Chapter 7: Chapter-7

Aizen Sousuke did not narrowly think that everything belonging to the Quincy was undesirable. In the world of the Shinigami, whether it was the Shinigami or the Quincy, the essence was to manipulate spirit particles. The difference was simply that the Quincy mobilized external spirits, while the Shinigami focused on internal cultivation. But fundamentally, both were methods of manipulating energy. There was no inherent distinction between high and low.

With an open mind, Aizen realized that by combining Konoha's techniques and chakra system, many seemingly unrelated things could actually be developed. Take Blut, for example—a special ability of pure-blooded Quincies that involved the natural flow of reishi injected into the blood vessels, greatly enhancing the body's defense and strength. After some testing of the mechanism and operational theory behind it, Aizen found it indeed useful. However, further development would require processing the veins and blood vessels, which didn't align with his current plans.

But, he thought, it's an excellent cover-up. In this world, the balance between defense and attack power was skewed. A secret technique that allowed one to block kunai and low-level ninjutsu without injury—even with restrictions—was enough to arouse curiosity and acceptance. Everyone knew how valuable medical ninjas were, and a defensive technique like this would greatly improve survival rates. Naturally, it was worth advocating for.

Even though the current technology was crude and could only be considered a form of secret technique, the concept alone generated curiosity and expectations. People would be more tolerant of its limitations. And since Aizen himself was the developer, that only added to Konoha's trust. A kind-hearted Chunin with a defense-focused technique and no notable offensive skills? He could withstand scrutiny from both Anbu and Root. His secret technique would surely be added to Konoha's sealed book, enhancing the village's strength.

Why not? In exchange for the survival of countless Genin, Konoha could preserve a single Chunin. Politically and strategically, the Third Hokage would never allow Aizen to go to the battlefield. Moreover, Aizen's presence in the village, helping others while wearing his signature haori, was a stabilizing force. If something happened to Aizen, people would assume something serious had happened to Konoha.

A Chunin can't do much on the battlefield, but they can steady hearts and bring people together. Aizen could develop secret techniques and assist Jonin with experiments. His lack of offensive skills made him non-threatening. What was there to target? With public opinion on his side and useful, though not revolutionary, technology in hand, Aizen's position in Konoha was not just secure—it was eternal. Many Jonin even entrusted their descendants to him, believing in the safety and guidance he could offer in such a dangerous world.

"Yo, you're already here? Aizen."

"Akimichi Jonin, good morning." Aizen greeted the large middle-aged man, who had been waiting at the entrance of the Konoha Conference Hall, with a gentle smile and a respectful bow.

"I must ask, what's the meeting about? I'm just a Chunin, not as strong as everyone else. Technically, I shouldn't be needed for such meetings."

"Well, judging by the time, it should be about assigning teams. Graduation season is almost here. But it is strange—why did they invite a Chunin like you?"

Aizen Sousuke, standing with a confused expression, mirrored the sentiment of Akimichi Tekkaze, who stood at the door. Tekkaze, once a personal guard of the Second Hokage, was a seasoned Jonin in Konoha. Though now retired, the Akimichi clan members frequently served as guards around the village, and Tekkaze would occasionally take up the role of guarding Konoha's office during critical moments.

This Jonin meeting was a relatively common occurrence in recent years. Aside from those Jonin tasked with monitoring the activities of major nations along the borders, nearly every Jonin from Konoha had gathered. However, as they looked at Aizen Sousuke, who stood out among the crowd, wearing his signature haori instead of the standard green vest, many couldn't help but feel puzzled. It wasn't jealousy over his attire—after all, it was unusual to see a Chunin present at a Jonin meeting.

Aizen didn't offer any explanations. Instead, he wore a helpless expression, spreading his hands as if to indicate that he was just as confused as they were. His gesture only added to the Jonins' curiosity. Typically, this type of situation wasn't too uncommon, but since it was Aizen, the atmosphere felt different. Even the family ninjas, who were normally cautious, found themselves strangely trusting of Aizen, thanks to his gentle smile and calm demeanor.

However, his rank was undeniable—he was a Chunin. The Jonin, used to seeing him at a certain level of capability, now faced an unexpected situation: Aizen had been invited to a meeting that was usually reserved for their ranks. What did this mean? Were they supposed to support Aizen in some new role?

As the murmurs among the Jonin reached a certain level, the door suddenly opened once again. The Third Hokage stepped into the room, wearing his iconic bamboo hat. This time, however, he had not brought along his two advisors. Instead, he sat alone before the assembled Jonin.

"Normally, this meeting would be about assigning team leaders for the graduating ninja from the academy," the Third Hokage began, his voice calm but commanding. "But today, I want to take this opportunity to announce something important."

He glanced around the room before his gaze settled on Aizen Sousuke, whose expression remained puzzled.

"I want to appoint Sousuke as Konoha's acting consultant," the Third Hokage declared.

A hush fell over the room.

The room fell silent. Before any of the Jonin could respond, Aizen Sousuke stood and bowed to the Hokage—not to express gratitude, but to decline the honor immediately.

"I am not of age, I lack strength, and I have no experience in such matters. I'm just an ordinary Chunin. I cannot possibly accept such a critical position. I respectfully ask you, Third Hokage-sama, to reconsider your decision!"

"You're suggesting that I made an error in my judgment, Sousuke?" the Hokage asked, his voice calm but firm.

"I wouldn't dare... but..." Aizen began.

"Then if I did not make a mistake, why do you think it's inappropriate?" the Third Hokage pressed.

