Hazel set up a doctor's appointment in town the following morning. She still hadn't told anyone about the results of her pregnancy tests.
The emptiness she had felt was replaced by a solid determination. Nobody would stop her from being happy and having a happy family. Not one person in the world could do that now that she had made up her mind.
Doctor Schumacher smiled at her after coming back with the blood test results. "You're definitely pregnant, Mrs. Sheffield. Congratulations! You're about two and a half months along. You said you took the pregnancy tests yesterday, correct?"
"…I have an inconsistent period so I didn't notice anything until yesterday," she said sheepishly.
He shrugged. "It happens all the time; nothing to worry about. But you will need to start taking prenatal vitamins right away. Are you on any other medications?"
Hazel shook her head and he continued.
