"Attilius, there is someone that wants to see you."
Inside the slave cells of the colosseum, Marcus Attilius was lying down on the floor, waiting for the declaration of his next fight.
"Who is it?"
Through the bars of the cell, one of the guards handed him a letter.
"It is a royal request. You might not want to keep them waiting."
Slowly rising from the floor, he stretched his limbs a bit. The door of the cell slowly opened, and he walked out lazily.
"Here. Change into this."
The guard handed him his battle armor, but Attilius said,
"Keep it. I don't need to be heavy to meet other people."
The guard sighed and took back the armor.
"Lead the way."
-----------------------------------
"Your majesty, it is my honor to be able to host you."
Vas Spurian was the caretaker of the colosseum. He took care of the monument in the crown's stead.
"The pleasure is all mine."
Nero sat across the table with a glass of wine.
'Knock.'
There was a slight tap on the door, and Vas said,
"Come in."
Attilius entered the door and bowed down in front of them. The royal house was filled with extremely fickle people.
"Rise."
He raised his head.
"Marcus, The Prince wants to enlist your services."
Nero kept his glass on the table and said,
"You impressed me with your skills against Hilarus. I would like you to join my guard."
Vas smiled and said,
"He is willing to pay off your debts and remove your slave mark permanently. You will also be paid appropriate wages for your service."
Attilius scratched his head and said,
"I am sorry but I refuse."
He turned around to leave.
"<<Control>>Kneel."
Attilius lost control of his body.
"How dare you behave in such an insolent manner in front of the prince?"
His knees crashed on the ground.
"He offered me a job, and I refused. If that offends him, then I look forward to the prosperity of Malen."
Vas was about to use another spell, but Nero intervened. He raised his hand, commanding him to stop.
"Vas, leave us alone for a moment. I would like to have a chat with him, alone."
Vas bowed down in respect and released the spell. A few moments later, he left the room.
"Marcus, why did you refuse the offer?"
Nero picked up his glass and had a sip.
"None of your business."
"Is it because of him?"
For a second, his heart stopped.
"How do you know about him?"
Nero smiled and said,
"One of my hobbies."
He took another sip.
"Yes. It is because of him."
Nero kept the empty wine glass back on the table and took out his space bag.
"Here, I brought something for you."
He handed him a scroll.
"Open it."
A burning house. Two kids were entrapped in the fire. A boy trying to help them out, while tears flowed down his cheeks. Behind all of this, a man creating a vortex of flames, smiling as the 3 kids suffered.
"Did I get it right?"
Unknowingly, tears had started to flow from his eyes.
"Thank you."
Attilius hugged the scroll and continued to sob.
"Do you want revenge?"
He wiped off his tears and said,
"Yes."
Nero took out another paper and said,
"Your blood."
-------------------------------------------
"Julius, you keep getting it wrong."
Vincent created two identical spheres of water in his hands.
"Stop trying to mimic it. You need to concentrate when you create the first sphere."
Julius was struggling to create two identical water balls. Vincent was helping him out.
"Hmm. Still not quite there."
He examined the two spheres. One was larger.
Julius was dejected. They had been trying this for hours.
"Don't be sad."
Vincent patted his shoulder.
"Vincent, time to leave."
Mona called out to him.
"I'll see you later, keep practicing."
He ditched Julius, who was left sulk by himself.
He was excited. Today, he was going to get his weapon.
"Welcome to the Blacksmith's Shop."
Tagging behind Mona, Vincent entered the large building inside the merchant district.
"Good evening, mam. May I see your adventurer's card?"
A well-dressed receptionist looked at Mona, who took out Vincent's card and handed it over.
"A retainer representing the Kindred family. Follow me."
The receptionist guided them towards a room. It was reserved for important guests and royalty.
"Grandma sure likes to spoil you."
The walls of the room were filled with all kinds of weapons. All the weapons looked extremely expensive.
"Mam, if you would please wait a minute."
"No problem. Is someone else here?"
"Yes."
After saying that, the receptionist left.
"How long is it going to take?"
Vincent was impatient.
"A few minutes."
He sighed, but the weapons around him managed to divert his attention.
A few moments later, the receptionist appeared along with a formally dressed woman. Vincent had no idea who she was, but Mona immediately recognized her and bowed.
"Miss Octavia."
Vincent was confused, but he decided to follow along.
"Rise."
They both raised their head and said,
Octavia looked through Vincent's eyes and frowned.
'A hero?'
Vincent felt uncomfortable under her sight.
"Who are these people?"
She looked at the receptionist and asked.
"They are adventurers under the Kindred Family."
'The Kindred family...'
Her expression changed. She smiled at Vincent and said,
"Young boy, what is your name?"
"V-Vincent Hunter."
Her eyes were normal now, but Vincent couldn't help his fear.
"Do you know Miss Melida?"
He looked at Mona, who urged him to tell the truth.
"She is my Grandma."
Octavia put her hand on his head and said,
"No need to be afraid."
Vincent started to calm down.
"I'll take my leave now. Give Miss Melida my regards."
She took her hands off his head and left. Vincent was charmed by her behavior.
"Uhm. We are here to buy your weapon, remember?"
Vincent snapped out of his trance and blushed. Mona nodded her head and sighed.
-----------------------------------------------
"I didn't want this."
Vincent was angry.
"This is the only weapon that you had the money for."
While inside the weapon shop, he was drooling over the sight of so many weapons. In the end, he was only able to afford the cheapest dagger.
"I wanted a sword."
He looked at the dagger in his hand in disappointment.
"Cheer up."
She took out something from her space bag.
"James went ahead and bought you a cloth armor. It might not be flashy, but it works."
Thank you for reading this chapter.