"But I..."

"This is the position most suited for you. I make this decision in the name of Hokage."

Aizen's expression froze, his mind seemingly caught in a loop of logic. Not just the Third Hokage, but the entire room of Jonin broke into good-natured laughter. Even those who had initially considered objecting found themselves joining in, recognizing the humor in the situation. Upon reflection, the position of consultant agent seemed oddly fitting.

Aizen wasn't Hokage, and that was enough for most people. It sounded strange, but it was the reality of Aizen Sousuke. Even if he rose to greater heights, the villagers would still support him wholeheartedly. Since being introduced to the Will of Fire at the age of six, he had lived by that creed. His reputation for doing good deeds and helping others had grown over fourteen years, making him one of the most beloved figures in Konoha. Aizen wasn't the kind of ninja who sought compensation for completing missions—he volunteered his help, even assisting with raising children and teaching the Will of Fire. Many of the younger generation had grown up under his guidance, and even the adults admired him.

It might seem odd for a 20-year-old Chunin to be Hokage, but as a consultant, it made sense. Although the title of 'Consultant Agent' sounded grand, it came without significant authority. A consultant agent was merely a proxy for the true consultant, without any real power. It wasn't a fast track to becoming a consultant; it was more of an honorary role with no competition for resources. The Jonin were more than happy to show Aizen goodwill, recognizing that his standing in the village was nothing short of legendary. He was known as the "White Moonlight" of Konoha, always present to help, always dependable. Even the notoriously prideful Uchiha clan had great respect for him. Aizen as Hokage would have been a challenge, but as an advisor? That was just right.

"Come on, Sousuke," one Jonin spoke up, "You should take the position of consultant. Otherwise, the old man here won't know how to properly recognize your contributions."

"Besides," another chimed in, "You need access to certain information and resources for your research, right? This role would make it easier."

"As a consultant, you'll just be assisting Hokage in making decisions. There's nothing complicated about it," a third Jonin added.

The room was filled with nods of agreement, as it became clear that the decision had already been made, whether Aizen liked it or not.

Whether it had been planned by the Hokage from the beginning or was genuinely supported by the Jonin, Aizen Sosuke now found himself in an awkward situation. Despite his embarrassment, the Jonin of Konoha showed no hostility towards him. Instead, they congratulated him, smiling as they welcomed the youngest consultant into their ranks.

"To be honest, Sosuke, I've always intended to train you for a more significant role," the Third Hokage said, his tone shifting to a more serious one after the laughter had died down. He fixed his gaze on Aizen and continued, "However, Kage represents the strength of a village. Sosuke, your current strength is not sufficient for that position. While your Static Blood Cloak is a remarkable invention, it alone isn't enough to convince the outside world. I hope you understand my concerns."

Aizen opened his mouth to respond, but the Hokage went on.

"But it's also impossible for you to remain in the position you are in now. Your talents far exceed it. That's why I believe you should take up this role. The strength required to be a Konoha Consultant isn't physical, but rather, the ability to uphold Konoha's heart without compromise."

The Third Hokage's gaze softened, his voice carrying a weight of respect. "Because no one in this world loves this village more than you, Sosuke. Your passion for the Will of Fire surpasses anyone here. Not even I, or anyone in this room, loves the village as deeply as you do. There are few willing to sacrifice everything for the sake of Konoha. You deserve this role, Sosuke."

Aizen's expression shifted from one of surprise to deep contemplation. After a moment, his gaze sharpened, and he nodded resolutely. "I understand, Lord Third. I will accept this position. If my opinion can help further the Will of Fire, I will do everything in my power to support the people of Konoha."

"Good, that's the spirit," the Third Hokage said approvingly, watching as Aizen's sense of purpose seemed to grow. He liked how Aizen understood the thoughts and needs of everyone around him. While some of the other advisors might complain, Danzō had already gone to handle them, so there wouldn't be any significant issues. With Danzō taking care of business, the Hokage could relax.

"Then take your seat as the consultant now and familiarize yourself with your duties," the Hokage instructed.

"Yes, sir," Aizen responded dutifully.

"Now, let's proceed with the discussion about the ninja class leadership..."

Aizen sat in the chair closest to the Hokage, pulling out a pen and paper to take notes as the meeting continued. The matters at hand were neither too urgent nor too trivial. In truth, adding another consultant meant little more than holding a few internal meetings like this one. Word had already spread among the clan ninjas, the villagers had no objections, the daimyo was pleased, and the core Jonin were in favor of the decision—there was no real problem. As for which students the Jonin would choose to mentor, it had largely been predetermined, and this meeting was mostly a formality.

The real highlight of the gathering had been the surprise announcement that Aizen would become a consultant agent. However, midway through the meeting, a ninja dressed entirely in black entered the room, carrying a scroll that he handed to the Hokage.

For such a message to be delivered in this way, it had to be important. The Third Hokage opened the scroll, and as he read the contents, his expression darkened.

"Everyone, I have some urgent news."

The atmosphere in the room grew tense. After finishing the scroll, the Third Hokage looked up at the gathered Jonin, taking a deep breath.

"There have been significant developments in the Hidden Sand Village of the Land of Wind. The Third Kazekage, along with his personal guards, the Puppet Master Scorpion, and others, have been confirmed missing. The information is reliable."

The Jonin's faces fell as the gravity of the situation set in. Something big was brewing. Meanwhile, Aizen Sosuke, now seated as the consultant, adjusted his glasses, his face unreadable, feeling little emotion despite the sudden and drastic turn of events.
