Chapter 1
Humans are hypocritical creatures, we fill our minds with these theories and equations to try to make sense of the world around us. Like children fumbling around in the dark, imagining the monster that might lurk around the corner, when it was just that.
A figment of imagination.
We create 'laws' and 'rules' to better understand our world, when we can barely comprehend ourselves.
Hypocrites…..., down to our very core.
We love, what we hate.
We destroy, what we cherish.
We are heralds of death and destruction,
These hands used to kill sons and daughters,
To kill sisters, brothers, mothers and fathers.
Are used to protect whatever we hold dear to us.
A human is many things, selfish and irrational to name a few.
We can become devils to some, yet angels to others.
Not giving a damn for others, yet willing to die for those we hold dear.
Some may say that this is what makes us human. I'd have to agree.
Humans are hypocritical.
A lot of people have tried to give meaning to their lives, to their existence.
Religion, love, even death.
The list goes on and on,
I wouldn't call them wrong.
Humans need a reason, when we aren't running for our lives and our minds empty, we tend to overthink ourselves to insanity.
Our mind craves a purpose.
There are some who live for more noble reasons than others, and there are some who live for reasons that would simply be called disgusting.
I swear, the more i think about humanity the more baffled I get.
Though of one thing I am certain.
Humanity isn't ugly as much as it isn't beautiful.
There really isn't a way to describe it.
The closest i could get, was that it just is.
You could look at us for all our rights and all of our wrongs and say that something cheesy like 'humanity isn't good or bad, it's both'.
I'm here to say that that's complete and utter bullsh*t.
You could say the same about nature, about how it gives life as often as it takes a life.
Yet that wouldn't be correct would it.
Nature isn't good, bad, or both. It simply is, just like us.
The very concept of good and bad was created to justify one's actions, not to judge ourselves as a whole.
Humans are hypocritical.
I just hope that someone out there can genuinely admit that.

User388 Hi author-san here, i just wanted to say that i really admire hachiman as a character. He pushes others away by hurting them yet he hurts himself the most. He is honestly the kindest character i've ever seen, not just in anime. the lengths he goes through to find something genuine is also just insane, even if he is portrayed as cynical and just pessimistic about humanity in general.
Inside we all know that he's just a big softie that wants to be loved.
