In the dark basement, where even the sound of thunder wouldn't penetrate, a figure lay curled up against the cold ground. The man barely had any mass on his bones. If not for the slow rise and fall of his chest, one might think he'd died weeks ago.

Suddenly, footsteps echoed in the vicinity. Someone was coming. The man thought so too, and a terrible shudder ran through his body.

Instantly, he wanted to run, but his twisted legs did not give him the luxury to do so. He could only crawl forward, using the remaining strength of his arms.

The light went on, forcing the man to shut his sunken eyes tightly. The crisscrossing scars running over his face looked more hideous than ever as they stood out against his loose skin. Starvation does terrible things to one's body.
