Mikael echoed, "A wolf?" 

His eyes widened in utter shock and concern, and his brows deeply knit together as he tried to make sense of how a wolf could have infiltrated the estate unseen. Instinctively, he tried to step forward to confirm if it was true. However, Cade's arm blocked his path, promptly preventing him from joining Sir Gareth.

"Stay back, my lady," Cade instructed.

Unable to get closer, Mikael's gaze fell on Halter again, who had looked down, staring at the floor with complete guilt etched on his face.

"I, I found it wounded and I just," Halter started confessing, his voice trembling in a low volume. "I couldn't just leave it to die," he explained, clenching his fists at his sides.
