100% HER SECOND CHANCE ALPHA / Chapter 10: TEN

Chapter 10: TEN

Rylee crashed into the soft bed when they got back. A certain part of her mind thought this was a joke or a dream but feeling that bed again assured her that it was all real.

"What would you like to do?" Kai asked as he sat down beside her sprawled frame.

She thought for a few seconds. "I'm not sure yet."

They stared at each other for a while. Rylee sat up abruptly.

"What is it?" he asked worriedly.

"The kitchen. I haven't been there since yesterday."

'Is something wrong with you?' Ava asked, to be sure everything was still in place in her head.

"You don't have to be there. You're under my care now," Kai said as he put a reassuring hand on her shoulder.

"But nobody knows that. I at least have to report there and officially tell them that I'm done." She jumped off the bed and wore her shoes. Kai was still dumbfounded.

Rylee turned to him. "Look, I understand what might be going through your mind right now. I don't enjoy being a servant nor do I want to go back to that life but for as long as I'm not working, I need to let someone know," she explained.

He could vaguely understand where she was going. 'That's quite responsible of her, though we know that she does the right thing. That's true Alpha's blood,' Adrian commented.

"I understand. But I don't want you to go alone. May I go with you?"

Rylee smiled brightly. "Of course."

~~~
There was a commotion as they got nearer the kitchen and all the servants they met on their way there had their eyes on Rylee.
"Where is that girl?!"
Luna Sophia reared her angry face just as they got to the entrance. "How dare you?! Where have you been? This place has been utterly destroyed!"
Alpha Kai could see his Beta was near. For once, he was grateful that the young man never ceased to tag along. He motioned to him to come closer as the luna continued to yell.
"Take her back to my chambers. She'll be safe there. Don't leave the room until I'm back."
Beta Christian nodded, took Rylee's hand, and left hurriedly while she looked back, frantically trying to see what the problem was. At this point, Luna Sophia was yelling blindly at anyone who came her way.
Alpha Kai sidestepped her and went into the kitchen to see what happened for himself. The once glamorously spaced kitchen was a disaster. The walls were covered in soot, there was still some smoke — which made him hold his nose — and it seemed like the utensils were all over the place.
There were four cooks in there trying to put the place in order but there was no doubt that they were failing miserably.
"But where is Rylee? She should be here. The queen has gone through the roof already," one of them said.
"Admit it. You want Rylee here because she would have known what to do," another replied.
"No. I'm just saying that she's the only reason the luna is telling at this point. She has already yelled about her ruined kitchen."
Alpha Kai saw a little fire in a corner. It hadn't started raging yet and it seemed like no one had seen it yet. He took the spare extinguisher and put it out. He then called one of the workers and asked what happened.
"There was a fire while we were cooking. We are usually five. Four do the cooking while one of us checks on the food to make sure that it isn't burning. But she wasn't here today and we didn't really notice until the food started to burn."
He thanked her and left the scene before Luna Sophia would spot him as well.
He met Ashford's father on his way to meet up with Christian and Rylee.
"I see you noticed what happened," King Aiden said. "Quite funny that such a nice place would burn so bad."
"Indeed, I have," Alpha Kai replied coldly. "Such a tragedy."
He made to sidestep the old man but Ash's father was fast to block him. "That serving girl. Why wasn't she discharging get duties today? Why isn't she there helping them now?"
"She is not a serving girl anymore," Alpha Kai said and made to leave for the second time.
Ash's father blocked him again. "And who are you to decide that? I've told you before, Kai. You're a good boy. Don't stain your hands in matters that do not concern you. Now, why don't you hand the girl over and all of this can die down like it never happened."
Alpha Kai stared at him with disgust. How he had been strong allies with this man — and had carried that alliance on with his son — was a mystery to him.
"Well, King Aiden, I know this is Ash's pack and I do not call the shots here but you also can't force me into anything. But that also means that you can't force my luna to do anything."
"I'm sorry, what?" Ash's father chuckled. What was this young man talking about?
"You heard me. Rylee is my future luna and no one in or outside this pack can make her do any household chores against her will."
"Kai, I'm telling you this for the last time. Hand the girl over."
By now, a small crowd had begun to form. The two men were talking at the top of their voices and everyone wanted to know what was going on. Cassandra was among those in the crowd. She was surprised to see Alpha Kai arguing with her father.
"I won't hand her over. I've respected you enough. I'm not handing her over like some object. Rylee is my future luna and there is nothing you can do about it. And if you try to bend her will or come after her, you'll get a bad side of me, and I will make you pay for everything you've done to her!"
