Chapter 18: Chapter 16

The thought came and went quickly, sparking to life one second and gone the next, still making Jayde feel flustered.

Pheli grabbed her hand, pulling her to her feet. “Oh, girl, you are so ready. Plus, I won’t let anything bad happen to you. You’re a freaking senior, Jay, so you obviously went to another high school that also had parties. Didn’t you go to them?”

She shrugged, walked towards her dresser as she thought back. “I went to a couple, but they honestly were the lame parties. I didn’t stay longer than a couple drinks and some dancing. I didn’t get tipsy or drunk at them, something that happens to everyone who goes to the parties here.”

Looking through the clothes she brought, Jayde was glad she had thought of going to a party or having the clothes to dress up when she wanted to look and feel good. She’d even grabbed a dress in the rush of packing and throwing things together. Finally finding the skin-tight, blood-red skinny jeans she’d been looking for, Jayde held them up triumphantly as she turned to Ophelia. However, Phel was looking down at her phone with a frown, looking way too sad.

“What’s wrong Phel?”

The sigh that left her friend’s lips sounded sad too, even as she shook her head and smiled. “You should go to a real party your senior year. Oh my gosh Jay! YES! Those jeans will look perfect with the top I brought!”

Narrowing her eyes at Ophelia, Jayde was sure that her friend wanted to pretend like she hadn’t been sad. Usually she would go with the flow, but Phel literally never got sad if she could help it. But Jayde didn’t get the chance to say anything as Ophelia bounced around the room, grabbing the shirt out of her bag that had been dropped by the door when she’d come in. She held up, smiling, and Jayde decided she’d let it be for the night.

After the exciting showing of the top, they got ready. Ophelia told her about the party, where it was, who was hosting and setting it up. Jayde wasn’t the least bit surprised when Pheli said the football team had planned it and were setting everything up in a clearing pretty far into the woods right at that moment. There was going to be a bonfire, lots of alcoholic drinks, maybe some snacks, and loud music for dancing. It would be awesome if they got through the night without being caught!

Of course, all of that would only be possible if the team had set up everything on time and hadn’t procrastinated. Apparently they were likely to do that, according to Ophelia.

Jayde grinned at her friend’s rambling, brushing through her hair once more before she stepped in front of the full-length mirror. The top Pheli was lending her really did look amazing paired with the red jeans. It was a deep black, contrasting the blood red. She liked that it was a tank top, thicker strapped, with a low cut in the front that showcased how amazing her cleavage was. Sequins even shimmered in the light around the neckline of the shirt, more likely to bring attention to the things most teenage guys loved to look at. The black flats Jayde had decided to wear added to the look, though maybe made her look a little bit like an Oreo with red stuffing. Maybe that would make her seem like a tasty snack?

Giggling at the thought, she quickly did her makeup. She went a little bolder than what she normally would, making her eyeliner a bit thicker with a nice wing. She finished the look with a couple swipes of mascara and a rainbow highlighter along her cheekbones.

She looked over at Ophelia and almost dropped her jaw. The girl was something intense to look at! She was wearing a mid thigh black leather skirt with a light blue tube top that had white flowers painted on it, and her normally outrageously curly hair had been straightened. It really showed off how long her hair was, bringing attention to the curves of her body as it ended just above the curve of her butt. She had it held back out of her face with a white flower headband. The look was completed with some killer heels that were dark blue and had tiny black spikes over it. Jayde could have sworn they were five to six inches tall.

Now, Ophelia was normally five foot three, but those heels shot her up in height and made you want to stare at the tanned, muscled legs under the skirt.

They looked at each other and grinned, giving each other a high five as they laughed.

Ophelia wrapped an arm around Jayde’s and started towards the door. “Girl, we look so good! I bet we get all of the guys’ attention. They won’t be able to look away!”

Laughing, she shook her head as they went through the door. She glanced at Pheli as she locked the door. “They’ll surely only have eyes for you. That skirt is really close to not being long enough to cover you up!”

“Oh, whatever,” Pheli scoffed, tossing her hair over her shoulder. “Those jeans look like they were painted on, and if you bend over with that top on, your boobs are just gonna fall out.”

Jayde burst out laughing, immediately covering her mouth as she looked up the hallway to see if anyone was out and about. She calmed herself, biting her lip to keep back the giggles, and wrapped her arm back around Pheli’s. As they started down the hallway, turning into the main one, she whispered, “What about the dorm kraken? What if she catches us?”

Lillian Rochester, the girl's dorm mother, was a literal beast. Well, she was technically a harpy but she acted like a freaking chimera. She was overprotective, making sure that no boys were ever in a girls room after eight, and taking care to stalk the halls around midnight to catch anyone trying to sneak out. The fact that she had wings and could turn her nails into three inch claws made sure the girls were on their best behavior.

Ophelia winked at Jayde, holding a finger up to her glossy pink lips to indicate no more talking. Jayde nodded, holding her lips together tightly as they kept moving. She had to bite her lip again to hold in the nervous giggles. They moved quickly down the halls, somehow both of them silent even with Pheli’s ridiculous heels. It felt so daring and wrong that Jayde felt like she was going to hyperventilate from the suspense. It also gave her a boost of adrenaline, giving her the feeling that she was unstoppable along with the urge to laugh like a complete lunatic.

As they passed the dorm mother’s door, Jayde had to hold her breath as well as bite her lips together in order to not laugh. Pheli looked over at her with a grin, putting a finger over her lips again as Jayde’s shoulders shook with repressed laughter. They almost ran down the stairs and out the door, choking on laughter and hushing each other the whole way. Once into the relative safety of the woods, they both exploded with laughter, Jayde bending at the waist as she also sucked breath back in.
