Chapter 17: Etiquettes
Princess Xiao Chen entered the room of Wen Ting Hua.
"Are you ready?"
Wen Ting Hua had worn a long purple rob. Some servants around him were helping him get dressed. He turned around a little as he nodded his head once with respect.
Princess Xiao Chen gave him a motherly smile as she went and held the sword from the servants. Holding it with both hands, she pushed it in front of Wen Ting Hua.
"I hope you will return soon and won't disappoint the emperor."
"I won't." Grabbing the sword from her aunt's hands he gave her a reassuring look before he turned around towards her.
"I will be setting out now."
"Go, my child! My blessings will always be with you."
Giving her a polite smile he dragged himself out of the room.
After he had gone out, Princess Xiao Chen looked back at her maid and ordered, "I want you to keep an eye on each and every maid here and if you see any abnormal behaviour shown by anyone. Notify me at once."
"Yes!" She bowed down her head.
Moving back forward Xiao Chen left from there.
On the other hand Chao Xing was still sitting in that class, Guo Ling was now teaching them how to greet the royal members of the palace.
"Get up! All of you get up!" Clapping his hands making them all stand up, he ordered.
"Hurry! Hurry! We don't have all day."
As soon as all the girls stood up beside their tables Guo Ling analyzed all of them at once.
"Good! Now first I will teach you how to greet the prince. As the prince is the most respectable after our emperor and this palace is under him so we have to be more vigilant about his respect and greetings."
Chao Xing had watched many dramas in her Era. She knew how serious the past people were about respecting the royals.
"So first we will learn how to greet the prince. Everyone, bow down."
Chao Xing's eyes went wide hearing that, 'What?'
'Why do we have to bow? Is he a God or something?'
She rolled her eyes not wanting to agree that she stayed still in her place while all the other girls put their knees on the floor and bowed down as told by Guo Ling.
"What are you waiting for, girl?" Guo Ling narrowed his eyes at Chao Xing.
Looking around she realised she was the only one standing.
'Ah. What is this nonsense?'
'Whatever! Let's just agree with him for now. I can't afford to mess with them.'
With this she put her knees on the ground and bowed down on the floor like other girls.
"Good! Now keep both your hands right on your eyebrows!" Guo Ling started to move around in the room analysing all the girls.
"Good! Now stand up. We will do practice."
Hurriedly all the girls stood up without wasting a minute.
"His highness is here!" Guo Ling said out loud.
All the girls after hearing that pulled their arms forwards, one hand over another and bowed down saying, "Greetings your highness."
Guo Ling again started to analyse all the girls but as soon as he reached near Lin Qin he hit the ground hard.
"Can't you understand?"
Hurriedly Lin Qin moved up and looked at Guo Ling with a tilted face like she didn't understand him.
"Where are your eyebrows?"
She narrowed her eyes not knowing why he was asking that from her out of nowhere. Touching her eyebrows with her hands she showed him where they were.
"Bow down properly now."
Hurriedly she bowed down again and again and didn't put her hands above her head on the ground.
Guo Ling, annoyed by her, again hit the ground with his stick.
"Put your forehead right on the eyes brows. What language do you understand?"
Now only Lin Qin put her head properly on her eyebrows and bowed down properly.
Guo Ling turned back around and as he moved towards the front he said out loud, "His highness gave you the grant to rise!"
"Thank you, Your highness!"
All the girls said out with one voice and loudly as they stood up still with their hands in front of them and eyes down.
'What happened to Lin Qin? Where is her mind today? Did something happen to her?' Chao Xing was worried about Lin Qin. Her behaviour was abnormally odd today.
After standing up they had their neck and back bend down and stood with respect.
"A girl should be like a flower, who does all the things gracefully. Staying here you have to be polite and graceful."
Guo Ling continued explaining, "In this palace even though you are a servant you can still meet his majesty any time. And if his majesty likes you then you might be able to climb the stairs to paradise but one mistake from you might lead you to be beheaded."
"Is he telling us ways to seduce the prince?" Chao Xing was disgusted.
Nor did she have any interest in seducing a prince and climbing up any stairs. All this lesson seemed too boring for her and annoying to her.
She wasn't from that Era nor will she ever settle there. She had to get back to her own home.
Wanting to get away from there as soon as possible Chao Xing looked back at the door only to earn a yell from Guo Ling.
"Be attentive girl!"
Immediately Chao Xing sat straight and got attentive. She wasn't even listening to Guo Ling anymore. Her eyes were getting heavy, "Ahhh I want to sleep. Why do these lectures never leave me? In my Era and now here too."
Her eyes were just about to get closed when suddenly she heard Guo Ling say, "Well this is it for today. You girls can go."
A smile crept on her face and she hurriedly stood up. She was just about to go from there when suddenly she saw.....
