My forehead squeezes into a frown as I take his hand and he helps me walk into the room. It's a simple ensuite with a bed comfortable for two people, a small cushion close to the wall, a dresser with a mirror, a wardrobe and on the far end of the room is a kitchen with a mini fridge and a table top gas on the counter with a cabinet placed below and above it. It's simple and homely, although it's really cheap and inferior compared to the luxury I've been engaged with lately.
"Not enough for a royal, huh?" He asks and sits on the bed.
"No, no," I say immediately, trying to smile and look comfortable, "it's beautiful and looks comfortable."
"It's even worse when you fake a smile and lie." He says sounding a little hurt and I look at him trying to act like he isn't right. I really didn't mean to belittle him or anything, he's probably going to start thinking I'm pompous or feeling self-important.
"Don't take things too seriously," he laughs and my frown deepens, "please sit down."
Skeptically, I sit on the cushion and he stands up and walks to the kitchen.
"Care for some tea?" He says as he gets there and picks up a kettle with two mugs, preparing tea for two even before I respond.
"Yes, thanks." I say smiling and he smiles too with his hand on the handle of the already whistling kettle.
"Are there needles on it?" he says walking towards me with two cups in hand few minutes later and I frown in response to his question.
"On what?" I ask and he hands me a cup of tea, "thanks."
"The chair." He says and I become even more confused.
"Huh?"
"You're sitting like there's needles on the chair." He says and takes a sip of his tea, "why are you so uncomfortable?"
"Oh," I say, now understanding what he meant by needles on the chair, "well, how do I put this? I just experienced you kill a man with little or no effort and then offer me tea afterwards, acting like nothing's happening."
"For you." He smirks, "I killed him for you, made tea for you so I'll ask again. Why are you so uncomfortable?"
"Between the both of us," I ask looking into his green eyes, trying to hide what little fear still in me although, I'm surprisingly more comfortable than I look. "Shouldn't I be the curious one?"
"Between the both of us," he says smirking even wider, "shouldn't I be the sly one?"
"What!" I ask with a little laugh and feign hurt, touching my chest with a little gasp, "I'm not sly."
"Well, you're definitely not straight," he says with that sexy smirk still on but with a twinkle in his eyes that wasn't there before showing he's finding something amusing, "or are you?"
My eyes widen immediately I get the joke and a sudden laughter erupts from me.
"You're insane to think I'm going to discuss my sexuality with you right now." I say bringing my mirth to a pause.
"I'm glad my lack of sanity brings you joy." He responds and I find myself blushing under his beautiful watching green eyes. A sudden sting of guilt strikes my heart as I remember what brought me here in the first place. I left Zara fighting against a handful of powerful looking men and I didn't see anyone around who'd take the news to Sean. It's now I realise it's even strange that everywhere was void of people in the dusk of day, when the streets are usually the busiest. What could have happened to them? Is Sean even safe? They couldn't have perpetrated into the kingdom without the help of an insider.
What's happening outside this room, in the kingdom, in the streets, to Sean! I'm so scared right now.
"What now?" I say suddenly and he sips his tea reminding me of mine in my hand, making me take a sip as well. It's really rich and well made, relaxing my nerves and calming me down. Now I can think straight.
"We wait." He responds and I frown.
"Wait?" I ask almost in a yell, "for what? Till when? Why do we have to wait?"
"What do you want us to do?" He asks calmly and I blink a couple times, thinking of what to say.
"I-i, we could go out," I stutter, sounding like a ninny before sighing and giving up on coming up with a plan, "I don't know okay. But I can't just sit around laughing to your jokes and sipping tea when my life's in danger as well as Zara's. I don't even know if Sean knows what's going on and he's going to be scared as hell right now. Heck, I don't even know you."
"I know you." He responds smiling as usual, "and that's enough for the both of us."
"What do you know about me?" I ask, trying not to get too agitated or annoyed.
"More than you think."
"How did you know we were being attacked?"
"I know a lot of things," he says and sips tea again, "I also know you want to know a lot of things."
"Then you know why these people are after me and who they are?" I ask, my curiosity reaching it's zenith and fear starting to increase. Who exactly is this guy?
"As a matter of fact I do," he says and stands up, placing his cup on the bedside table. I give him my almost empty cup and he keeps it just beside his as well then sits beside me on the couch.
"They're enemies of this kingdom," he says, "The Dragullars."
"The Dragullars." I say the word again as it rings a bell. Yes! This was the first thing Zara said to them. She knows them. "So why are they after me?"
"I just said they're enemies of this kingdom," he says like I'm supposed to know the answer already, "everyone knows that this kingdom has lots of enemies."
"Yes," I say remembering the conversation I had with Zara when there was a war, "they want our powers."
"Excellent" he smirks, "but that's not the main thing. They want the source."
"The book," I say, "hidden edges."
"You." He says smirking.
