Chapter 2: MEMORIES GONE

The three of them came to a halt when they heard what she said.

"Fiona, do you remember what happened to you?" Doctor Kim inquired as she sat on the bed.

"I can't remember anything except my name," Fiona said with a sad expression on her face.

Dr. Kim turned to face Fiona after looking at Samuel and Mrs. Tan.

"Don't worry, your memories will return with time," she reassured her.

"Let's go to my office," Dr. Kim said, standing up and leaving the ward, leaving Fiona alone.

-------------

"Her abdomen was stabbed, resulting in internal bleeding; she has a slight stab at the right chest, suffered broken ribs, and minor bruises on her back, which we have patched up; and she did not sustain any head injuries, so I can't explain her sudden loss of memory, but I believe she'll come around with time, so where did you say you saw her?" Dr. Kim asked after explaining Fiona's condition.

"Well, I saw her on Coast Street while on my way to get some things for Grandma," Samuel explained.

"Oh no, she should stay with us until she regains her memories, right?" Grandma asked Samuel.

"Grandma, we don't know her, we've already paid the hospital bills, and she might be able to regain her memories here while recovering," Samuel replied.

"That is if she regained it; the doctor said they will discharge her tomorrow." Grandma quickly added.

"All right," Samuel said impassively.

"Well, it appears you have already made a decision; if she remembers anything tomorrow, we will call the police and look for a way to get her home; otherwise, she will remain with you," Doctor Kim explained.

Fiona assessed what she would do once she was discharged. What she needed now was a good plan, some time, and her phone, because she didn't know Eric's phone number offhand.

Her abdominal pain had subsided slightly. As the door opened, she raised her head to see the two people the doctor said saved her, entering the room.

"Thank you," she mumbled as Grandma sat on the couch near her.

Mrs. Tan approached her, held her oval-shaped face, and asked, "Are you okay now?"

Fiona nodded uncomfortably, the way the old woman held her surprised her.

"I'll get her some porridge," Samuel said as he exited the room.

"All right, be quick, okay?" Grandma said as she took her hands off Fiona's cheeks.

Samuel couldn't help but feel sorry for Fiona as he drove back to the restaurant in his truck. He was so afraid when he first saw her lying unconsciously on the road, it isn't the first time he has picked up people from the street, the last one ran away with some of their money, but this one is different, he has tried not to succumb to his emotions but still he had to help her.

Remembering how he begged her under the car for her safety! He chuckled lightly.

________

Doctor Kim entered the ward and noticed Mrs. Tan attempting to have a conversation with Fiona.

"Does she say anything?" She inquired.

"Nothing, I'm just asking her questions to see if she remembers," Grandma replied, smiling broadly at Fiona.

"So you haven't remembered anything?" Dr. Kim inquired.

"No, even when I try, I can't seem to remember," Fiona lamented.

"It's fine, as I said with time, have you eaten?" Dr. Kim reassured her as she patted her on the back, and then the door opened, and they turned to see who it was, it was Samuel, he entered inside, handed the food to Grandma, and turned to leave.

"And where do you intend to go? Grandma asked.

"I'm going to my restaurant while you stay here with Fiona," she continued smiling.

"But I have to..." Samuel wanted to complain.

"No buts, darling, don't worry, I'll take a cab, just keep an eye on her and make sure she eats," she said as she exited the room with Doctor Kim.

Fiona was already eating slowly as Samuel sat on the seat beside her bed.

"Are you having trouble eating?" he inquired as he observed her struggling to eat.

"Yes, but I'll manage," she said.

"All right," Sam replied. Then He looked at her again, some food crumbs were falling from her mouth, and Her hands were trembling uncontrollably.

"Please, let me help, don't feel uncomfortable," he said.

He got up from his seat and sat on the bed, then he collected the food and began feeding her.

"Thank you," she said with a smile after he had fed her.

"You should rest," he said as he returned to his position.

Fiona sat down and shut her eyes.

Samuel couldn't stop staring at her; he was angry at himself for thinking she was acting; if Grandma hadn't intervened, he would have left her; who would do this to her?

While she was sleeping, he gave her a close look. He couldn't help but notice how calm her face is, her brown short hair, her pale face, despite the fact, she was wounded and suffering she looks beautiful.

"Oh, I shouldn't be falling for this girl, I hardly know her," he thought as he touched his brow.

He quickly exited the room for some fresh air.

Meanwhile, Fiona was awake. "Did I survive?" She questioned herself.

Joyful tears streamed down her pale cheeks as she considered her next move. She doesn't want to get in trouble with the people who have helped her, but she needed them as a cover-up for the time being.

With her eyes still closed, she questioned whether it was the right decision to conceal her identity and lie about her memories, but if these people discovered who she was, There will be problems with her plans and time is not what she has now till she has accomplished her mission, She tried to sleep because her head was aching.

______________

As Doctor Kim entered her room the next day, Mrs. Tan was already sitting near Fiona, who had finished eating.

After dressing her wounds and treating her.

"Did you recall anything?" She inquired as she placed the bandage on the tray and handed it to the standing nurse.

"I'm afraid, No," Fiona answered sighing.

"Fiona dear, you will stay with us now until you get your memories back, I will call Sam right away," Mrs. Tan said, looking at Doctor Kim.

Fiona felt relieved. "At least I didn't have to ask, it's working," she reasoned.

Samuel arrived and took them home, As they entered the house, he led her to a room.

"If there is anything I can do for you..." "My phone! I had a phone right?" Fiona interrupted.

"I didn't see any on you when I saw you, but I will get one for you, don't worry" Saying this, he left the room.

Fiona looked around the small room, walked to her bed, and lay down for a while.

"Ahh, I didn't even ask for clothes or soap or anything," She muttered to herself.

Standing up, she opened the door meanwhile, Samuel was about to knock on her door, holding some clothes, he did not notice that she had opened the door, so they bumped into each other causing them to fall to the ground.

For seconds, they stared at each other, unable to utter a word.

Fiona found her voice " Are those mine?" She asked pointing at the clothes that were on the ground as well.

"Yeah, I thought you would have your bath later on so I brought a towel and pajamas" He gave her the clothes as they stood up.

"Oh thank you" She bowed.

"Alright, There is soap and shampoo in the bathroom, I believe you know that already, When you are done, come to dining for lunch," Samuel said.

Fiona nodded and he left the room.

----------------------------------------------------

"How is she now, have you given her the towel and pajamas?" Grandma asked as she prepared something in the kitchen.

"Yes Grandma I have, she is okay, Grandma shouldn't we contact the police so they can help her investigate what happened to her?"

" I thought so too, but we should discuss it with the poor girl while eating"

"Yeah, I guess," Samuel said and went to clear the table.

While they sat down in the dining, waiting for their new visitor to come to join them.

"I will go check on her" Grandma stood up.

"Let me do that," Samuel offered.

"Just keep me a sec" He continued as he stood up.

Samuel knocked on the door, "Come in" he heard her saying, He thought at first to tell her to come to the dining room if she was done dressing, but something propelled him and he came in, she was in her pajamas already,

His nostril ushered her scent, it was musky, fresh, and petrichor!

"Hey, So?" Fiona said jolting him from his thoughts.

"So?" he asked back raising his eyebrows.

"I was asking if we could keep the police out of it?"

"Come, let's go and eat," He said instead of answering her question.

Fiona followed him out of the room, She needed to keep her calm now, but she knew if the police were involved, her plans will somehow be ruined.
