As we make our way to Lit class, Rowan rambles on about inconsequential things. My heartbeat picks up with excitement and dread at the thought of seeing Nevaeh after our conversation earlier. However, as soon as I get to class, all I feel is a disappointment because she’s not there. As I’m about to take a seat, Rowan slaps me in the arm and says. “Hey Khail, Isn’t that your girlfriend?”
I turn to where he is pointing and swallow hard when I see that Nevaeh is talking to Aaron. I observe as he stops her near the door and kisses her on the forehead. Everything inside of me grows cold, and my wings begin to strain against my back. What the hell! I
Seething with anger, I watch their interaction and almost blow a gasket when he screams out. “I love you, Heaven!”
Nevaeh laughs heartily and blows him a kiss, and a couple of other students laugh with amusement. Balling up my fists, I take a couple of steady breaths. It wouldn’t be a good idea to let my beast loose in the school. My heart aches with need, as my subconscious screams out, she’s mine!
Unaware of my rage, Nevaeh steps into the room and takes a seat. Somehow, I find the will to turn around and take a seat. For the rest of the period, we both work, but our conversation stilted. You can cut the tension with a knife. Unfortunately, the rest of the day is just as bad. I’m almost relieved when I get to detention.
