Chapter 4: Escape (1)

Back in the castle walls.

Anxiety sets in as Sir Marhaus sees the prince sit down to pray. 'Ugh, make it quick we are running out of time.'

As soon as the prince puts his hands together, Marhaus sees a big grin appear on Christopher's face.

Marhaus confused by this wonders, 'Why does he have a big grin on his face?'

Christopher with his head still down from praying says, "Good news, God has agreed to help us escape."

Marhaus suddenly feels a rush of power that felt different somehow, but slowly dismisses it as just an adrenaline rush.

Marhaus responding to the earlier comment, "Are you playing tricks, now of all times. Even if you were a priest, you would have to set up an elaborate ritual, and even then the most you would get is a message from a Lesser Angel. You just sat down, and closed your eyes. You expect me to believe you talked to God."

Christopher a little shaken from the mention of Angels appearing as if it where normal, looks up and says, "Yes."

Marhaus then sees the prince stand up as if he has no worries in the world. "I have to admit the level of confidence you are showing would be enough to convince anyone.".. "Other than me."

Christopher, "It is not my job to convince you. It is my job to help you with our escape. Have you not felt yourself become more powerful." He says starring at Marhaus.

Marhaus was taken aback by this statement, "How did he know that?"..."Tha..That was just an adrenaline rush."

Christopher, "No. That was the affect of my blessing.".. "The Paladin class."

Marhaus, "What the blazes is a Paladin class?" He asks both out of skepticism and curiosity.

Christopher considers the idea that this world might not have had a Paladin class before he arrived.

Christopher, "The Paladin class is a Holy class, similar to a Priest's. The main difference is the fact that the Paladin class is also a warrior class. It is one of the blessings that God bestowed upon me."

Marhaus confused by this sudden turn of events. Decided to checks his stats to see if Christopher was messing with him, or not. He then realized that his stats have a 10% boost, and there was no time limit on them. If this was from a buff skill he would have seen a number ticking down.

Marhaus realizing Christopher was being honest replies. "Sorry kid but even if what you say is true, I'm afraid it's just not enough."

Christopher understanding also said, "I was also gifted a powerful skill. It is not the type that would allow me to fight beside you, but it will be incredibly helpful in our escape."

Taken aback by this revelation Marhaus then asks, "What is this skill you speak of?".."What does it do?"

Christopher replies with, "I can't tell you the name of the skill, but it allows me to see everything we need to escape. The only downside is that I can only use it for two minutes."

Marhaus considering his options states, "Two minutes is not a lot of time. Do you think it will be enough?"

Christopher with a serious tone says, "It will have to be enough."

Marhaus was lost in thought. He was trying to come up with a plan using this new information.

Before he was just trying to get out anyway he could. But then the prince woke up, and started acting strange. He started saying he had talked to God, of all things. The craziest thing was that what the prince was saying was starting to seem like the truth.

Before he had finished coming up with a plan, Christopher started heading for the door. "Are you coming?"

After Christopher had said that, Marhaus realized the prince's eyes had changed color. Before they were a stunning silvery blue. But now his irises were a dazzling shade of gold.

It didn't take more than a second for Marhaus to realize what just happened.

"Damn it, warn me before you do something like that." He said while grabbing Christopher and running out the door, not wanting to waste even a second of Christopher's skill.

Marhaus, "So how is this skill of yours going to help us escape?"

Christopher looked around seeing what appeared to be footprints leading somewhere down the hallway.

Christopher, "For now all I can see is the path we need to take. I will let you know when we need to change directions."

After saying this Christopher looks up at Marhaus. He is surprised at what he sees.

Marhaus, "Which way? We are almost at the end of the corridor."

Christopher, "Left.".."Turn left into that room." he said while pointing.

Marhaus bolts for the room.

Once they arrive Marhaus quickly opens the door, and as gently as he can, tosses Christopher into the room. Marhaus quickly, and quietly closes the door behind them. After, he let's out a sigh of relief.

Christopher, who is sore from being thrown on his rump frowns at Marhaus.

He is only upset for a moment, because he understands the situation they are in.

Marhaus whispers, "Why are we in h"

Christopher interrupts. "shhh"

... "Does anyone have eyes on them"

"No, Sir. We can't figure out where any of them have gone. It doesn't help that Merlin blocked out the stars, and the moon."

"Imbeciles! Do you have any idea what the Queen is gonna do to us if we can't find them? Keep looking!"

"Yes, Sir!" The group of men say in response.

Marhaus who was listening through the door could hear the footsteps getting further away.
