Chapter 4
Hiccup Pov:
"How are you alive I went to the cove where you were yesterday and saw a blastmark, Blood, and your knife in the Lake." I turn around and see Astrid who I thought would be out for longer.
"What are you talking about that must have been a dream." I say trying to convince her it was nothing but I already left an explanation in the note along with a guide to the gold coins and dragons scales I left her. Though she doesn't seem convinced and as I am thinking my father luckily calls me over and I escape from the awkward conversation.
We walk over to the great hall and we talk as we eat the goodbye meal. It is mainly me and my friends and they ask. "Why are you leaving." I expected this and came up with an answer before hand. "It is because I wanted to try to survive on my own and see if I am up to par as I am in the arena." Thankfully the rest of their questions are easy but then Astrid asks. "Who is going to do the final exam then."
Everybody looks to me and since I don't want to say it I respond with something unexpected to Astrid. "My father will announce it after I leave." Thankfully they take this and I go down to the dock to leave. My father Didn't put much on deck except for a few crates that I will check out later.
I pull down the sail and set off as I say my goodbyes and tell them. "Check beneath the deck of your houses." Luckily this catches them all off guard. I leave and as soon as I am out of sight I unlock the lower deck and Toothless barges up and starts licking me. He is probably mad for being stuck down there for over an hour.
I decide to go through the barrels from my dad and find a sword, a shield, and a axe. I know I told him not to, though the sword will not be useful since I have Toothless though if we are both in trouble it will be helpful. The shield will help if I am attacked by dragons for blocking their attacks. The axe though is the most useful for when I land to make shelter and other stuff.
Luckily the day before I studied maps and a few days before I flew around with Toothless so I plan on going to an island I found and making an outpost. The outpost will help for when I need to be alone and it will be a great place to store provisions.
(Hiccup didn't know this at the time but the island was near the school he was going to.)
The island is secluded and protected on all sides by dragons. Where the base will be no-one will be able to get to it and it also has a connection to the sea so I can put the ship in there. I go around the island which is shaped weirdly. It is in a collection of islands to the south of berk.
I follow the river into the hidden cove in the island and go straight toward the waterfall. Now you may think that I am crazy for going straight at the waterfall, after all this could be the wrong one though I am pretty sure that this is the correct one, hopefully.
As we near I start to panic a little and Toothless can see that so he uses his echolocation to see if it is correct. Luckily enough it is and we go inside the underground lake and I put the ship close enough that it doesn't hit ground though it still won't go out to sea. I go and tie it to a stalagmite so it won't drift off and I make camp for the night.
When I wake up Toothless has started to fish in the lake so I go below deck and grab a backpack with some gear for the caves. After breakfast we head into the main cave that leads straight up the mountain. Most of the lower caves I will leave until later, the top one's will be where we put stuff like dining and sleeping. We reach the cave that has the giant opening showing out the mountain across the sea and the waterfall flowing past close by.
This cave is unreachable from the outside and any of the other caves are also unreachable from the cliffs they come out on. This one will be the main landing part for Dragons. It connects up to every other cave and the spiral one up the entire mountain. I haven't fully explored yet, so I decide to take one that I feel an air current from at one side. I go in and realize that it would be the perfect place for a kitchen, dining, and living room with enough space for 25 people.
My cousin Thorfinn taught me some woodworking for making furniture since that is his job. I go with Toothless and we collect some trees using the axe from my father, being careful not to disturb the dragons. We go back and start working on the Furniture of the room and other stuff in there. It does have a side cave and that is perfect for the wood storage for the fireplace nearby. I continue to work all day until it comes time to eat dinner not noticing how fast the day was going. I go back to the ship and eat before going to bed as I am seeing something weird with the terrible terrors. Well a different problem for a different day.
