The bright light almost blinded her because it was too bright for her to even attempt to open her eyes- however, questions of why she had been there haunted her as she tried searching for anyone with her hands against the Light. She collapsed at the ground a while ago but for some reasons, she felt like fighting – she did not intend to just give up- and that was probably the reason why she was still conscious, trying to open her eyes through the light. She wasn't sure about what was happening around her, but what she was certain for was that she was reaching out to someone. Her headache was kicking strongly, and she knew that she could lose consciousness any time- but she knew she had the reason to keep reaching out. She knew that someone will come for her and she will be saved- and the silver light that was cold and bright doesn't make her scared because deep inside her lies something more frightening- the feeling of being alone- of being abandoned-
But by whom? Why was she crying for no reason? Why was she reaching out even if it felt like the light was endless?
Feelings of misery, of pain, and of isolation started building up inside her for unknown reasons. It felt like her heart was being squeezed out of her body and her life was being drained from her until she couldn't take it anymore.
"S-save me… Wha-"
As soon as she mentioned those words, she heard something break in front of her and that caused her to open her eyes to see. He saw a guy with a silver head crouching in front of her with blood gushing through his hands as he was holding a broken black necklace that appeared to her as a scary thing.
The golden eyes of the person in front of her almost brought back blurry memories- but her head just hurt more- and now, her heart was hurting as well that she felt like she was almost losing her sanity. However, just as she was about to give in to the temptation of collapsing- again- a warm hand touched her cheek- and it was like all her memories flooded back to her. Now, even the light surrounding them became a background image of their sad portrait with the both of them crying, as the other one was fading away.
"L-Light! Why did it come to this?" She cried as she held his fading hands on her cheeks. "Don't tell me that I will also forget you like the people on our mission- no- that won't happen right?"
"Hope…" He looked at her dearly and kissed her hands. "It was meant to be like this from the very beginning- me saving you, and now, I do remember why I became a chosen. It was all thanks to you. You have brought Joy in my life."
"What- how? Why?" Joy asked, squeezing the hands of Light that was becoming less visible as time went on.
"I…" Light paused and squeezed her hands back as he smiled at her. "I killed myself."
Joy was taken aback and almost let go of his hands. For all the days she was with him, she always saw him as the tower of her strength- the reminder of her safety and comfort, and to think that he did that to himself was something she could never imagine. However, Light started to show signs of pain in his chest and on the cuts on his arms- and his hands became colder and colder.
"No. Light…"
"Hope…" Light said in a very caring tone and he touched her cheek as he erased the tears in her eyes. "It was because of you that I felt so alive. It was because of you that I wanted to live."
"Light… Let us conserve your energy. Don't talk anymore. Let's go find help, okay? After you calm down and this light fade, we will find help so hang onto me okay? Hang on tight." Joy said and hugged him in her desperation to feel warmth in his body- but coldness has taken over him and she can no longer feel his beating heart. "
"I am so thankful that the heavens appointed me to go to you. You were a map that guided me in my path, and I ended up treasuring you the most." Light said while his voice became more inaudible. "You were the moon in my darkest times. You shone so bright and it was a blessing to me- you were a blessing to many people and everyone is so much delighted to have you in their lives. I am delighted to have you in my life."
"Light…" Joy cried and hugged him tighter.
"I wanted to be with you till the end but my time here with you was given to me by the heavens who gave me more than a second chance- they gave me a life with you- a genuine life- even if I was a temporary human. Even if my time here on earth was limited."
He reached for her cheek and she held his cold hands. "I love you…"
"I am so in love with you as well, but our love really comes to end with this." Light said and tears started streaming his cheeks as he cried. "I wanted to have a happy ending, like that of a fairy tale- with you by my side, smiling like all the problem in this world was unknown to you. But I can't do that. They already gave me a life- a temporary eternity with you and I know wishing for more will be too much, but I am still hoping to be able to come back running to you." Light added and held her hand. "Promise me that you will be happy."
"How could I do that when you're gone?" Joy asked. "You know that you are my happiness."
"My disappearance will do you no harm my beloved. So now promise me." He said and gave her a gaze that she can never resist.
"I.. I promise I will be happy. But I can't accept this!" Joy said and looked at him. However, he looked like he was at peace as he was closing his eyes and listening to her words. He was crying- but he was smiling. His eyes were happy and contented, and Joy can never break that. She breathed hard and she knew she had to continue.
"I promise I will be happy even if you are no longer by my side. I trust everything you say and if you said that something good will happen, then that will happen. I will wait for you. I don't care anymore if I'll forget you. In my heart, you will always stay and will never leave. You will forever be with me in my heart and in my soul. My hands will remember how it felt like when you were holding them. My eyes will remember how you looked like when you told me you love me- when I first met you- when we fought- my eyes will remember your smile. My brain is the only thing that will forget you so I can get by. I can get by with this love inside my heart- with your love in my life. You have made me so happy. You made me want to live. You made me feel loved and cared. I love you Light… thank you for the memories. You have made so much impact in this world that the earth won't be the same without you. Light, thank you… thank you… Your existence was a gift. You did well. You have completed your mission. You saved me."
"I…." Light said and looked at her eyes for the last time. "I am so happy. And now I am relieved. Thank you, my beloved. Thank you. Those words meant everything to me." Lights hands started disappearing – and when Joy saw that, she hugged him again. She could feel him smiling, crying and mumbling with words only she can understand.
"I understand Light….. You want me to let you go… You want me to let us go." Joy smiled at him and cried harder as her memories of him slowly faded into insignificance. "Goodbye, my beloved…." Joy said and closed her eyes as the light became more intense, and another glass broke. She can feel the coldness leaving her. She can feel his body becoming ashes.
'Joy, you must remember him. You must fight.' She thought to herself and held on tighter.
'Joy, you must never forget.'
'Joy, don't forget.'
"He was the angel that saved you.'
'he was the human- no- angel-'
'he was…'
'he…'
'who is he? What am I talking about?'
She didn't realize that she was hugging herself for some reasons, and she opened her eyes and saw the beach that was too beautiful she was enthralled and collapsed. A silver butterfly flew to her nose and stayed for some minutes, but after a person saw the person who collapsed on the beach, the butterfly flew up to the sky- to some place unknown.
