Chapter 19: Chapter 6 (part 2)

Blaizen gave out a yawn.

"Man, you're saying what I'm thinking," Ean said as he ran his fingers through his hair. "What do you say? You all ready for bed?" They all agreed and rose to their feet.

"Why, sir," Cecealye said as she put out her arm. "Would you do me the pleasure of escorting me to my chambers."

He took her hand and kissed it. "I assure, you the pleasure's all mine."

"Hey, she said to her chambers, not into her chambers. And yes, there is a significant difference," Blaizen teased as he patted Ean on the back and walked away.

Cecealye's jaw dropped, a slight blush on her face.

Ean chuckled. "Thank you, Blaizen, for pointing that out to me. I would hate to get the wrong idea."

"No problem, man. Just know I got your back." Blaizen headed for the stairs.

The truth was, he had his own agenda. He saw that Supreany was already upstairs, and he wanted to try to catch her before she went to her room. Regardless, he knew the two turtledoves would be a few minutes before they would go their separate ways to bed. However, if Supreany was already in her room getting ready for bed, he'd have to think of a good reason to go in after her. As he reached the top of the stairs, he found that such was the case. He paused there in the hallway for a moment and sighed. Man, she's fast. He suddenly realized that Orckle was standing beside him, a slight smile on his face.

"You're smart. I'm sure you'll think of something." Orckle turned to go into the guys' room. "And if not, well, you've got the next opportunity you have to be alone with her ... whenever that comes." He then disappeared into the room.

'Thanks, Orckle. That helped a whole lot.' He stood there a moment longer. 'Well, here goes nothin'.' He approached her door and gave a gentle knock.

"Who is it?" came from the other side of the door.

"It's me."

A slight pause followed. "Um, okay. It's safe to come in."

He slowly opened the door to see that she had on a loose linen shirt that could pass as a short gown and her leather pants.

"Is there something you needed?"

"No, I was just checking to make sure you were all right. You were really quiet tonight. Not your usual self."

She shrugged. "Yes, I'm ... just tired that's all."

"Uh-huh." His attention was then drawn to Supreany's daggers lying on one of the beds. "Can I…?"

"Yes." She reached down and pulled one from its sheath and handed it to him. "Careful. They're really sharp."

He held the somewhat small, but rather intricate, weapon in his hand. It was clear this was made to be a weapon, not just some tool. To his surprise, however, it was much lighter than he'd thought it would be. The metal of the blade was old and bore a very small, worn inscription which he could not read. The handle was wrapped in some sort of leather. But the most peculiar part of it was there were small teeth moulded into the blade, three on the side of the edge and two on the back. There were also some coming out of the hilt on the pommel. It was so that any part of the dagger could be used as a weapon.

He looked up at her and pointed to the teeth. "What are these from?"

"They're dragon teeth."

"Dragon teeth? Hmm, they're really small."

She sighed and smiled. "Blaizen there are many kinds of dragons, and they all come in different sizes. These teeth are from what would be considered a large angelos dragon, which means 'messenger' dragon in the common tongue. They're generally very small and can sit in the palm of a man's hand. With the exception of their underbelly, the males are covered in beautiful blue scales, and the females have a mixture of brown and very dull blue scales. Their eyes are rich beautiful blue. You see, they're great for message carrying because they're small, fast, and potentially fierce. Angelos dragons who have been trained as messengers will do any and everything to ensure their message is delivered. These teeth, however small, are the best teeth for weaponry because they are the sharpest out of all the dragons'. You never have to sharpen them."

"So, basically you're saying it'd really suck to get bitten by one of them."

"Yes, it would."

"Why haven't I seen any of them? Actually, come to think of it, I haven't seen many dragons at all. I'm not complaining; I'm just wondering."

"I don't know. I guess there really aren't that many on Aleige. It's always a big deal when you see them ..." Supreany's face contorted in slight confusion.

"What?"

"You know, I don't even know why they're called dragons. That's not what they really are."

"I don't follow." Blaizen paused. "I mean, I don't know enough about this world to understand what you're saying."

Supreany shook her head. "Everybody here calls them dragons. I don't even know where that name came from, because that's not what they are. I mean, some of them could be considered dragons."

"Well then, what are they?" Blaizen asked playfully.

"They're therion."

"Maybe that means the same thing as dragons." Blaizen shrugged. He didn't quite understand why this was bothering Supreany.

"No, it doesn't." She paused. "How can I explain it ... Dragons can be therion but therion aren't necessarily dragons. Some can be considered dragons, but all of them are therion. Just trust me. I learned about them when I was a child. They were kind of ... commonplace."

"Kind of like a square is a shape, but not all shapes are square?"

Supreany nodded her head.

"Commonplace? Well, remind me not to visit your childhood home." Blaizen smiled.

Supreany gave a slight chuckle.

Blaizen's thoughts suddenly went to his childhood, and in turn, to his home. Supreany watched as his face changed and washed over with a look he sported when he was thinking about his home.

"You miss your home, don't you?" she asked.

"Parts of it. My older brother, mainly."

"What was his name?"

"Zephen. He's a lot different than me, more quiet, reserved. We always looked out for each other; we always had one another." He dropped his head. "He was my best friend." He took in a deep breath. "What about you?"

She shook her head. "Nope. Just me."

"Are you sure there's no chance?"

"Yup, I'm sure."

There was something about the way she answered that, which said *now is not the time to pursue that topic*. So, he didn't. He decided to take their conversation into a different direction. "So, you're really not going to tell me what's bothering you, are you?"

She shook her head. "Nope."

"Well, can't blame me for trying, but just remember. If you ever need a shoulder to cry on, you can always seek out Orckle. 'Cause I'm not sure how CC would feel about you going to Ean."

Supreany couldn't help but laugh. "Why, thank you, Blaizen. I'll keep that in mind."

"Hey, helpin' is what I'm good at, among other things. But we won't go into that now."

"Oh, really?"

"Yeah, well, there's just so many, it would be like counting the stars to point them all out."

She began to laugh out loud. "Oh, please, you're so full of it."

"Hey, that hurts my self-image."

"Good, it should."

They laughed for a moment.

"Well, I guess I'll go on to my room. Don't want to start any rumors."

"Yeah, that might be bad."

He set her dagger back down on the bed. "All right. Well, you get some sleep."

"All right. You too."

"Night."

"Good night." She watched him disappear through the door. 'He sure is funny, I'll give him that.'
