"The book?" I ask feeling at a loss, "I thought no one knows it's whereabout?"
"You're right," she answers, "no one does. We've never seen it and have absolutely no idea where it might be if it still exists but as expected, they don't believe."
Honestly, it's actually hard to believe that no one knows where the book is and if it even exists. This way, it's even harder to believe the goddess's supposed story and brutality of humans against her.
"I know-"
"Since your-", We both start to say at the same time but stop and she nods for me to go on.
"No it's fine," I say, "you can continue."
"It's not relevant." She declined, "You should ask your questions quickly, we don't have all day."
Her tone isn't the 'subordinate to superior' kind I was expecting and it's actually better in a way.
Although a tad bit scared, I'm able to be myself and not some impromptu Queen.
"Okay then," I stand up and stand close to the railings, seeing the vibrant beautiful city clearly from up here, "since your goddess was once human, why do you all hate us so much."
"One thing you should know Crystal," she gets up and stands beside me, leaning gently on the railing, "is that no one truly knows history. The minds of people are very receptive and they will accept and continue whatever legacy is left for them by their foreparents. Majority of the people in this kingdom hate humans because they believe they're supposed to, like it's an obligation and a natural occurrence."
"So what you're saying is there isn't a factual reason for hating on humans?" I ask mystified.
"What I'm saying is" she says with eyes that scream 'don't get me wrong', "that the hate for humans is part and parcel of the people in this kingdom. To them, hating humans is the right thing to do and you guys haven't proven us wrong in any way."
I'm suddenly reminded of the time Adrian and Sean had a duel at the meeting after Adrian mentioned his mother. He also said something about everyone believing her and silent but he wouldn't keep silent anymore. What did Sean's mother do? Does it have to do with humans too?
"Zara?" I say and she looks at me with a cocked eyebrow, "has there been any human here before?".
"I can't tell you that," she answers bluntly, "but you're definitely not the first human we've seen. We should head out now." With that, she exits the balcony and goes inside the room while I pick up my book and follow after taking one last look at the large yet homely city. Who are the other humans?.
The elevator ride is quiet and long and keeps me pondering, more questions running through my mind and I decide to ask one last pressing question.
"You never included yourself Zara," I break the silence referring to the time she explained the people's hate for humans and completely excluded herself, "why?"
"My mind isn't so receptive." She says and right on cue, the elevator stops and the door opens as we walk as we walk towards Jana who's head is buried into a book.
"We're leaving." Zara says, gaining Jana's attention.
"Hm, I see." She responds and looks at me, "I'll see you around."
"Yeah." I say already nervous at the thought of passing through those streets. They're probably prepared with ammunitions and have gathered around waiting for me. I feel Zara touch my shoulder and before I can even look at her, I find myself in front of my room.
She didn't let us pass through the kingdom any more, is it out of care or she's just really tired? Oh well, whatever reason it is, I'm glad I'm back here.
"Thanks Zara." I say sincerely and she bows slightly and starts to walk away.
"Are we meeting again?" I ask and she stops walking but doesn't turn around.
"You're the queen Crystal," she says, "you call the shots." Disappearing again, I'm left alone with a small smile on my lips as I go into the room.
Releasing a sigh of relief at the sense of security this room gives me, I remove my jacket and shoe, discarding them on the couch then keep the book carefully on the bedside table. Left in my panty and tank top, I plop down on the bed happy for all the information I gathered today.
"You seem happy." Sean's voice so close to me on the bed startles me and I give a light scream earning a laughter from him.
"Don't do that!" I hit his arm and chuckle, not being able to resist his contagious laughter and I'm just really happy. I can't really make out his face in this poorly lighted room but I'm sure he's smiling now.
"I could make you scream some other way you know." He says and pulls me into his body so I'm laying with my back and bum on him while his hand is wrapped around me. It's reminds me of Dylan but not in a frightening way this time, in a satisfying way, giving me a feeling of home.
"Yeah," I chuckle, "if you hold me over a ten story building I'm sure I'd scream my lungs out."
"Right," he chuckles, "you seem happy tonight."
"I am."
"Do I have Zara to thank for that?" He asks and I chuckle.
"Yeah."
"So you like her?"
"She's not friendly."
"As expected." He says and chuckles.
"She puts up this hard front and acts like she's holding a 'don't disturb' sign up on her head." I pause to giggle and he does too, "but at the least, you can tell she has a great heart."
"I'm glad you had a great day." He says and I smile widely even if he can't see it. Excluding the angry mob, I had the best day I've had in like ages.
"How was the meeting?" I ask and he sighs.
"Let's not ruin this happy moment."
My heart races a little as I remember the ant and spider scenario Zara gave. I just hope it's nothing too bad. I shake my head subtly to rid myself of these thoughts and think happy ones. It's been long I felt this relaxed and I won't let it go so quickly.
"Your ass is rubbing against my-"
"Shut up!" I cut him off loudly making him laugh hard and I jab him with my elbow laughing too, relishing this happy moment I know won't really last for as long as I want.
Thanks for reading. God bless you.
