredible speed, aiming a series of quick, calculated punches at Momo. She skillfully blocked each attack with her Vibranium Shield, the metal ringing with each impact.
Realizing that a frontal assault wouldn't be effective, Midoriya quickly changed tactics. He used his enhanced agility to leap back and then around Momo, trying to find an opening. Momo responded by spinning her bo staff in a wide arc, forcing Midoriya to keep his distance.
Midoriya then feinted an attack from the front, but as Momo raised her shield, he flipped over her and aimed a kick at her back. Momo, anticipating his move, spun around just in time to deflect the kick with her staff, pushing him away.
Midoriya decided to change his approach again. This time, he used Full Cowling to enhance his speed and strength even further, moving almost too fast for the eye to follow. He aimed a powerful punch at Momo's shield, pushing her back several feet. Before she could recover, he was already behind her, aiming a kick at her side. Momo barely managed to block it with her staff, but the force of the blow knocked her off balance.
Seeing his chance, Midoriya moved in for a decisive strike. However, Momo quickly recovered and used her bo staff to vault herself over him, landing gracefully a few feet away. She then conjured a flashbang and threw it at Midoriya, who instinctively shielded his eyes.
The flashbang went off with a blinding light and deafening sound, disorienting Midoriya for a moment. Momo seized the opportunity to close the distance and swung her staff at him. Midoriya, still recovering from the flashbang, barely managed to block the attack with his forearm, but the impact sent him sprawling.
As Midoriya got back to his feet, he knew he had to end the fight quickly. He charged at Momo with everything he had, using Full Cowling to its maximum potential. Momo braced herself, her shield up and staff ready. Just as Midoriya was about to land a powerful punch, Momo dropped to the ground, using her staff to sweep his legs out from under him.
Midoriya hit the ground hard, but quickly rolled to his feet, breathing heavily. He knew he couldn't keep this up much longer. Summoning all his strength, he launched himself at Momo one last time, aiming a powerful kick at her shield. The force of the impact sent Momo stumbling back, but she managed to stay on her feet.
Midoriya, not giving her a moment to recover, followed up with a series of rapid punches. Momo blocked each one with her shield, but the relentless assault was taking its toll. Finally, Midoriya saw an opening and aimed a punch at her exposed side. Momo, unable to block in time, took the hit and was knocked back.
When she reaffirmed her stance and was about to attack once more, Present Mic called the match. Momo was surprised before looking down. She saw when she had stepped out from the Arena causing her shoulders to slump and look a bit ashamed of herself.
The next match was Mina Ashido versus Ochaco Uraraka, and the crowd was eager to see how the two would utilize their unique quirks against each other. Mina, with her Acid Quirk, knew she had to be strategic and prevent Uraraka from getting close enough to touch her and make her float.
As soon as the match began, Mina wasted no time and created tentacles made of acid, which extended from her arms like whips. She lashed out at Uraraka, who had to stay on her toes to avoid the acidic tentacles. The arena echoed with the sharp sounds of acid sizzling against the ground where the tentacles struck.
Uraraka, understanding the danger of getting hit by the acid, used her agility to dodge the attacks. She kept her distance, trying to find an opening. Mina, however, was relentless, swinging her acid tentacles in wide arcs to keep Uraraka at bay.
"You've got some tricky moves, Mina!" Uraraka called out as she evaded another strike.
"Thanks, Ochaco! But I can't let you get close!" Mina replied, determined to maintain her advantage.
Uraraka knew she needed to change her approach. She quickly glanced around the arena and spotted several large rocks scattered about. Formulating a plan, she used her Quirk to make the rocks float and sent them flying towards Mina.
Mina, seeing the incoming projectiles, skillfully used her acid tentacles to deflect the rocks. However, the distraction provided Uraraka with the opening she needed. As Mina was focused on the rocks, Uraraka dashed forward, closing the distance between them.
Realizing what Uraraka was attempting, Mina quickly retracted her tentacles and shot a stream of acid at the ground in front of Uraraka, creating a barrier of sizzling acid. Uraraka skidded to a halt, narrowly avoiding the corrosive liquid.
"Nice try, Ochaco, but I'm not going down that easily!" Mina said, grinning.
Uraraka, undeterred, took a deep breath and adjusted her strategy. She started moving in unpredictable patterns, zigzagging and using her floating rocks to create more obstacles for Mina. The rapid movement and constant barrage of rocks forced Mina to constantly readjust her aim, making it harder for her to keep track of Uraraka.
Finally, Uraraka saw her chance. She leaped high into the air, using her Quirk to lighten her body and soar above Mina. As she descended, she aimed to land directly behind her opponent. Mina, caught off guard by the aerial maneuver, tried to swing her tentacles upward but was a fraction too slow.
However, Mina had one more trick up her sleeve. As Uraraka descended, Mina quickly coated the area around her with a thin layer of acid, making it nearly impossible for Uraraka to land without getting hurt. Uraraka realized this mid-air and tried to adjust her landing, but Mina anticipated this and extended one of her tentacles to wrap around Uraraka's leg.
The acid tentacle didn't burn through Uraraka's suit immediately, but it was enough to immobilize her. Uraraka struggled to break free, but Mina tightened her grip just enough to keep her in place without causing serious harm.
The referee called the match, declaring Mina the winner. Mina quickly released Uraraka and helped her to her feet, ensuring she was okay.
Which meant that it was the end of the second round of the Tournament.
