Chapter 11: Chapter 9

They played Guitar Hero for almost three solid hours.

As other girls filtered in and out, going on to their rooms or grabbing some snacks, some giggled at the girls playing, while others ignored them. Some even openly made fun of the two for being “childish”. Ophelia and Jayde didn’t care though. As they had talked and played, they had quickly formed a close bond, pretty much instantly being best friends.

After finishing ‘Hotel California’ for the second time, Jayde flopped limply onto the couch. Her hands hurt from playing so much! She laughed and shook her head when Ophelia tried to convince her to play ‘just one more song’.

“Nope, nope, nope! You beat me, fair and square,” Jayde high-fived Ophelia. “But, we will be dueling again and then I’ll beat you for once! I will be victorious!”

Jayde threw her hands up as she yelled ‘victorious’, sending herself and Ophelia into a fit of laughter.

“You so wish,” Ophelia giggled, playfully punching Jayde’s arm before she plopped down next to her on the couch. “Ugh, I am so hungry. I could totally eat a bajillion bags of chips right about now.”

With her stomach rumbling at the thought of food, Jayde sighed and nodded. The school offered food in the cafeteria every meal, so maybe they should go grab something. Then the unasked for thought of her unmade bed and clothes still sitting in bags made her groan. She pulled her phone out of her back jean pocket to look at the time and jumped to her feet with a gasp. She didn’t realize so much time had passed! It was already past five o’clock. She’d end up all night if she didn’t go do things now. “Shoot! Phel, I gotta go. I’ll text you later, okay?”

Jayde barely waited for Ophelia to agree before she was fast-walking down the hallway. However, as Ophelia started doing her hundredth solo play on Guitar Hero, Jayde was trying to remember which way she needed to go to get to her room. She sucked in a breath, trying to keep calm as she came upon the first hallway split. Being as directionally challenged as she was sucked especially when she couldn’t even remember the simplest directions.

She decided to turn right at the first split and stopped dead in her tracks. A white-haired, slightly familiar boy had his arms locked around a skinny, blonde girl, making out with the girl. The girl had the guy’s back to the wall while she pushed her hands up his shirt. She couldn’t place how she knew them, but the oddest thing for her was the deep-gut anger that flared to life seeing them together.

Shaking her head roughly, trying to stop having weird thoughts and feelings about the other students, then started to back away as quietly as she could. However, with how bad her luck had been, the guy suddenly broke the lip lock to stare at Jayde. Her breath caught and she felt the blood rush to her cheeks in a wave of embarrassment as she met the green eyes.

Now knowing where she knew them from made Jayde want to escape faster. His eyes were showing his amusement as she continued to backpedal into the other hallway in her effort to escape. The blonde realized then that he wouldn’t be continuing the make out session and turned with a frown. Once she saw Jayde, she scowled and flicked her hand dismissively at her. “Oh, it’s you. Go away, new girl.” Blondie turned back to the jock, running her hands up his chest.

Unwanted feelings rushed through Jayde as she watched the interaction, a growl even starting to build in her throat. A weird tingle in her gums also grew as her anger grew, confusing and scaring her. She forced herself to keep the growl down, realizing her feet had stopped moving, and gritted her teeth.

“I think you’re going to be late for that nail appointment you mentioned, Alodie. You should go..”

Jock-boy didn’t bother looking down at the blonde, Alodie, keeping his attention on her. Honestly, it was one of the reasons why she didn’t keep walking. Alodie huffed, glaring between him and Jayde as she pushed away. “Whatever, Ryuu.”

Ryuu. How could someone’s name be so beautiful even when a blonde bimbo was sneering it?

There was an immense satisfaction in watching Alodie walk away though, even as Jayde became more aware of the seething ball of anger in her stomach. She turned and walked away, brows drawn in as she thought about why she was feeling the way she did. Having feelings of possessiveness and anger over seeing someone she didn’t even know kiss another girl was weird. And awful. It made Jayde want to pull out all the blonde strands in Alodie’s head.

As she walked away from him, going back to the recreational room, her heart started to pound and felt like it got worse the farther away she was from him. Like there was some invisible rope tied around her body that made it want to be around him. Why the heck was this happening to her?! Nothing made sense!

The day seemed to just get worse and worse for Jayde as it went. For one, she was totally lost again because now she wasn’t sure if she was even walking to the rec room with how long it felt like she’d already been walking. For two, she apparently had a crush on a guy who had a girlfriend and liked to knock people over willy-nilly.

And she was still lost!

“Need help?”

Squeaking in alarm, Jayde spun around to glare at Ryuu. The dark green eyes of his were silently laughing, but he also seemed to be genuine about wanting to help her. Taking a deep breath and chewing on the inside of her cheek, Jayde thought about the offer for a minute. She eventually nodded. “Yeah. I can’t seem to find my room.”

He smiled then stepped forward, his hand wrapping firmly yet gently around her wrist, and he started walking back towards where she’d found him. As he tugged her along, she stumbled over her feet and into his back, gasping as she lost her balance. He didn’t stop to make sure she was okay, just continued on, pulling her along with him. As she quickly tried to catch up with the quick, larger steps he took, her frustration built.

“Uh, excuse me! Could you kindly stop dragging me down the hallway like a caveman?” She tried to use a nice voice to ask, forcing down the anger that wanted to scream at him. “I can follow you without being manhandled.”

Ryuu didn’t answer, and gave no inclination that he had even heard her except the slightest tightening of his hand around her wrist. Jayde’s anger snapped a little as she growled, scowling at his back as she tried to tug her wrist free of his grip. She was regretting accepting his offer of help. He glanced back at her over his shoulder, the cold look he gave her making her stop trying to free herself. She stuck her tongue out at him, and he turned back forward with a small chuckle. Being manhandled wasn’t her forte and she honestly would love to just smack him silly. But when she went to actually smack the back of his head, something stopped her.

Jayde didn’t understand it, didn’t want to be feeling it, but there was an irresistible pull to Ryuu. It got stronger the longer they were together too.

What in the world was going on?
