Chapter 1: Activation
The day Angelo stepped out of the old grumbling cab, he knew by the looks of the faces around this town that he was going to hate it. why had his mom sent him to live here among these people who seemed to have lost all hope of living.
The bell rang signalling the end of the day for the mines across town. soon the streets were filled with dirty miners and the noise was overwhelming to Angelo.
he cursed under his breath and continued to the end of town where he was supposed to begin his life.
The old lady that welcomed him had a smile on her old tattered face. "don't worry master Angelo, you're going to love this place" she said, he wasn't feeling as optimistic as she was though.
he was shown to a dirty room on the first floor and he put his bags before settling onto the bed and cupping his head with his hands. it was going to be a long and hard life out here in the wilderness.
he must have been sitting there for an hour before the old lady, whom he learned was named Sis Dolly, came in with something to eat. he accepted the food without much enthusiasm and tried eating a little. he finally gave up after a few spoonfuls and put them on the ground next to his bags and got up. he went around the room and looked out the window at the town that was to become his home for the next two years.
he had been sent here by his mother after he had failed his second year of study at the University back in Phoenix and his mother had suggested he should come and try his luck at running the mine here in South River, 5000 miles from Phoenix and his friends. he just couldn't imagine how he was going to do it. he couldn't stop thinking about Melissa, his sweetheart, the one who had blatantly refused his offer to join him here...why couldn't she understand that he just couldn't imagine life without her...this was making even gloomier and he decided to get his mind from her completely and settled on getting ready for bed.
